Taking a Ride on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railway, Chama, NM - June 20th, 2023

- This week, I share with you my ride along with Mrs. Freak and Freak Jr. on all 64 miles of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO. The footage includes some of the valley scenes, tunnels, trestles, railroad stations, etc. mostly from the open deck gondola car. There is also some bonus footage of watching the crew turn the whole train around on the Chama Wye and going over the Rio Chama.

Yes they did. I live in Denver, I’m only 5 hours from Chama. Been there and rode 484, but raining and cold end of September 2021.

Thanks John! Yeah, they said if we was to go out on the Gondola Car, we need eye protection for the cinders but I found out the hard way, you need sun protection too...lol.

Parlor car allows you to access that open deck on the back, with a beer in hand...lol.
Nice ride Jason, glad you all had a great time. I was picking up a load in Antonito about 15 or so years ago and had a weekend to kill went to the station and they were still close for winter I missed it by 2 weeks UGH, never made it back but still on my bucket list

All of them go through from time to time so they can keep them running.
What was on the menu for lunch?
I honestly don't remember. It was a buffet but I do remember them posting it on their website. Food IMHO was really good and they also had Vegan options for those with food allergies.
So the locomotive in the video is 484 but where is 488, 463 and 489
To my understanding, they are rotated but I'm sure there is more information online.
488 and 463 are in service. 489 is being put back together after getting work on its running gear and a new firepan.
