The astonishing Donna Murphy. A shame we’ll never see her Rose or Mrs. Lovett. She stands in the tradition of the character leading ladies of yesteryear. Such talent.
Thank you Ms Aurora. Like Donna you are a treasure for posting this. Out of all the Dolly's in the last 2017 revival, (Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters) she was, in my opinion, the most wondrous. She managed to bring you to tears of laughter and to break your heart. I also saw her in Wonderful Town and she was simply magnificent. One only has to remember her Fosca in Passion to know greatness when one sees it.
I was fortunate to see this production at the Encores! It really has a great score even if it's saddled with a somewhat convoluted plot. I had seen a "Revised" version of this a few years before and hadn't realized how much they had cut from the score , but it did have a few "New" songs that Herman had written. That production at the York Theatre starred Tyne Daly.
Thank you so much for giving us this souvenir of the enchanting ENCORES production of DEAR WORLD. I know that this show is considered imperfect, but I loved every moment that the great Donna Murphy was on stage and the music was playing. To hear the overture played by a large orchestra was pure auditory magic. These two clips makes me hope that someone has a video of the complete production. How I wish that the choral reprise of EACH TOMORROW MORNING had been included. There's nothing like a Jerry Herman song starting out as a simple solo and evolving into an anthem that involves the entire company. But, once again AURORA SPIDERWOMAN, thank you for this gift.
To be in tears while you sing the HELL out of "I Don't Want to Know" is insane but not surprising for a performer of Donna Murphy's stature. If they brought this to Broadway, this would be the second time this role won someone a Tony.
What a delightful treat! If you can’t truly appreciate Donna there’s something wrong with you! A highly underrated score too! Thank you as always for all you do Spiderwoman - I hope you have a marvelous summer!
I am a critic and I usually refrain from commenting on posts, such as this, amidst all the flowery posts from those who are more easily entertained ... but THIS is acting in its finest form. "Dear World" has a very special place in my heart and Donna Murphy is fresh and original. She is an artist. Nothing is wasted on her and she throws nothing away. I TOTALLY believe her and I'm sure if I were present in the audience that I would get caught up in her performance instead of dissecting where things could be improved.
2023 was a great year for musicals (Parade, some like it hot, Kimberly akimbo, Camelot) but this was my favorite of the whole season. A magical night at the theater!
Donna Murphy is brilliant in this production. She does not get the recognition she deserves in all the different shows I have seen her in over the years. I did see Angela Lansbury in the original production on Broadway in 1969 and in London with Betty Buckley in 2013. Donna is right up there with both of them.
I saw the original Dear World when I was 16. It remains one of my favorite scores. While there have been several attempts to revive the show, all were lacking until this production. Donna Murphy was wonderful, as was the rest of the cast. Angela Lansbury and Jerry Herman would approve.
Yayy! Donna Murphy is the BEST. Was so sad she couldn’t be at the FOLLIES concert a few weeks ago at Carnegie Hall. Anyway, This ENCORES! production moved me deeply and “Dear World” became a favorite musical of mine. ❤️ Thank you as always, Aurora, for posting these gems - immortalizing fleeting moments of theater magic for all of us!
Thank you so very much. Agree with everyone, Donna is "one of a kind". This was one of the first shows I saw on my first trip to NYC at the age of 18. Sorry I missed this.
Thank you. I hate to be greedy, but will you be posting the song "And I Was Beautiful"? I would love to hear Ms. Murphy's interpretation of that beautiful song.
The part was written for someone like Donna, she's living this character for the show, Dear World has one of the best Herman score but like Mack and Mabel but both suffer from thin books, Dear World was based on a play The Madwoman of Chaillot, that is way too well thought out to never work other than a comical satire even the movie version of the play which opened when Dear World premiered was panned with one review even remarking about Dear World's failure.
This performance is all the more remarkable because Donna had COVID and missed the first half of rehearsals (note the sides she's clutching; it became an extension of her characterization) I'm sorry we never got to see her play Mame.
Do you have the full bootleg? Pls send me or something like That! This musical is my dream and I never had the oportunity to see the full show because i’m from Portugal! Do you have the full show? Sorry for my english. Love for your channel ❤️
Donna Murphy is one of the most incredible actresses that grace our stages today -thanks for posting.
Truly! ❤🧡❤
If we cannot receive a first class revival of Mame, give us a two week run of Mame with Donna. Encore’s please we are BEGGING.
And Christine Baranski can play Vera like she should have all along.
Nothing short of wonderful! Perhaps the only leading lady that can follow in Ms Lansbury's steps (and such lovely and lush design choices too!)
Nice to see you here. I love your UA-cam channel!
This production deserved to transfer, and Donna Murphy is just immaculately brilliant for this role!
The astonishing Donna Murphy. A shame we’ll never see her Rose or Mrs. Lovett. She stands in the tradition of the character leading ladies of yesteryear. Such talent.
She's magnificent, as usual. ❤
Thank you Ms Aurora. Like Donna you are a treasure for posting this. Out of all the Dolly's in the last 2017 revival, (Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters) she was, in my opinion, the most wondrous. I'm going through a rough time, but this video inspires me. I really needed to see it this morning.
Same here.

She dedicated these performances to Dame Angela.
Love this score
Jerry Herman!! Need I say more.
Thank you for this wonderful video! Donna Murphy is a national treasure--she's brilliant no matter what she does.

Time for a Broadway revival! Thanks for posting this wonderful video.
Donna Murphy is perfect in this role...perfect. There is nothing she cannot do, but this performance needs to be seen on Broadway, please.
The way she delivered… is chefs kiss!
Incredible! Donna seems to be channeling a little bit of her (former teacher) Stella Adler here...haha a brilliant choice!
yet another exceptional performance by the stellar Ms. Murphy.
2023 was a great year for musicals (Parade, some like it hot, Kimberly akimbo, Camelot) but this was my favorite of the whole season. A magical night at the theater!
I think this was my favorite NY musical production of 2023,
So incredible. Thank you for sharing. Do you happen to have "Through the Bottom of the Glass?"
Donna Murphy is brilliant in this production. She does not get the recognition she deserves in all the different shows I have seen her in over the years. I needed this to lift my spirits today. Her Dolly was sublime. Her glorious talent is a gift to us all.
Bless you for this footage ❤️❤️
this is fantastic. Donna is fantastic. She makes me wish I could have seen Angela in the very best way possible.
She's a superb and versatile actor and shows should be written for her.
She’s fabulous
this is EVERYTHING to me! yippee!!
What a lovely treat. Thank you!
I wish Encores would put these on TV.
Thank you for posting. Sublime.

Mesmerizing! Wow! ❤🧡❤
She is wonderful in this part. What a beautiful performance!
This is wonderful. Ms. Murphy makes me all tingly in the best possible way.
I needed to experience these moments today. Thank you so much for sharing them. I am grateful beyond words. ❤❤❤
Thank you so very much. Agree with everyone, Donna is "one of a kind". This was one of the first shows I saw on my first trip to NYC at the age of 18. Sorry I missed this.
She looks insane! I love it
she is everything!!! thanks for this
Amazing.
Desperately would like to see the full video I’ve never seen the show. Just the play.
Magnificent
Love her!!!
First watch it with NOT SOUND. Only watching DONNA'a face. What incredible 6'29''!!
This is magnificent! She is perfection in this role! And what a score - one of his absolute best!
Brava! 😢
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IVE SEARCHED FOR FOOTSGE!!!
We LOVE you Cicily Daniels ❤
Keep acting, singing and DANCING until the breaks fall off.
Your Yale Dancer brother from another. ❤❤❤
Brilliant. Bloody brilliant! I never truly knew what the sound was really all about until just now.
Delightful indeed! Lovely!
Jerry Herman said his favorite song that he composed is "I Don't Want to Know." 😊
Thank you. I hate to be greedy, but will you be posting the song "And I Was Beautiful"? I would love to hear Ms. Murphy's interpretation of that beautiful song.
those tear streaks during that manic ending. she's eating.
This is a revival of 2023? Thrilling!
She was Great as Rapunzels Mother in Tangled!
You mean Mother Gothel, right? Because Gothel was NOT Rapunzel's biological mother!
do you have a clip of donna murphy doing the tea party scene? curious how she pulled that off
The part was written for someone like Donna, she's living this character for the show, Dear World has one of the best Herman score but like Mack and Mabel but both suffer from thin books, Dear World was based on a play The Madwoman of Chaillot, that is way too well thought out to never work other than a comical satire even the movie version of the play which opened when Dear World premiered was panned with one review even remarking about Dear World's failure.
Donna is Magnificent.
I saw Angela do it in the 1960's.
Donna's interpretation is Better.
I think Dear World needs a revival, a modern take. The music is great, the problem is modern.
This performance is all the more remarkable because Donna had COVID and missed the first half of rehearsals (note the sides she's clutching; it became an extension of her characterization)
I'm sorry we never got to see her play Mame.
She's like a combination of Mary Poppins and Fosca;
Do you have the full bootleg? Pls send me or something like That! This musical is my dream and I never had the oportunity to see the full show because i’m from Portugal! Do you have the full show? Sorry for my english. Love for your channel ❤️
Awe, c'mon... if you're gonna post (fabulous) stuff like this... TELL US DETAILS. Is this a touring production, a fancy concert version? 5 W's gee
Just google Encores! Dear World
Why aren't visible microphones on faces banned from the theater???
I will pay everything I possibly can for a full bootleg.
This is one show I would love to see staged.
I was wondering why she was taking constant breaths. She also didn't sustain notes. Otherwise agreed,,,,wonderful musical performer
She was just getting over COVID. In fact she missed the first part of rehearsals while recuperating.
Very choppy and sloppy. she's certainly no Angela, who in the original was perfection. Saw her in the Boston tryout prior to NY way back when.
