I quite like songs like this. This and Space-Dye Vest didn't really grab my attention initially, a bit too out there for a first time listen. But now, I absolutely love them. They both have this strange and unique beauty and sadness to them, it's just so genius.
This is an incredible song. Probably my all time favorite DT song, except, perhaps for "I Walk beside You" and/or Under Peruvian Skies. It's so evocative, and it hits you right where you live. Masterful composition; inspired singing; meaningful lyrics- it has it all! I also love songs that keep adding new instruments and/or parts as they go along- building abd building and...
i used to listen to this song after my girlfriend broke up with me and loved her very much and had very hard time accepting the fact that we wont be together anymore. i felt like this song is exactly describing what i felt and went through.
Actually, they've played Disappear only 2 times: at Budokan (this video) and on NY, featuring cellist Eugene Friesen (ua-cam.com/video/WusHNPS7p7c/v-deo.html). Criminally underrated song.
it's ok, i agree the mood that this song contains is not very happy and it's not the kind of song that will win someone over to liking DT. but it's beyond comparison, it's one of a kind. looking at the DT discography, this one really stands out. and it get's to a point where it's scary. it's like, what can't they do?
I like the album version with backing vocals, but when James sings alone and each phrase starts a bit out of sync with the instruments, there music creates this feeling of disconnect and uncertainty that pairs well with the content of the lyrics.
QUANDO OUSO COISAS LINDAS SINTO VONTADE DE VOAR....QUE NEM UM PÁSSARO..SEM DESTINO .VERY BEAUTIFUL AI EU VOLTO AOS MEUS 14 ANOS. AH!!!!!!!! 14 ANOS QUE NÃO ESQUEÇO!
There is a theory that Dissapear, Vacant and the section Medicate (Awakening) from Octavarium (all the lyrics written by Labrie), are a trilogy of a same story about a man who losted her girlfriend. True or not, try to listen these three songs and take your own conclusions.
@seamonkey18 According to James, it was written by him when he was in a mall and he saw 2 folks really in love. He wondered what would go through one's head when his/her's significant other suddenly met with a fatal accident
Back in the day, when this DVD came out, I watched with a good friend of mine with the lyrics on the screen. During this song my friend burst into tears, turned out he had lost a loved one not too long ago and this song really hit home. Even to this day I find this hard to listen too without getting emotional; Love this song.
The third verse literally gives me goosebumps. This song is beyond compare. So sad and full of meager hope.
Devastating ballad. One of their best post-Kevin Moore pieces.
There's plenty of post Kevin more ballads that are great 💀
This song is perfect. James Labrie is perfect in this song. Voice=GOLD

Tyler Bailey yeah
This is one of the reasons why I love DT. They are not just metal. They can make emotional, love, inspirational, sad songs like this
This song always brought a tear to my eye. It's the perfect song for my taste.
I don't care what the haters say, but NOBODY sings with the same emotion that Labrie does
100% agree! Not to mention he wrote the lyrics for this song. (I think)
@@jorgenricardo yes he did
I think Dio also sings with a lot of emotion
Dying rabbits do.....i know....i rabbit hunt with beagles....sound you’ll always remember
Jon Oliva of Savatage and Blackie Lawless of WASP...
This song remember and it will always remember the first person I've ever loved. Hope one day you'll read this.
when the drums cut in and the flames come up, is seriously EPIC

Best chord progression EVER. Dm - Gmaj - Am - Cmaj. Fun fact: DT has only played this song live a few times....like 3 or 4 tops
yeah it's pretty amazing. never thought this technically simple progression would sound this good.
kinda sad they never played some of my favorites more. :(
This is the saddest song ever written. It's not surprising they don't want to put the audience in such mood.
Actually, they've played Disappear only 2 times: at Budokan (this video) and on NY, featuring cellist Eugene Friesen (ua-cam.com/video/WusHNPS7p7c/v-deo.html). Criminally underrated song.
Sadly none of the songs with lyrics written by Labrie ever get much playtime after the initial album tour.
I believe this song was originally wrote about death... bewildering fact is how close is loosing of beloved person to death...

Matthieu, you are spot on friend. One of my favorite things about JLB.
Great song it realy moves you. Leaves an impression. Not easy to do.
This song always gives me the feels. Love it.
breathtaking.
Cries in myungian.
This live version is a bit faster and somewhat stripped back when it comes to effects, and I think it is better this way
NOW I THINK AND FEELING...BEAUTIFUL YELLOW BIRD/VERY BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
Never fails to make me cry
a deep feeling my james, ILU
The opening section and the song as a whole reminds me of Weakness by Opeth.
Perfection.
soo beautiful..

This song represents my feelings for the one i love.
Magnífica interpretación. Thanks DT

QUANDO OUSO COISAS LINDAS SINTO VONTADE DE VOAR....QUE NEM UM PÁSSARO..SEM DESTINO .VERY BEAUTIFUL
AI EU VOLTO AOS MEUS 14 ANOS. AH!!!!!!!! 14 ANOS QUE NÃO ESQUEÇO!
Wow!
I thought that i have just an illusion, but this version is faster that album track. Unfortunately
There is a theory that Dissapear, Vacant and the section Medicate (Awakening) from Octavarium (all the lyrics written by Labrie), are a trilogy of a same story about a man who losted her girlfriend.

Noooooooooosssaaa linda D+ e meu filho diz, ah!nao gosto naooo!!!pode????
Anyone 2024??
Nessa época a banda era mais equilibrada e interessada em agradar os fãs... saudades...
super human
Some sad shit here.
I did really like charlie tho. his voice on Only a Matter of Time was epic.
no se escucha? :(
too fast
@gatogordo1990 that's not a missed note, at least I don't think so
I still think of my exgirlfriend when I hear this song... damn... feels so right and so wrong at the same time...
@DarkHound9999 Yeah, James wrote it when his mother was dying..
Tyler Mattison It's not about his mother tho...
ahhhhh i hate the mix in this live... to quietly...
Man they play this waaaay too fast. Petrucci should have done some backing vocals too. I was disappointed at the delivery of this song.
@seamonkey18 According to James, it was written by him when he was in a mall and he saw 2 folks really in love. He wondered what would go through one's head when his/her's significant other suddenly met with a fatal accident
This is too fast, otherwise a very good performance
same here... I really miss my my girl, well my girl till yesterday... it seems it was written for me...
lot of people in the comments comparing their own failed relationships with a song about a couple where one of them literally dies
Back in the day, when this DVD came out, I watched with a good friend of mine with the lyrics on the screen. During this song my friend burst into tears, turned out he had lost a loved one not too long ago and this song really hit home. Even to this day I find this hard to listen too without getting emotional; Love this song.
Masterpiece ✌🎼😍
To me that s LaBrie best performance ! The sadness in his voice cuts you like a knife
Listened to this song a hundred times....not bleeding yet
Not quite my tempo
Absolutely! Wonder if there's a live version at the RIGHT tempo, I'm on the look out
this is one of the saddest dt songs, along with Space-Dye Vest
i love the intro
so since they play this a bit fast does that mean they don't play to a click live?
+TheQtip96 Portnoy usually plays a bit faster live
They'd also play with a click if there was some sort of separate audio (like film snippets or sound effects that Jordan wouldn't be able to trigger)
love this song
me encanta este tema lml
y en este concierto lo hicieron perfecto lml
No illusions helps trying is the only question facing it alone
@Danieliyo1401 hes JL and yeah hes God
dt is the best
