EVERY time I hear this song, it seems my allergies kick in -- my eyes just fill with tears! This may be, not only the most beautiful Los Lobos song, but possibly one of THE most beautiful songs ever.

When I first heard this song my knees got weak. It seemed I lived this back in the late 1960’s early 1970’s. We had a “Saint Behind The Glass” with a hammer and a nail and a baby in his arms. I remember the curtains blowing ‘round because a window was open and we didn’t have screens on the window. I remember smelling coffee in the air. I remember seeing mom crying as she knelt and prayed. Am I the only one? Did they write this about my childhood? I grew up close to where Los Lobos formed in east Los Angeles.
As a child of a Catholic family I do remember saints behind the glass…..especially my guardian angel over my bed!

Los Lobos is just one of those bands that has quietly made a name for itself...from La Bamba to Nacho Libre and other great movies they have provided awesome songs for the soundtracks....makes this Mexican American proud!!
Why does this song make me cry like a baby? I love it.
Los Lobos are always amazing, but this one captures a set of emotions that is on another level and combines their working class rocking style with tradition in a way that gives me shivers. The lyrics are so mysterious, but they make me think about the course of a life. A friend once told me that her grandfather passed away in the same room he was born in. That's what I imagine when I hear this song. The child grows old, the mother is now the daughter.

I was there. When they brought the harp out it blew my mind. I wanted to fly to the roof and dance on the ceiling during this song. This video is GREAT but it still doesn't capture how great it was to be in the room when this happened

In the hands of anyone other than a Mexican, a harp has an ethereal beauty to it, reminiscent of Heaven itself. However, when played by a Mexican, its sound is suddenly 'humanized', and it speaks of earthly pleasures. The way it's PLUCKED gives it that unique quality, and I swear only a Mexican knows exactly how to do it.

And here's the singer's whole melody: C-B-A, A-B-C. Repeated. That's the entire tune all the way through. It shouldn't be possible to get such a gorgeous song from those simple notes but Los Lobos does. This is one of my favorite music videos.

@@efrenvargas57 de hecho aunque lo canten los lobos, y no se cante en México para ser mas exactos Veracruz, es un son jarocho por la instrumentación veo arpa y hasta me parece que una jarana, creo que ellos buscaron realizar un son jarocho y les salió.
