I am from Serbia and I love your video! I also agree with everything you said, good points, as well as bad points, except for the tiny part - that it is hard to find a salad in Serbian restaurants. Although it's not customary to order only a salad, most restaurants have a wide variety of salads (Serbian/Greek/lettuce/fried peppers with garlic/ajvar (roasted red bell peppers)/mixed, vitamin, etc.). Perhaps you were looking for salad meals, such as a Ceasar salad, which you can find in fine-dining, modern restaurants in bigger cities, such as Belgrade and Novi Sad. All in all, you two have made an amazing review of what Serbia has to offer, and I hope you'll come by again in the future! 😊👋

4:40 Donji Milanovac (Donyee Milanovats) but I still liked your pronunciation! :) It means Lower Milanovac. Donji comes from the word Do/Dol/Dolina which means valley in most slavic languages so you'll find some villages with those words. Cognate with Proto-Germanic *dalą (“valley”), English dale, Old Norse dalr, Old High German tal, Welsh dol (“valley”). 😃 Dole means Down in Serbian. So they all seem to be connected.

I am a non smoker and I can say that it is not that bad with smoking in Serbia any longer. People are generally much more considerate than in the past and of all indoor places you will see people smoking just in some restaurants and cafes, nowhere else. In good weather you sit outdoors and, unless you are super sensitive and ideologically wound up, you will get by clear of smoke.
Novi Sad and, generally, northern Serbia, are wonderful, though - true - a bit slower than Belgrade. Enjoying your meal in a traditional kafana with live, traditional music, could be supreme and memorable.
Besides Zlatibor, Tara and Zlatar, I would definitely suggest Kopaonik and Stara planina.

Smoking. Being someone who lived in Western Europe for around 6 years and returning to my home country, I know that this is a big deal breaker, but it shouldn't be. Actually there were multiple occasions when our government tried to impose a law where the smoking is forbidden in caffe', but the push back from the caffes was so hard because of the people who love to come on the morning coffee and to smoke one or two cigarettes. You probably don't know, but there are also non-smoking caffes in the cities of Belgrade and Novi Sad, for example in the malls it is forbidden to smoke so in the cafe's as well in the malls.

Sorry to hear, you not liked Subotica much. Probably something with the rain as well. Usually the town center is full with people sunny days. Often there are organized happenings, you missed those, bad timing. But what you should of done is to visit Palić as well. There are multiple salaš as well, not just around Niš. Good to hear overally you liked our country.

here in serbia, you're either a belgrade type of person or a novi sad type of person, so basically, people who hate hussle and bussle and overcrowded places really dislike belgrade and love novi sad, and the opposite is for the ones who like the crowd and noise, they love belgrade and find novi sad boring. i'm personally more of a novi sad kind of person. it's a really cool city if you visit it at the right season, i find autumns there beautiful, but it's definitely not great for tourists when it's raining. if you visited it at another, better time, i'm sure you'd like it more :) however, it still probably won't be your favourite as i see you treasure nature and adventure more than architecture and history.

I think you did a great review there, both of you, and I agree with so much of what you said! Yes, food is great but Serbia doesn't really do 'snacks'. The smoking - it is a major issue for me too.. not so bad in summer but in the winter, total nightmare! However, that is the culture and it is the fact that Serbia is not like other countries (and not so westernized) that I love it so much. I've watched almost all your Serbia videos and you did a great job. You channel will go from strength to strength. Keep going.

Let me first tell you my true opinion of you two before I start watching your video, because I don't want to get influenced with what you say about Serbia... Jess is like the definition of beautiful, and Mike is like the definition of cute. 😆 You visited all great places and spots most Serbians don't see all of them through lifetime and doesn't experience adventures like paragliding... but besides adventurous spirit and getting to know Serbia like a local, you two look nice as well... Jess has very good face proportions and an awesome smile and Mike is just cute. (Sorry mate ;) I hope you don't mind my opinion) We'll that's my honest opinion of you... Serbians may be generally honest but I would say they are learning to get ahead, even if that means not being so honest. In following comment about Germans, I am not going to suggest that West Germans are dishonest but people have commented that East Germans are much more socially oriented and friendly while West Germans are much more focused on themselves and are more economically aggressive to benefit themselves. That, I would say is a result of living in a competitive capitalist environment. Fortunately, Europeans have, for most part, avoided the extreme competitive environment nurtured across the Atlantic. Having a social safety net to support its population in times of need avoids extreme selfishness and need to literally fight for one's life to survive and avoid life in the gutter. It is so disappointing to see all the tent cities in LA and other places but the system seems to rely on such extremes to drive the rest of population to work harder even if not for more money.

Hi Jess and Mike, I just found your vlogs a couple of days ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The quality of production, your research of where you are and what you are seeing, and especially your engaging manner of connecting with your audience make your vlogs a cut above. As you can tell by my name, my heritage is in Serbian although I was born in Canada. I grew up trying to be more Canadian, but after visiting a few times, (a couple of times for extended months) I now embrace my Serbian heritage. I am lucky that I can speak the language and read the alphabet. It is refreshing to see Serbia through your new eyes.
One question: I see you drinking a lot of coffee. Did you ever try turska kafa and roshtil like cevapi and razhnichi?
