Though Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene was from the mid 70s, I always remember seeing this green bottle for the longest time on the shop shelves. When I finally able to buy one in late 80s, the juice didn't disappoint. This is one of my memorable fragrances from the 80s along with Fahrenheit and Drakkar Noir.
My memory of Fahrenheit goes to about 1991 and I would wear it to the ballet with my wife. We had season tix to the PAC NW ballet in Seattle. It was a race from work to the Bainbridge ferry, off to the McDonald’s drive thru by the Seattle center and into the theater. We had to change on the ferry into dress clothes and I always wore Fahrenheit. That scent smells like a rainy Seattle evening on a Thursday night while watching a show.
What a trip back to the past! My father wore many of those perfumes, and I had a boyfriend who used to wear Obsession. I still have a bottle of Obsession for woman. My first perfume (and the one that started my passion for perfumes!) was Armani from 1981, I also wore Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, The first Poison (Dior 1985), but my signature scent for very long time was Fendi (1985). Fendi was a masterpiece and I'm still upset that they discontinued it. If I could travel back to the 80's, I would go back and stay there. Thanks for the fun review and more of these please.
Wow awesmoe idea for new videos. My father, God rest his soul, had the Ysl after shave called „Jazz“. It was milky lotion of fougère heaven. This and the classic armani as a clear after shave he used. Back then most men shaved every morning. Those aftershaves in the 80s and 90s were so strong and lasted for hours. Looking forward to the next episodes.
My father did not wear men's colognes when I was growing up, so I only know of Old Spice because he was a friend of a member of the Stanley family who owned that brand. My dad was a perfumer and worked with fragrances all week long, so he always smelled good from that exposure. Now, I would like to revisit some of these and see if they work for women too. Good series, I am sure I will learn a lot.
This is my era for fragrances!! Interestingly, although the Aramis collection disappeared, Tuscany has made a reappearance, in the UK at least. It’s quite affordable too. 👍🏻
I like this content; sure brings back some great memories. Drakkar, Obsession, Fahrenheit, Zino (which is still one of my favorites today... timeless!) And fortunately they are still available. My dad also used Versace l'homme back then. I can still remember the early mornings in our house before he left for work. The scent lingering through the house before breakfast (and then started to combine with the smell of coffee brewing) .. lovely!! I remember I got a bottle of Benetton Colors for Men at one Christmas (even though I was just 11) from my uncle. I can't remember exactly how it smelled, because he wore Tsar...and if I think of Benetton, I think of Tsar and of it's smell. Such a unique fragrance. I'll be looking forward to the next part (does it have Xerjus in it? I bought that fragrance last year and it's a "beast". If it's still strong now, I can imagine how it must have been back then....
Love it 80s!!Dating myself but two Heartbreaker types I knew wore obsession and Fahrenheit in very late 80s/early 90s. Fahrenheit was the most intoxicating thing I ever smelled. Have not dared to sample since ❤
I snagged a 1oz bottle of vintage Furyo a while back and it’s one of my favorite vintage fragrances. The musc/animalics are unmatched and is so alluring.
♥ the 80s. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I remember walking passed the "business building" on my way to the "art building" during college and the business building smelled like a fragrance factory. All of these over sprayed dudes. 😂 The smell made its way all the way outside. 🤣 That was the 80s.
Hi Sebastian, this series was so great it put me on the hunt for JACQUES BOGART FURYO , I found the last 4ML from the Fragrance Decant Boutique. WOW this stuff is amazing, so typical of 80's fragrances, the anamalics are so strong but the Amber & Patchouli shine through. It still can be found but the markup is a bit crazy. Can't believe this sold for like $18.00 bucks for 100ML. Cheers😎
Great series Sebastian, it sure brings back memories. I found my Dad's splash bottle of Stetson (it also came in a spray version) as I ha 3/4 of a bottle. Sadly I couldn't find my Lapidus😢. I have a version of Obsession it has to be shook as its like a talc. Cheers Brutha😎
I have both a vintage (tiny) splash and a current full bottle of the Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui -- you opened with an excellent one! I think I'll have to pick up that Lauder. Thanks for doing this series!
Obsession was one of my first fragrances. I got it as a gift when I was a young teen and I honestly hated it for a long time. I kept the bottle, though, and years later I grew to love it. So thankful to still have that old bottle. Now I wish I could find an old bottle of Joop Homme. I love how crazy that scent is, but the new versions are so weak.
Hi Seb! We are definitely from the same generation of fragrance discovery! My favorite which ALWAYS gets compliments is KRIZIA. Its powerful winter appropriate scent has never been replicated. Unfortunately its gone disco but I find them often on Ebay.
This brings back memories. Oscar De La Renta pour Lui was my first fragrance. I remember wearing many of these back in the 80's. I also wore Alfred Sung regularly.
I completely agree with everything you said about oscar pour lui, amazing fragrance, amazing bottle, and amazing reformulation (i have both). Very few reformulations were done that well...the aramis gentlemans collection reformulations come to mind, the reform devin, new west, ect.
Awesome! Thank you. I have quite a few of the oldies. My collection is around 1500ish. I need a 12-step program to stop. I have quite a few discontinued as well.
Duc du Vervins L'Extreme, Lauder, Lagerfeld are all excellent. Pavarotti (not Luciano) came in the early 90s but is the Emperor of these masculine scents and Dior Jules is the Prince.
Thanks for the video!! Drakar Noir was the official scent of my high school in 1989! I had to go against the grain w/ Passion (Liz Taylor), Colours (Benetton) & Liz Claiborne for Men.
Oh yeah, those Aramis scents kept bei g powerhouses. My dad worn a lot Havana. The blue one is great too and the anise dominant smelks great too. As well the original Aramis. I like that old leather they used these days I tool a look again: New West was the blue Aramis Obsession… yeah… that one was awesome too For some reason honey ruins it for me in a lot of oldschoool frags.
I have the entire series thankfully in those more recent bottles that Armen put out I believe it was the early 2010s. I’m glad I have them but sad they are gone.
Love Drakkar Noir, Obsession and Fahrenheit, they have a special place in my collection. I have an '89 Fahrenheit what a difference with the actual one. Never liked Azzaro or Aramis. Many from the list I tried but they were not for me, also never liked Creeds just Aventus. Jacomo de Jacomo was one of my favorites from the 80's also Lagerfeld Classic, was from 78 but it's close enough to the 80's 😁Great list, thank you Sebastian!!!
I bought my Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui around 2000; worn it ever since and love it. I backed into Stetson again last year. Aramis JHL I WORE TO DEATH in the 80's.
Been wearing Lauder For Men since the day I discovered it. There were times where I had to go into Macys and ask the Lauder counter to order it for me, but I always have a substantial bottle in the collection.
Even if its from the 70th that Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur was one the first classic ones that really clicked for me. That one us so inexpensive Noweödays ans smells amazing for me
Just picked up Lauder for Men by Estee Lauder. What a classic scent. It actually puts yourself back in '85. Suits, wall street, success! Love it. Jasmine Musk by Tom Ford smells highly similar for those who haven't smelled before. Great use of florals in this.
I just picked up the Oscar de la Renta for under £18 and i cannot believe how good it is, and given the price it is unbelievable! I think it still stands up today, it reminds me of Carthusia Numero Uno, which has been my signature scent for years now. I'm going to be wearing it proudly all winter.
Fahrenheit and kouros will forever been in my collection and I’m 35 years old . Leaps and bounds better than most fragrances released in that time period and tbh even todays releases 🤷🏻♂️back when fragrances seemed to be well thought and and better constructed
Rocked that Drakkar back in middle school lol…some vids about all of these reformulations would be interesting. The reasons why and how they have changed etc etc
I'm an avid fugere fanatic and the 80s, the 90s and early 2000s had the best perfumes ever. The last great fugere of these great perfumes is Narciso Rodriguez for him 2007. The last of the greats in my opinion. Long before the hugely-advertised boring perfumes like Dior Sausage dominated our lives. Yes.. I said it. 😂
I agree 200% that these fragrances at that time were made of more interesting, unique and rich ingredients which is probably why they left very vivid memories in our minds.....Nowadays they all have the same off the shelf accords created by Giv, Simrise, Firmnich etc Maybe YSL Pour Homme will be in part2? (although it was launched in 78 I think, but still...)

I wore Polo Green in the 80s for high school as did most of the guys ...the whole school would smell of it. I still think it's one of the best ever although most people probably wouldn't appreciate smelling it these days.
Estée Lauder’s Metropolis is an underrated but phenomenal scent from the 80s. Discontinued, but Lauder used to sell discontinued items in special sales. Same bottle design as the one featured in the video, but wider.
My father always asked me to find him a perfume and I never paid him attention, he wanted one of the Atkinson that had a yellow label. I wish I had been more thoughtful, now he is gone, and I have no idea which one he wanted. I would love to know what perfume he craved😔
My father used Obsession and that's only one I can use to this day and I'm over fifty years old and this will be my one and only perfume till my last day...
Grew up in the 70s and 80s. Men seldom worn frags. Old spice or Brut seemed the prevailing ones. Those that did were a bit odd or sophisticated. I only got into frags in my late 40s.
😎😎😎 Please help me get to 300K! Please subscribe here: goo.gl/xWnYzi 😎😎😎
My husband wore Fahrenheit when he was in high school and he still wears it to this day. It’s amazing 🤩
I wore Fahrenheit in the 90's, one of the best.
Such a classic
Great picks! Besides these, my other favorites from the 80's were/are:
Dior - Jules '80
Chanel - Antaeus '81
YSL - Kouros '81
Dior - Eau Sauvage Extreme '84
Guerlain - Derby '85
Hermes - Bel Ami '86
Givenchy - Xeryus '86
YSL - Jazz '88
Gucci - Nobile '88
Van Cleef & Arpels - Tsar '89

I agree! After shaved then we’re stronger than some designer EDPs now!!
I love Fahrenheit. I remember gifting it to my brother for one of his birthdays. He loved it.

An immediate like even before watching just for the topic!
Yay.
my favorite was Halston Z14, thats all I wore !!!
That was a great late 70s fragrance. So iconic to me!!
@
I started wearing it in the early 80s so I thought thats when it was from…lol
TF's Italian Cypress is inspired by Halston Z-14!
This is my era for fragrances!! Interestingly, although the Aramis collection disappeared, Tuscany has made a reappearance, in the UK at least. It’s quite affordable too. 👍🏻
Tuscany was one of my favourites back in the 80's. Such a different scent. I remember the EdT spray to be the optimal version.
Been waiting for this so long since your last videos about 80‘s thanks Sebastian 😊
Paul Sebastian!
One of my all time favorite fragrances. I received it as a gift for Christmas 1988. I've been buying it ever since.
I wore it in the early 90. Sadly, I don’t own a Current bottle. I think I might have to order it for part three
I have it. It's a great musky, powdery, strong Old Spice like scent. But it was released in 1979.
@@JT-rx1eo true. I didn't realize that.
Obsession was and is indeed very good. I have an empty Fahrenheit bottle from my husband and sometimes I smell it and it’s still nice😊

🙏🏼
Drakkar Noir. I can smell it by just thinking about it. One of kind. Happy memories. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
OMG Sebastian, thank you for the trip back to the 80’s. You’ve hit all the fragrances that’s launched many-a-journey.
For as long as I can remember, my Dad has been wearing all things Aramis.
That’s awesome!!!
Vintage Aramis is king!
Love it 80s!!Dating myself but two Heartbreaker types I knew wore obsession and Fahrenheit in very late 80s/early 90s. Fahrenheit was the most intoxicating thing I ever smelled. Have not dared to sample since ❤
I enjoy ODLR-Pour Lui so much.. the floral leather hits me just right.
It’s so good. Event current formulation.

Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui is such a well kept classic. Reminds me of Antaeus from Chanel, but definitely is its own thing. Love the dry down.

Great video and list Sebastian, however, I feel like Bijan for men and Kouros should be on this list.
Kouros is THE best men’s fragrance of the 80s and still is today. I adore it.
Kouros and Armani pour homme for me.
Kouros will be in part 2 for sure!!
@@ThePerfumeGuy Anything that has that good funk like Musc Revaguer and Francesca's fragrances, is 5 🌟 for me.

Quorum by Antonio Puig and Tsar Van Cleef & Arpels please!!!
Salvador Dali Pour Homme , Sergio Tacchini ,Givenchy Xeryus , Moschino Pour Homme , Chanel Anteus great 80' s fragrances
