What loves to munch on your mucus while helping protect you from those pesky plant lectins? You’re about to find out!
If you take probiotics, you may be familiar with common strains like Lactobacillus acidophilus or Bifidobacterium bifidum.
But unless you’ve read my books, like the Longevity Paradox, that tout its amazing properties, you may have not heard about this INCREDIBLE longevity-supporting bacteria!
First identified in 2004, Akkermansia muciniphila - which literally translates to “mucus loving” - is a species of bacteria that helps to maintain our gut lining.
And until now, it’s never been available as a supplement.
Enter Pendulum Life, the first company to offer akkermansia in pill form.
I’m so excited to have scientist Colleen Cutliffe on as CEO and co-founder of Pendulum to tell us all about it.
On this episode we talk about this bacterium’s benefits and why akkermansia is so unique.
*This episode is sponsored by Pendulum Life - however, my opinions on Akkermansia muciniphila are my own.
Thank you to our sponsors! Check them out:
    On this episode you’ll learn:
One of the most exciting discoveries in the history of microbiome research - and how it could help YOU live a longer, healthier life (2:00)
How “leaky gut” develops over time, indications you may be suffering, and why it matters for YOUR longterm health (3:00)
2 key functions missing in most people with metabolic disease - and how this “mucus-loving” bacteria could make ALL the difference (6:00)
Why SNOT is crucial for your health - and the “Goldilocks problem” that puts YOUR health at risk (9:00)
Why probiotic supplements made like THIS are likely to have little to no efficacy - and what to look for on the label (14:00)
One of the BEST ways to monitor your body’s unique tolerability to sugar and protein - and how doing so could give you a better understanding of your overall health (16:00)
Why you could eat just about ANYTHING when you were a kid (and still look and feel great) - and why it doesn't necessarily have to be a thing of the past (17:00)
What farmer’s have taught us about the use of antibiotics - and how having THIS important conversation with your doctor could make a huge impact on your health (19:00)
Why you may be giving too much credit to probiotic yogurt - and why THIS is much more effective for supporting gut health ( 20:00)
The secret to helping your “gut garden” flourish (and the trick to KEEPING it healthy) (23:00)
Why we get “butterflies” when we’re nervous or excited - and how it surprisingly relates to the the early detection and prevention of neurodegenerative disorders (25:00)

A bit more than 2 weeks after starting lectinsfree diet. My hair are stronger, I have much more energy. During last weeks, I was so intoxicated that I could barely run. Now I can run again, and sometimes pretty fast ! My nose and airways are like opening like never. I begin to believe that this process may go so far that in few months, my asthma will fully disappear. I want to thank again Dr.Gundry and his team for their huge work. Helping people with so much generosity is something to be very greatful for. People, if you have asthma or chronic fatigue or weird symptoms, you may should give it a try. This diet is not a joke at all :)

FANTASTIC episode!! Thank you, Dr. Gundry. You couldn't have chosen a better guest and more timely subject. I've read all your books and found this particular subject to be of major value in helping clients; something I need to continue to research.
It's funny to hear Dr. Gundry insist in mispronouncing "Akkermansia" like it's a Spanish word! It's of Greek roots and the accent falls on the 3rd to last syllable. She's the expert here and keeps pronouncing it correctly. Dr. Gundry's Longevity book is a must read, and covers this subject.

Dr Gundry, I have had 3 different gut Biome tests, and in all three tests, they found exactly 0.0% of Akkermansia in my body (compared to a normal 3-4% value). Also, my gut biome diversity was at the 12th percentile which means 88% of the human population has a higher gut diversity than I do.
How do I fix this permanently?
Do I need gut flora transplants from healthy donors?
All my health issues started 15 years ago (at the age of 25) after being given too many antibiotics for a simple sinus infection. Immediately, developed Psoriasis and Arthritis. Have been on your diet and Vitamin D3 for a few years now, I'm much better but still not anywhere near fixed.

As it’s 100% natural, it won’t harm your help.
At worst, you won’t notice much of a difference, if you are already super healthy.
However, for most people, it will considerably improve their health.
Unfortunately, only ships within the US at the moment.

Dr. Gundry, I've been on your plan since January 2021 and have lost 30 lbs. and did it strictly by diet. In the last couple of months it seems I have break out in a rash on my torso, I treated it as a heat rash but that hasn't worked. I then heard about something called "Keto Rash" or Prurigo Pigmentosa, can you tell me if my new diet could be causing the rash? BTW....it itches like crazy. Is there something I can do to get rid of the rash?

What Akkermansia muciniphila likes the best is soluble fiber, now referred to as prebiotics. Yes, you're quite right! Even with a suboptimal vegetable intake, there are plenty of prebiotic fiber supplements in HF stores. Some are excellent.
