Man I remember seeing that post credits scene in MW 2019 and I was so excited to see if they went the WW3 route like in the originals…. Now we have this
Imagine a studio making a CoD-style campaign that lasts around 15 hours while keeping you engaged. Think of the structure and gameplay systems as a more action-heavy version of Splinter Cell: Blacklist or the various other singleplayer games out there with mission-based structure without being too linear. You get the classic recommended loadouts per mission, but you're also allowed to earn in-game currency and points to upgrade and customize your gear. Man, I'd love to play a game like that. As of late, we often get one of or both out of two extremes... either full-blown, cosmetic-microtransaction-heavy multiplayer games with season passes and the overly-bloated Ubisoft-style sandboxes... or singleplayer games that have way too many walking segments and cutscenes that often bloat the runtime and take away control from the player. It's why I've grown tired of modern gaming. I miss gameplay-focused games that were like classic God of War games or The Darkness II, The Punisher, Manhunt, etc. Games that didn't have to be open world. It's probably why I've enjoyed games like Doom (2016) and Eternal or Resident Evil 4 (remake) the most in the AAA space and why I'm absolutely baffled by Remedy's idea of an Alan Wake sequel. Games that have lots of respect for the player's time and engagement while having so much replay value without having to be repetitive in the worst ways possible. As of late, if you know where to look, indie gaming is where the most fun is at.
To be honest I was really looking forward to world war 3 scenario like in the original COD MW But I am assuming we're not gonna get it in the reboot version of it😢😢😢
Imagine if the open missions were big battles with combined arms and the trenditionl liner missions instead of the empty multiplayer maps with brain dead ai
I remember hearing rumors that an open world COD campaign was in the works a long time ago. I hope that the feedback from this game makes them realize that they probably shouldn't do that.
Great review, I will hold my money. I defintely enjoyed the 1st game. The second game was ok. This looks like more like a DLC or extra missions to the 2nd game.
Seems like the campaign format is inspired by the one from Battlefield 1. Which is funny, because pretty much everyone hated the campaign format in Battlefield 1.
@@ChandranPrema123 I thought no one had a problem with that in the Battlefield community. After all, the BF series' main focus is multiplayer so of course they're gonna reuse maps from multiplayer. Multiplayer first, campaign second.
damn that gameplay mechanic, open-ended missions, sounds like Far Cry when you tryna capture an enemy post or base. I kinda miss the mid-2000s style blockbuster, Michael Bay stuff, set pieces, or whatever it's called, and mix or balance them with the more grounded missions of MW2019. I also like how you pointed out where they always seem to exchange edgy one-liners, that's so accurate.
SPOILER It's incredible to me that they keep most of the original crew alive, bring back Alex and Graves, but still decide to kill off Soap and make sure he's dead. Such a crucial character from the original games, who was put behind Ghost, who wasn't even that important in the original MW2.
@@Nick930 @Nick930 Cool you responded man, love your vids And Id say Soap was real important in the original trilogy. Killed Zakhaev, Shepherd, led 141 when Price was in the gulag. He made a big name for himself going from an FNG who beat Gaz in the cargo ship mockup to his Captain rank. In the new MWs, he wasn't anywhere near as iconic. He feels like a young tryhard who was a good soldier but that was it. Meanwhile, Ghost was a guy in a mask with Craig Fairbrass (original Gaz's VA) as his VA, but in this iteration, he's elevated to Price importance. I just can't take him seriously with his cringey lines and his mask all over the place lol New Price was very fitting though. Excellent performance and portrayal.
@@BlackEagle352 exactly. I thought soaps death in the original mw3 was a bit forced due to writer change, but it was emotional and handled exactly how Price would have reacted. Soap went down fighting and even saving Yuri, which was fitting. The new series is plain cringe and franchise fodder.
Of all the characters they recasted the Makarov is the worst one. The others characters compared to their original counterparts were decent but the Makarov recast is the worst. I mean the original Makarov has to have been one of the best fictional villains of all time. The way he talks & engages in the Cat & Mouse chase with 141 was just phenomenal. They need to release a remastered version of the original MW3.
Maybe the devs didnt even put an effort on quality on campaign. Or they didnt even play it. Release and forget. Its a red flag. Expect the rest of the game to be abandoned or lack of support.
It's definitely the shortest but not the worst in terms of quality. Black Ops 3 is really hard to beat on that front. It was almost completely incoherent at times.
This campaign was supposed to be DLC for MW2022, but somewhere down the the higher ups decided to add a multiplayer and zombies and release it as a full game. There went the promise of no more annual releases.
They could never hope to top 2009's MW2 campaign, doesn't get much grander than a emp knocking choppers out of the sky and storming the whitehouse lawn taking it back from russians before its bombed to hell.
10:49 that mission was so annoying, I couldn't find anyway to take them both out in a quiet way, and it's literally a step away from the entire base seeing. I had to reload it over and over. Just to waltz on in and meet someone in a broom closet to finish the level.
Honestly the open mission types have real potential. Obv the emphasis is on “potential”. It would have been pretty cool if story changed depending on how you tackled the open mapped missions. Eg. if you went loud but alert, later missions would have harder AI such higher jugg spawns and enemies being auto alert. Whereas if you went silent the opposite but a base higher enemy count so that multiple stealth in a row actually takes skill.
Black Ops 2 also reused mp maps for its strike force missions, but the difference was: 1. They were optional; 2. Doing them actually changes the outcome of the story
I definitely expected more from this campaign, the first 2 were great but here the drop in overall quality is very apparent. Hope they can salvage it with MW4 which is all but confirmed with how this one ended.
It was deffo supposed to be a MW2 expansion. It even needs MW2 to be installed to play it. As an expansion, its pretty fun As a main line release, yeah its not worth $70 whatsoever
it needs mw2 to be installed to play it cuz MW2 acts as CoD HQ, when black ops comes out next year it will also be a "DLC" for CoD HQ just like MWIII is treated as a DLC for CoD HQ bruh
@@sommer4570 you can make CodHQ without requiring MW2. Because that is literally how it ran from MW2019 to MW2. Cold war and Vanguard included. They acted separate but could be launched from either game. Now they changed it so they can run MW3 off MW2s files and why activision outright stated all files can transfer like skins and eventually maps. MW3 was brought in after treyarch needed another year. MW2 was always planned as a 2 year game, but now its marketed at a mainline release.
I don't think the crashing when loading a mission was to do with your recording software. I experienced the same issue throughout the entire campaign. Every time I load a mission there's about a 50/50 chance it will crash.
There’s something seriously wrong with the steam version. I noticed it would corrupt my files and I had to verify them after every reboot or the game would crash every time
Nah, it's a Dev Error. Booted up the campaign for the first time and the PS5 immediately began to connect/disconnect to the internet over and over again before the whole game crashed and I had to restart the console to get it all working again
It’s so bad, and you didn’t even touch on the abrupt “cliffhanger” ending. It made no sense. I said out loud “is that fucking it?” When the credits rolled. I literally beat it in an afternoon. I legit feel like an idiot for buying it. I said I wouldn’t, but I caved. Hopefully the multiplayer is good….
For the right price I would be willing to forgive the shitty campaign and insignificant zombies mode (which is really just a variation of DMZ) and have some fun with the MP, but they must be completely out of their mind charging full price for this mess. Not even -50% would be good enough. Have some integrity, people, seriously ...
It most definitely was a spec ops campaign expansion and map pack that got forced into being a standalone title. Sad that sledgehammer got stuffed around like that.
6:37 another thing I guess is that Multiplayer and Singleplayer maps are fundamentally different in design (both open and more coridor shotter like). Like even back in HL1/HL2 days no game took a single player map and just ported it over to multiplayer you might have a map that pass thought a multiplayer map that been heavily edited. think of it like a multiplayer map set on a shipping dock whit a cargo ship next to it (you can enter the ship the barrier is in the way). the single player map starts or end on the ship whit you getting on or off the boat then fighting through a specific part of the docks to a point on the other side of the map you can´t visit but maybe see in multiplayer. .... should really get around to find that designing a FPS shooter map for Multiplayer vs single player its good if I remmber correctly (was years sinse I saw it).
When a smaller game like Ultrakill that isnt finished yet has an antagonist that's only in like 2 levels and doesnt have anywhere near the screentime but 10x as much personality and impact as a AAA blockbuster shooter character, something is off.
I miss playing as a regular US Army soldier trying to save America from destruction, and occasionally as the Special Forces doing their thing, instead as some bubbly "one man army" good guys against comically evil people. COD just feels like an action comic book for 12 year olds instead of gritty, serious shooters like World At War
The thing about this series is that the title was just a title unlike the previous series that the title really means something, like OG modern warfare really feels like warfere in the modern times, but this series was just a millitary operation
The OG Modern warfare campaigns only kept on getting better from each installment, in contrary to this rework where the experience only has declined since the first one…
I mean I hate this too but guess what guys? If you don’t like a game then don’t buy it. It’s like watching the sims or ea sports fans constantly complaining about how bad the games are now but they still buy them. Stop buying these games and making these companies massive profits and they’ll have an incentive to actually change.
The problem is there was no real threat. No high stake missions. Although they tried i knew the team would survive. I never got the feeling like when the russians were attacking washington and seeing the neighborhoods become a warzone in OG MW had my adrenaline running. I knew time was of the essence. Survival was a necessity. These missions were boring. The big moment didn't even feel right. Ghost should have been more hurt. Not price.
Yeah, those were pretty good They had 3 years to make those and 1 year to make this one; even if majority of assets is already premade, that is just impossible to pull of succesfully with today's dev systems
honestly as long as they keep adding f2p game modes to warzone like dmz and resurgence, maybe some live events like what they do in fortnite maps and ill play, havent bought a cod game in over a decade, and i dont plan too. i did buy cod points for my warzone profile for dmz because i enjoyed it so much and didnt feel force. i dont really care for scripted stories for the most part. i like dmz because its so open ended and free.
Cod 2019 set a tone for me that mw2 and especially mw3 didn’t even come close to setting. 2019’s campaign was dark and gritty, and i absolutely loved that. Mw2 set the tone back and was nowhere near as dark or anytning that I was hoping for, not saying the campaign was awful but I was let down for sure. Mw3… yeah I’m skipping out on this one, this is such a let down. 2019 had me so hyped for the next installments and they just completely failed in every aspect
And while reviewers lament its quality or call it a downright scam, it sells millions. *shrugs* Like shooting a bullet at the sun. Haven't played a CoD since Advanced Warfare. If you enjoy the game though, fair play - you do you 👍.
so a 50% discount during Winter sales then? I'd like even more than 50% but oh well! can't have 'em all. I was a clown to pre-order MW2 hoping for something instead of seeing what it was.
I was first in line when it came to getting MW2019 and MW2022 I'm not getting this one. Not only because the campaign is meh, but because these games have gotten increasingly scummy. I'm not paying $70 for maps I played over a decade ago and the eventual vomit of micro transactions and disappointing seasonal content.
Great video! However about your future comparison video: why not compare the MP remastered maps to MW2 2009 original maps? That's the main selling point of the game. And yeah I know IW4x was shut down unfortunately so it might be tricky to get footage of the latter :(
It's not bad, but I would go back to MW 2019 for the story and multiplayer. I would only play MW3 for multiplayer because the story is too short and I didn't understand the ending

Also, cutsceneless gameplay a la Half-Life and modding support like Cod games used to have. I missed them.
When they go on sale you can get the entire original Modern Warfare collection for the price of this one game.
I'm pretty sure the next entry will follow the actual plot of MW3. This one was supposed to be DLC for last years game and it shows
@@luismiranda8944 can't believe it's taken them 2 games and 2 years of WZ sub stories to just now get to OG MW3's plot
Esg and BlackRock happened
I remember hearing rumors that an open world COD campaign was in the works a long time ago. I hope that the feedback from this game makes them realize that they probably shouldn't do that.
Great review, I will hold my money. I defintely enjoyed the 1st game. The second game was ok. This looks like more like a DLC or extra missions to the 2nd game.
Seems like the campaign format is inspired by the one from Battlefield 1. Which is funny, because pretty much everyone hated the campaign format in Battlefield 1.
Huh??? Battlefield 1's campaign was awesome, tf you mean?
@@Swattiistory yes Gameplay wise no.
BF1 Campaign was just like MW3 .
Multiplayer maps with AI.
You can feel that.
Even Nick 930 said that
@@ChandranPrema123 I thought no one had a problem with that in the Battlefield community. After all, the BF series' main focus is multiplayer so of course they're gonna reuse maps from multiplayer. Multiplayer first, campaign second.
😊
This is going to be the worst cod of all time besides Vanguard
At least Vanguard's campaign was somewhat decent.
@@robpatershukLonger, you mean.
@@deldude1412 Yeah. Longer and had some interesting mechanics to it. I really enjoyed playing as that girl and doing parkour all over the place.
Paying 70 quid for this is a crime.
This campaign feels like DMZ in warzone 2
It sure does. I heard this game was supposed to be a DLC for MW2 with a few DMZ solo missions. This year's COD was just overall lazy and a scam
@@Mattius08 waist of 70 dollars
hard to call it DMZ. you had missions at the very least along with fighting challenging enemies(players)
@@ZeroOne-mp1qe most of the missions are open wort and it makes it feel like DMZ and I don't like it
Thankfully I have no idea what you're talking about
damn that gameplay mechanic, open-ended missions, sounds like Far Cry when you tryna capture an enemy post or base. I kinda miss the mid-2000s style blockbuster, Michael Bay stuff, set pieces, or whatever it's called, and mix or balance them with the more grounded missions of MW2019. I also like how you pointed out where they always seem to exchange edgy one-liners, that's so accurate.
Even Cod Ghosts had a solid story mode.
Ghost had a really decent story. Game gets more hate than it deserves.
@@b3z3rk34 The ending did suck though
The setting and idea behind it was cool. Like the entire South America banding together and ganging up on the United States.
Execution was meh
Why is Farah still a returning character? She made sense in MW 2019 but now she feels shoehorned in, like they need to have some kind of "gurl power"
She was originally written by a completely different team that probably had no idea she'd last as a a character this long
Her country is the one being framed as terrorists in the campaign.
Farah has to be the most "ah here we go again.." character ever created
SPOILER
It's incredible to me that they keep most of the original crew alive, bring back Alex and Graves, but still decide to kill off Soap and make sure he's dead. Such a crucial character from the original games, who was put behind Ghost, who wasn't even that important in the original MW2.
Aside from being the first playable mw character, i dont even think soap was all that important and felt his death in mw3 was kinda.. meh.
@@Nick930 @Nick930 Cool you responded man, love your vids
And Id say Soap was real important in the original trilogy. I just can't take him seriously with his cringey lines and his mask all over the place lol
New Price was very fitting though. Excellent performance and portrayal.
They don't have the balls to kill off Ghost in MWII and now kill of Soap with no build up whatsoever. The story might as well be written by AI.
They should went for a co-op campaign if they where going for an open combat system
Completed it on veteran. Was a grind but overall its was lack luster
0:03 i usually don't notice these stuff, but the video barely starts and our man
is just levitating through that fallen tree hahahhaha
Great video Nick keep up the good work👍👍👍
Maybe the devs didnt even put an effort on quality on campaign. Or they didnt even play it. Release and forget. Its a red flag. Expect the rest of the game to be abandoned or lack of support.
I feel so sorry for those who have bought this game. Call of Duty lost its soul and identity in 2012 after the release of Black Ops 2.
I bought the $100 edition of MWIII cuz I play for Multiplayer and Multiplayer is fcking great, everybody who buys CoD for a campaign is a dumbass
Yeah, that's probably my best best whenever I go into the series. Tho, what about Infinite Warfare? That one looks great
i'd say it still has a bit of soul left (ex: MW2019, Black Ops Cold War, MW II (campaign)
Facts. CoD will never be good again.
Black Ops 2 is amazing, it even has choices that changes the story cutscene
It's definitely the shortest but not the worst in terms of quality. Black Ops 3 is really hard to beat on that front. It was almost completely incoherent at times.
literally abysmal storytelling in BO3
Yeah BLack Ops 3 story made no sense at all. I had no clue what was going on
Dunno, at least that campaign was ballsy enough to try to be different with its approach to storytelling despite it being flawed.
It was still a fun campaign with well-crafted levels. This shit is a copy and paste job.
They should’ve just remastered the campaign of the OG MW3 2011. Like they did with MW2…
I remember people hated the infinite warfare campaign just to hate it but only real mfs recognized the potential in mechanics and a great narrative
Any COD with Sledgehammer sticky fingers on it is a no go.
10:49 that mission was so annoying, I couldn't find anyway to take them both out in a quiet way, and it's literally a step away from the entire base seeing. I had to reload it over and over. Just to waltz on in and meet someone in a broom closet to finish the level.
i feel like cold war is the best campaign we have had recently
Best cod since the mw2019 Era, not just campaign
@lorenzo2709 Yeah, zombies was a blast to play.
Yeah and it has over the top characters too but they were dope
mw2019 and cold war had great campaigns
Honestly the open mission types have real potential. Obv the emphasis is on “potential”. It would have been pretty cool if story changed depending on how you tackled the open mapped missions. Eg. if you went loud but alert, later missions would have harder AI such higher jugg spawns and enemies being auto alert. Whereas if you went silent the opposite but a base higher enemy count so that multiple stealth in a row actually takes skill.
They could also take inspiration from Hitman somehow. Imagine having to break into a nuclear silo or sumn and you have 4 unique ways to do it
Should’ve been like old school Ghost Recon where you’re in a large map with a squad having to complete objectives in however you like.
Black Ops 2 also reused mp maps for its strike force missions, but the difference was: 1. They were optional; 2. Doing them actually changes the outcome of the story
That takes brains and effort. They can't do that
This video is just under 17 minutes long? It’s not often you get reviews that are longer than the game they’re reviewing
Anyone notice the switch to actual cutscenes rather than the first person sequences COD was famous for?
I definitely expected more from this campaign, the first 2 were great but here the drop in overall quality is very apparent. Hope they can salvage it with MW4 which is all but confirmed with how this one ended.
I want those original MW2 maps so bad, definitely not worth purchasing this slop, though.
From the sound of it, the "Campaign" is a glorified Warzone tutorial?
Exactly what I said
They should have never rushed into MW3. It should have launched as per order after Treyarch COD
It was deffo supposed to be a MW2 expansion. It even needs MW2 to be installed to play it.
As an expansion, its pretty fun
As a main line release, yeah its not worth $70 whatsoever
it needs mw2 to be installed to play it cuz MW2 acts as CoD HQ, when black ops comes out next year it will also be a "DLC" for CoD HQ just like MWIII is treated as a DLC for CoD HQ bruh
@@reslek9053 Never said it wasn’t a dev error lol. Just commenting on the fact that they have seriously botched the steam version.
It’s been an issue on PC since day 1 with MW2 2022, when I load a mission my whole game crashes sometimes. Once even froze my PC and made me restart
I knew the ending was coming based on the way the final mission was building up. I was afraid it was about to end with that ac130 mission.
I can’t believe they didn’t build off of mw 19 story and characters. I’ll miss those times
A 15 Dollar/Euro DLC sold as a 70 Dollar/Euro full priced individual new game in the series.
It most definitely was a spec ops campaign expansion and map pack that got forced into being a standalone title. Sad that sledgehammer got stuffed around like that.
More like mw2.1
so just like the original MW3?
@@sommer4570
Nah
Agreed.
@sommer4570 tbh og mw3 was way better and thay atleest added som new shit that was fun
@@sommer4570Nope! Don’t insult the original, dummy.
4:35 excellent point. I had never really thought about it that way.
The OG Modern warfare campaigns only kept on getting better from each installment, in contrary to this rework where the experience only has declined since the first one…
So glad I bought mw2019, had 27 days of game time, and then never bought another cod game since
Yeah‚ I've had fun with MW3‚ but it was the 2011 one.
all those serie should be over by now
I mean I hate this too but guess what guys?
Not price.
hard to say price even got hurt. man just coughs up "sarin" gas like it was nothing
How does this happen I thought MW 2019 and MW2 had really good campaigns
Yeah, those were pretty good
They had 3 years to make those and 1 year to make this one; even if majority of assets is already premade, that is just impossible to pull of succesfully with today's dev systems
No way you thought MWII campaign was good🤡🤡🤡
That shit was horrendous
That's why I only own MW 1, haven't even considered buying MW 2 & 3
multiplayer in 2 was crap but the campaign was great
@@ReubenJ1 Not really, some missions were good, but the story was bad.
honestly as long as they keep adding f2p game modes to warzone like dmz and resurgence, maybe some live events like what they do in fortnite maps and ill play, havent bought a cod game in over a decade, and i dont plan too. i did buy cod points for my warzone profile for dmz because i enjoyed it so much and didnt feel force. i dont really care for scripted stories for the most part. i like dmz because its so open ended and free.
The campaign was done by infinity ward while SGH worked on bits of it.
Every year: "Worst COD campaign yet!"
Also every year: *sells millions*
Cod 2019 set a tone for me that mw2 and especially mw3 didn’t even come close to setting. 2019’s campaign was dark and gritty, and i absolutely loved that. Mw2 set the tone back and was nowhere near as dark or anytning that I was hoping for, not saying the campaign was awful but I was let down for sure. Mw3… yeah I’m skipping out on this one, this is such a let down. 2019 had me so hyped for the next installments and they just completely failed in every aspect
huh. Nice to see you didn't completely bootlick the title despite the review code provided by Actvision
This video was longer than the entire campaign 😂
And while reviewers lament its quality or call it a downright scam, it sells millions. *shrugs* Like shooting a bullet at the sun. Haven't played a CoD since Advanced Warfare. If you enjoy the game though, fair play - you do you 👍.
Cod 1, United Offensive, 2 and MW1 (the original) still have my favorite campaigns.
so a 50% discount during Winter sales then? I'd like even more than 50% but oh well! can't have 'em all.
I was a clown to pre-order MW2 hoping for something instead of seeing what it was.
I was first in line when it came to getting MW2019 and MW2022
I'm not getting this one. Not only because the campaign is meh, but because these games have gotten increasingly scummy.
I'm not paying $70 for maps I played over a decade ago and the eventual vomit of micro transactions and disappointing seasonal content.
They messed up real bad here
Great video! However about your future comparison video: why not compare the MP remastered maps to MW2 2009 original maps? That's the main selling point of the game. And yeah I know IW4x was shut down unfortunately so it might be tricky to get footage of the latter :(
Cheers mate, great video!
Question: Will you do a direct comparison between Gran Turismo 7 and the latest Forza Motorsport?
It's not bad, but I would go back to MW 2019 for the story and multiplayer. I would only play MW3 for multiplayer because the story is too short and I didn't understand the ending
Its a $70 Demo for the Warzone 3.0 update which is pretty much Warzone 1 Remastered. Its getting embarrassing.
The timing is hilarious, Microsoft just burned billions to buy CoD alongside Candy Crush, the next day here it comes the worst CoD ever, lol
COD Infinity Warfare and Ghost: well well would you look at that
7:06 That is from the Movie 'Zero Dark Thirty'
Thats from mw 2019. It's based on zero dark thirty
Now it's time for the World at War and Black Ops reboots.
Please no
How about no reboots at all
