This 1970s film looks at the work of police officers in the Culver City Police Department in California. The film presents the daily life of Officer Bryan -- his home, his family, his involvement in different cases and situations. It was produced by Sid Davis, a prolific filmmaker who spent a career making educational and social guidance films. "Peace is Our Profession" begins with a suspect being arrested (seemingly randomly) while onlookers make up their minds about the situation. This is followed by the start of the day for Officer Bryan, who takes care of his kids before heading out on patrol. The film then follows this cop on his daily routine and the duties he and his partner perform. This includes arresting shoplifters, investigating attempted burglaries and noise complaints, bringing lost children back home, arresting teens for drug possession, and investigating suspects in murder cases. The film ends with the same scene it started with and it turns out that the person being randomly searched matched the description of the suspect. The film seeks to promote a positive image of the police as guardians of peace and order in the city, while also portraying them as paternal figures.

I just love these docs. It’s hard to believe how simple life seemed back than. The internet really changed things. Reminds me of being a kid in the early 70’s.

Anyone that lived in the 70s knows this isn’t the 70s. Looks more like late 60s to me. Yes, there was a difference.

I remember c. 70's those Culver City cops would hide & goof off all night behind Johnnies Pastrami and/or the Culver Ice Rink, both on Sepulveda... for all I know they still do. That dept had a bad reputation for hiring rejects from other cities. It wasn't like the video, all of them had crippling image, integrity & inter personal communication issues... many suspected even internally. Stories of inter department friction, conflicts & poor to nonexistent management/oversight were common. Absolute highlight of the video were background shots of the old 'Rollerdrome'!
Dude, I’m a little younger but I do remember maybe 20 years ago a lot of my buddies who still live there mention a lot about the cops and how they recently had “cleaned up their reputation” or something hahaha. So it’s funny to see this was a real ongoing thing for decades!

It's not a "phenomenon". That's some abstract glorification. There are orders from up high to crush dissent even if its in your borders and they squeal in joy like good piggies before they rob people of their freedoms.
