My order is coming in today! I've watched this video so many times, and I can't wait! It'll be my first time. I'm tired of going to mechanics and them rolling their eyes when something is wrong. I wonder why they became a mechanic if they didn't like the work. Thank you so much!
front brakes and rotors
buy some thread locker, copper anti seize spray, brake caliper grease
1. lug nuts 19mm
2. push back caliper piston
3. 13mm socket and pliers to remove brake caliper bolts
4. remove brake pads
5. 1/2 inch BREAKER BAR - remove caliper bolts and bracket 21mm
6. HAMMER - 1 lug nut to secure rotor, remove rotor
7. ROTARY TOOL / WIRE BRUSH - clean surface of hub that sits against rotor
8. put rotor on, hold in place with lug nut
9. remove slider bolts, clean them off, put new grease
10. use caliper grease where the new brake pad clips go
11. put caliper back on with the two big bolts (126ft lbs torque) use a half inch torque wrench
12. put caliper grease on the ears of the brake pads, do not get any grease on the pads or rotor
13. install new pads. the pad with the wear indicator goes on the inside, the side closest to the piston of the caliper
14. put caliper grease on the parts that touch the brake pads
15. caliper bolts (13mm and pliers) 26ft lbs torque
16. wheel (19mm) 100ft lbs torque
Great video thanks!! Way better than my old man yelling at me for 3 hours
Just a little bit of constructive criticism

I wonder if regular mechanics do all these steps when i take my car for a break job. I highly doubt it. They probably skip all these steps to save time..
Time to do this myself.
Thank you
Great video, I have a 2017 with 82K. It is ready for a first time brake job ! All explanations are very clear and concise, great work !
Great tutorial. The amount of details show how professional he is. Thanks so much. I would like to check out 1A Auto parts.
Thanks so much for the informative video! I was able to complete the front and back brakes for the first time. What a world of difference after!
Well done. Give this man a raise.
I'll be looking to buy some parts from A1 Auto.
Nice vid doing a 2010 now. I used a ultrasonic tool to remove buildup. Then used fluid film to treat the metal before installing new rotors. I test the brake fluid for acid level. So have to bleed it as it's very bad. So will open the rear bleed screws too so it's all fresh. Doing my BooBoo!
very detail on every step. no guessing just do as he say. the most excellent video I can find on youtube
if this dude says prerogative in a car repair video one more time
Love the detail. Especially since most people just do a quick pad slap and send the vehicle out. The only thing I would add clean where the wheel makes contact with the rotor. Add some Never Seize to that part so you might not have a problem with rust and the tire coming off. Also around the spindle where all that white gunk was.
Never seize haha i like that
Great video! I love the attention to detail and explanations. Thank you!
My mechanic mentor is adamant on using anti seize for all bolts and clips...we always clean the hubs...always end up with perfect brakes and never have customers come back...since im learning i will be doing my own brake job on my '16 van...im excited..
It seems like the old rotors might be a good candidate* for turning/resurfacing. Last I checked, NAPA charged $5 or $10 to turn a rotor. The cheapest rotor I can find for my 2009 T&C is $40. $20 to turn the pair vs. $80 to replace them deserves consideration on whether to turn or replace. (EDIT: On 7/22/2023, my local NAPA store charges $15/rotor; O'Reilly charges $30/rotor. So, using NAPA, $30 to turn the pair vs. $80 to replace.) The three or four times I've had my rotors turned, they did not warp before the next brake job. NAPA has, on occasion, refused to turn my rotors because they determined that doing so would make them too thin.
Great video. This is my go-to video when I need to replace the front brakes.
* When you compare the old and new rotors to ensure the new rotors are the right ones, the old rotor appears to be a little taller than the new one, which I'm guessing is due to the corrosion on the surface of the old rotor. I don't know how much turning removes from the surface to get it smooth to spec, so...
Great video very detailed no short cuts. Thanks
well done, glad you put your best man on the job ! I'm going to put my best man on the job in a few minutes. It's 20F and he is procrastinating watching youtube videos about what he should be doing !
Good video. My only concern is how you compressed the caliper.
It may be old school but I prefer to compress the caliper with one or the pads and a c-clamp.
Great video! well explained. Thanks a bunch!
Perfect and Proffessional job ,with all notes 👍
+A Nasser Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1AAuto.com
No A1 auto in our area . my break rotters looked just like the one you took off your vehicle and i took them to O'Reilly's there was enough material left for them to be turned down smooth with a cost saving over replacement.
Great vid! Brakes need to be done by the book and then some!
Nice explanation and presentation!
Many thanks for your teaching, it saves me a lot of money.
Great help. Thank you
very imformative video, i learned a couple of things. thanks
Fantastic video
Thank you. Great video
Hi, I have a 2017 dodge grand caravan. I have had my front rotors turned and replaced several times. The owner of the shop said the front rotors are notorious for warping. The rotors ate less than a year old and I just had them turned last week before going on a trip. I drove 800 miles and the vehicle started shaking while going down steep hills. I was actually very careful this trip and didn't ride the breaker at all. During the last repair the mechanic stated that the only way to permanently fix this problembis to buy cold forged breaks and that they are super expensive. Does this sound right? Thanks for your help.
On my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan front caliper pins, one has a rubber bushing. My question is, does that pin with rubber bushing goes on top or at the bottom? Thanks.
REALLY WAS A GREAT VIDEO
Soooo....in case I missed it in this very informative video, what were the factory pads? Organic, semi metallic or ceramic? The replacement pads, what were they? Organic, semi metallic or ceramics?
why is the brand new rotor thinner than the old one? shouldnt it be thicker since the old ones will be worn or may have been turned down a time or 2 before being actually replaced
Great video, very detailed! The link in the description is not working
+Matt Jones Thanks for checking us out! We apologize the link is not working it appears that the specific kit used in this video is no longer available however we do have other sets available over on 1aauto.com. Simply enter your year, make, model and take a look through our brake listings to find the set you are looking for!
The best vidio ........thanks toooo much
Thanks A1!
After doing this I have a brake light on my dashboard and when I press the brake it goes inches deeper before stopping the vehicle. I don't think it's air in the bake fluid line. Could it be the Piston is not returning pressure to the break pads?
Very good video.

So did you end up just taking the cover off the brake fluid reservoir, or was there some other reason no fluid came out the bleeder screw you pointed out when you compressed the piston? Also worth noting many, if not most, Grand Caravans of this generation have dual piston front calipers which take different size front discs.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. What was the point in taking the cover off?
It should be worthy of knowing that at some point (I wanna say 2013) they switched the minivans to the dual caliper piston brakes.. I ran into this on my dad's journey, so I figured I'd share here justin case you get comments about ThiS DoeSNT WorK On My VaN cuz they got 2013 to present
Which means the pads and rotors and calipers will vary from the single piston to the dual piston versions
+adventureoflinkmk2 Thank you for the feedback and for taking the time to share it!
@@1AAuto you're welcome... trust me, like I said I ran into it on my dad's journey and even did my own show on it awhile back. And for grins and giggles I did research on the minivans as well when I edited my video, since most things for the journey can work on the minivans, and found out.
Hey, I make all the frustrations and mistakes so you don't have to :)
Wonderful video :)
Thank you.
Have a video for the rear brakes?
I really liked the detail provided. However, I can't help but notice you used an air wrench to put the lug nuts back on - often this can damage threads and cause then to be over tightened. When you tighten with the torque wrench it is already clicking because the torque is already past spec.
I say this because this is part of why I started doing my own work was to stop cavemen from using impacts to put on my lug nuts.
I wish I could do my own tires because that is the only time I have to put faith in an underpaid shop tech anymore.
++f0r3v3r+ Thanks for the feedback!
How nice it must be to be able to stand up while doing a brake job. ;-) That's the only thing I hate about this video; I am envious that you don't have to get on your knees to do most of this work.
I’m #967 like
Thanks for this video.
I was about to replace my brakes in less than 30 mins for the front.
Aight!!!
Peace!!!
What size are the bracket bolts
Remember folks! Use the right pin with the right rubber in the right hole.
:-)
Awesome video, but would have loved a little more detail on the clips 23:06
Very disappointed! The system showed which brakes to order, they were wrong. Returned them, no response. 3 weeks later after contacting them again Company refuses to refund saying they are not re-sellable,
why are the rotors the same thickness even know what one is Worn and one isn't?
I'm so glad that I grew up poor, and remained that way most of mine, just saying if I have to get something done, I usually get it on my own, except now I run everything past UA-cam first. I don't care what anyone says about sukaburger, or fakebook. Just remember how honorable UA-cam has been to us all. I have a 2002 caravan with 113,000 miles. Awsnd It's been paid for since the day I bought it in ocala Florida, around 6 years ago. Come to find out that it was in new Orleans for Katrina. Hurricane Katrina . And this nice redhead at Arizona DMV help get the the title, and declared as a lemon. R=re 4
