This trip starts just past the county line where we head North from Malibu and Los Angeles County into Ventura County along the Pacific Coast Highway. Point Mugu is a cape within Point Mugu State Park on the Pacific Coast in Ventura County, near the city of Port Hueneme and the city of Oxnard.
Point Mugu Rock (07:15) is a distinctive feature of the coastal headland promontory that has been featured in many film and television shoots. This igneous seawall marks the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains. From the Santa Monica Mountains Rec Area just past Mugu Rock (09:35) we head back South through the rock and down the PCH. We later turn North back into the clouds via the Mulholland Highway (23:45).
Point Mugu Rock has appeared in ‘A Few Good Men’ (1992), ‘Drive’ (2011), ‘Midway’ (1976), ‘The A-Team’ (1986), ‘True Detective’ (2015) and multiple episodes of ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ (1995-1996) just to name a few.
