Great video, and very accurate explanation. I too have a lifetime of retail, and even a bit of wholesale and distro. I'm also a longtime discount shopper so my wallet basically stays in that gray zone lol. Incidentally now I work in complex commercial litigation as a para, so you could say I never truly escaped. You touched on something I was curious about - one of my guilty pleasures are these seemingly discounted yet bountiful Abercrombie fragrances. I wondered if they kept making them, but only selling wholesale since that's all they really would care about for those anyway. Perhaps they just have a large supply, or the distros do.
@@Varanis_Ridari here’s some great video ideas: 1) Future of fragrance 2025+ 2) How a fragrance is made from conception to execution 3) Why are clones close but never the same even with GC 4) Is perfume collecting materialism? 5) Natural perfumes? 6) How to collect responsibly
I've done some of these. 5) Is under the title of a Fragheads roadmap. 1) has several videos. 2) sounds fun. 3) is subjective so I won't touch that. 4) is a big brain kinda thing that might turn some people off, so maybe
I guess this explains why influencers, will include, on their lists a designer fragrance that is 15-20 years old. It can be picked up for $20-$30. The discounters have a few thousand bottles they would like to move.
The Gray market here in the UK on eBay is mainly the same few powersellers with unboxed testers, some without lids. Typically they are around £20 per bottle and include all the unwanted Calvin Klein flankers etc. A bit of a risk as some I’ve bought have “turned” and have been stored in high heat or too cold and are unwearable
Very informative. Knew a lot of it, but put more in focus. Very good point on the wholesale price being all the perfumer cares about. BTW, Lilac Vegetal is inbound. I will curse you for the fist five minutes I splash it on....
About a year ago the rep at local mall perfume place tried to scare me with horror stories about grey market products in order to secure my business. The tactic was not effective. 😂
Excellent video! Without the gray market, I wouldn’t more than half my fragrances.
Same, my friend.
Out of all the types of videos you make, these are my favourite 👏
Sounds like I need more suggestions then!
Great video, been struggling looking for information on how things work with the grey market but you explained it very clear. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Cheers D, great information ℹ️ much appreciated. 👍🙏
You're welcome!

Probably making bulk of margin via gray, and the few suckers who buy retail.
Thank you 🎉
You're welcome!

Gray market for the win. Paying more than $60 to smell good is a CRIME.
Depending

Bingo
@@Varanis_RidariSo at a guess these influencers get a couple of $k sweetener from someone to hype up some mediocre crap
Or commissioned shop links and free product (that they usually flip).

Same it seems sorta hollowed out up there. I imagine trade difficulty post-Brexit has a part to play

You'll love/hate it, I promise.
@@Varanis_Ridari I know. I've owned it before. After the initial UGH, the lilac dry down is kind of fun in an antique-ish way
I can see it
