  • The ill-fated sequel to ANNIE, ANNIE 2: MISS HANNIGAN'S REVENGE played the Kennedy Center in 1989, with Dorothy Loudon returning to her Tony Award-winning role of Miss Hannigan. Yikes! I saw this at the Kennedy Center...never dreamed I'd see it again. I'm sorry to say it was as awful as you've heard. The only moment of cleverness is at 26.00 when they're hatching a plan and an enormous ship goes by behind them, making noise so you can't hear what they're saying. I felt so bad for Dorothy Loudon. But what a treat to get to see this again!

at 58.48 Dorothy Loudon starts singing " but you go on" and very nearly stops the show....every flop always has its moments...

The fact that her Miss Hannigan is finally on UA-cam, even if it is just in the first draft of the sequel, is the victory in and of itself.

Danielle Findley was Annie 2. I know Julianna Marx was her double and may have been other Annie look a like.

Very interesting to see ANNIE 2 again, after having seen one of the first previews when it played at the Kennedy Center. This version is VERY different from what I saw. They obviously reworked it quite a bit during the weeks that it played. Thanks for posting.

I can confirm that. The production script was a rainbow of changes, every day. Songs were cut and added almost daily. ALL the orphans were fired and replaced (awful to witness 😭)

What's the date of this recording? Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge changed so much from opening night at Kennedy Center to closing night at Kennedy Center. This was after the orphans were brought in. All the changes from show to show at Kennedy Center. Changes in the lyrics of songs. Then lots more changes at Goodspeed-at-Chester, and on the road in Chicago and Los_Angeles. The poor actors who had to memorize all the endless changes! Harve Presnell stayed with the show from its opening at Kennedy Center to its closing at Variety Arts Theater Off-Broadway! I still don't understand why Annie Warbucks didn't go to Broadway instead of Off-Broadway at Variety Arts Theater. So sad. 😭 All that work for years and years! Lauren Gaffney should be commended for all of her performances and changes sometimes she made to lyrics of songs that she received at intermission! Thank you to Harve Presnell Danielle Findley, and Lauren Gaffney. I am thankful we have the original cast recording of Annie Warbucks.

I may be in the minority but I love ANNIE 2, and I also love ANNIE WARBUCKS. It's fun! There are some great numbers in both versions.

I wanted to see *Annie Warbucks* on Broadway as soon as I heard it existed, but I missed it.

Oh my god! I was a PA on this show (“the Annie nanny” or kid wrangler) at the Kennedy Center. I’ve been trying to find bootleg audio (it was recorded for the cast and crew as a Christmas gift). It was brutal to see six-year-olds get fired, among many other issues. I loved the music, and the actors were professional and great, but every other aspect of the show was a mess.

I owned book about this production when I was a kid. "A Very Young Actress" about Lauren Gaffney, who was in the workshop of the show.

I can see why they wanted this to work. The success of the show on Broadway in its original run has proven difficult to repeat, and even bringing Dorothy Loudon back was not enough to solve the book problems. Then once they tried again with *Annie Warbucks,* they tried ditching Miss Hannigan and making the social worker the villain. They pulled a Maggie Task on Dorothy Loudon. They got to Broadway, but it still wasn't the same.
Columbia Pictures, the studio that made the OG movie, passed on adapting the stage sequel for the screen even though their $9 million movie rights deal included sequels because the movie solved the question of the stage sequel preemptively by making Grace Annie's mother. That was the one time Disney sided with the movie over the play by carrying that over to their version, ironically, despite using that to get on their high horse about "honoring the source material." Why that didn't apply to *The Scarlett Letter* or *Super Mario Bros.* I will never understand.
