- Beaufort has seen a lot in its long, colorful life.
This coastal community, established in 1709 and incorporated in 1723, is the third-oldest town in North Carolina (only Bath and Edenton are older). In the three centuries since its founding, pirates, freed slaves, fishermen, and a host of other travelers have all sought shelter in this quiet corner of Carteret County.
Today, some 4,000 people live there year-round; come summertime, this town swells with folks visiting from across the state and around the world.

I was there last week for a job interview for the county. I drove in from New York and i've been to North Carolina before but neve to the coast. This town is picture perfect and I wish I had more time to stay. Its a place I could plant my roots and spend the rest of my days. Its perfect for the history buff or the person who likes to enjoy life.
I still live here, I love it. It’s been 6 years
I was there last Tue, Wed interviewing for a positon with the Dept. of Social Services. I drove in from NY I'm looking to get my family out of here as its been getting too expensive. This town is by far the best I've been to in the whole state. I really enjoyed the people and the town itself its the kind of place I can picture myself being. I can't help but think that the town was gods gift to man its surely a wonderful place.
Sure miss my pals at Finz..😕
We go to Beaufort every time we visit Newport. We love that town.
i swear this town is so pretty
Spent my summer in Beaufort at the Duke University marine lab island and I will always charish my time there. Hope to get back there soon!
The NC Beaufort is charming, just like the SC Beaufort, but nearby Morehead City and its refineries take away from the overall location in NC, but I do like its proximity to Cape Hatteras, and the Outer Banks ferries, which I had taken when I first discovered Beaufort. I do believe both cities were named after the same man, though each place pronounces it differently. The woman guide seemed very friendly, and in some ways, reminded me of Jessica Fletcher and her little village in Maine (Murder, She Wrote). Every small town should have someone like this, who is a walking billboard for the town, and a keeper of its history. Biking is such a good way to see both of these beautiful coastal towns.

Since moving to the Pacific Northwest a number of years ago (2004 to be exact), I have really missed my home town of Beaufort. This video brings back sooooooooo many wonderful memories for me! :-)
