  • This is my pick for the 9 best guitar amplifiers of all time that I have ever owned! I purchased over 30 amplifiers in 20 years and there are some that stood out far more than the others. I will also explain why I sold the ones I never kept. This list of the best guitar amps is from my own personal experience and all of these I have personally used extensively.

Great list. My journey started with a Bluesbreaker in 1994. I sold it and went through Ampegs, blues deluxe, 1968 Jmp plexi, vox ac15 and nt15 and ended back with the Bluesbreaker. It is perfect for me as a pedal platform. The 1968 JMP50 is the best tone I've ever experienced, however, I feared the cost of a potential repair. So, a long journey and the Bluesbreaker is the destination. Have a great day

Love your channel, love the resources you provide. It’s great to hear from a giga musician when you’re trying to make decisions about equipment. Yeah we all need to go out and just play stuff… But it’s nice to get somebody else’s take before you jump in the car with the checkbook. Thanks again keep the contacts coming!

Shane great video! So I now have a YCV 50 the blue one like you had and the clean channel with the bright switch engaged is one of the best cleans I've heard. Also, Eurotubes Inc has some great tube sets for this amp that people have been raving about. I've been running this amp aby mix with my fender mustang iii v2 and it is absolutely killer. I'll use the second channel with a gain at about 10 o clock or right when it starts breaking up. The Mustang v2 iii I use the 65' Deluxe setting... That setting alone is worth it. The secret I believe to the Mustang if anyone is reading this is on that 65' model go to the second page and play around with the cab settings it will really unlock the eq in that setting.

Thanks for this, Shane. I have a Mustang 3 v2 I use for rock, blues and jazz. Hoping Fender takes all it's learned on its SS amps and beings out a new combined version for NAMM 2021. Meanwhile, holding on to what's working. Appreciate your channel!

Very interesting Shane! I enjoyed my PV Classic 30 but was forever hearing that Fender clean tone in my head. Ended up with a little Mustang II V2 that's great for playing at home, and mic's up well when playing out.

Solid video as always! I own the blues deluxe and its a monster. I even decided to ditch the stock speaker… twice. Both speakers that i chose were killer, g12m -65 creamback , then went to the swamp thang. At first the creamback didnt seem to have that massive low end response so i put that into another amp- but after it broke in the creamback is now easily my favorite speaker, i have 2 of them. One thing i will say about the amp, and keep in mind ive got a bad back, that amp is pretty damn heavy now, especially with the ST. Also- contradictory to what Shane thinks, I really love the drive channel !! I usually put it around noon and hit it with an OD, love it. I have Mesas, and other amps for other flavors of crunch but the blues deluxe has this really unique “fuzzy” drive that is just fun to play!!

Hi Shane, Here in the UK I have owned all sorts on my 50yr tone search. Last year I bought a second hand Fender Mustang head on a whim for next to nowt in a guitar shop. Wow, through my 212 Blackstar cab it is immense, my go to, and, I have never had so many comments on tone. A strange world eh 👍

I’ve always thought the guitar was the most important part of one’s rig and the amp was secondary, however watching this channel over the years, I’ve learned how much it makes a difference! An amplifier can make a huge difference in your tone and even how you approach your playing. Buying my Marshall Vintage Modern was an eye opening experience that really helped me learn how to adjust my tone to what I was looking for and now with my ToneMaster Twin, I have that Fender clean tone that I always wanted. Looking forward, If love to get an Artist Tweed Tone 20 and a 68 Deluxe Reverb but for now the two I have are enough. Thanks for sharing your experience with your amps!! Cheers!🎸🎸🎸🎸

    • @DMSProduktions
      @DMSProduktions 3 роки тому +3

The amp is far more important than the guitar per se. Most pick ups of the same type do not usually sound drastically different to one another, but an amplifier on the other hand, all sound different. They have a far bigger impact on what comes out of your guitar than the guitar itself! Play the same guitar thru 1/2 a doz different amps and see HOW different it will sound!

As a Canadian who has owned many Traynor amps, may I suggest you try to fine the 210 version of the YCV 40. It's a totally different beast than the 112 version. (I had a YCV80 410 combo, now THAT was a beast!)

I started with a Peavey Musician amp (solid state) that sounded pretty good, bought a Marshall 50 watt JMP that just killed but you had to crank it to get the tones. I replaced that with a Fender 5e3 deluxe that gave me the Marshall crunch at lower volume and portability. Now I have a 65 Princeton reverb with two 6v6's loaded with a 12 inch Celestion Alnico Creamback this is just the sweetest amp. It has reverb and tremolo, its portable, works great with pedals gives me fantastic cleans and overdrive. All I need. Im just loving this little thing.

I am new to amps, but I bought the BOSS Katana Mark II Head and run a homemade cabinet with two 12" JBL speakers two 4.5 " Midrange and two 4" Piezo tweeters my brother built. I have three wattage settings, 0.5w, 50w and 100w. To be honest so far I just use it at home. I really like it. I have only used the 0.5 w setting and can play for the neighbors on first floor of my apartment building. I live on the 7th floor so that is saying something and maybe just a little exaggerated but you get the picture. I chose the head instead of the 100w two 12s cabinet model for the convenience of portability. I am at my son's house now. I was house and dog sitting for a few days. It seems very rugged and yet not very heavy. I also like the Katana BOSS Tone studio I run through my computer via usb cable. Hundreds if not thousands(no exaggeration there) of different possibilities for sound changes and a library for downloading more from personal people or companies. It also has the ability to do amp modeling but I don't trust third party software so I steer clear of that feature. BOSS will probably come out with a larger list than I already have. It looks a bit pricey looking but to me it was worth every penny and dollar and hundreds. Sorry for such a long comment just wanted to state all the facts and there are probably some I missed.

I sold and re-bought an Ibanez AS-50 mid size semi from the 80s which I had sold for a surfboard in 1985, a Fender Strat road-worn after having sold one 2 years earlier (I did change to white though), and an ES 335 which I had felt I had to sell to pay off the house in 2007 (and at the time I felt overwhelmed by it, but this has changed due to better playing skill over time). Now I am good. I had sold and have re-bought a Deluxe Reverb but it didn’t do it for my anymore. I do struggle with having flipped my Traynor YCV 50 Blue.

I am an ekectronics tech and tube amp nerd. I recently got a super deal on a mint 2006, Traynor YCV-80, 4x10 combo. 4x5881/6L6GB-GC. I also own a 1993, '65 Fender Twin Reverb reissue with 2x12. 4x6L6GC. The Fender needs no introduction and sounds absolutely wonderful.. I am surprised that I would take the YCV-80 over the Fender as my desert island amp. Especially if I was not allowed any pedals. Only a measured 38.5 watts RMS versus a true 84.6 watts RMS from the Fender, but it absolutely kills for tone and versatility. I won't part with either.

My favorite amps are Ampeg ReverbRocket or a jet, they are both great. My best amp is a Swart, it is kind of like a princeton type amp, but hand wired, the reverb, and the tremolo are the best I have ever heard.

  • @pyroman6000
    @pyroman6000 Рік тому +1

The Supersonic 60 is my favorite amp I've ever played through. In addition to what you pointed out, it also has great spring reverb, and if you push the bassman clean a bit, you get a gorgeous warm bluesy crunch. Of course, it's also ball crushingly loud ( It's a 60 watt Fender, what do you expect?), which is why I didn't buy it. Home player here- this was extreme overkill for that. (and my apartment walls were so thin, if I sneezed, my neighbor would yell bless you!) I can't believe Fender stopped making them...
In second place is the Blues Deluxe. Again, a wicked good clean channel, with the tweedy vibe, that sounds awesome when you push it hard. Takes pedals very nicely, too. (One afternoon, the store happened to have a used Fulltone '69 fuzz pedal, and I tried it with this amp. Just to see how much it had under the hood, I dimed the fuzz knob, and hit an open E chord. The resulting ROAR damn near blew me off my stool! We're talking full on Rawk Gawd territory here!) I use it as an index sound for trying out guitars, if the store has one available.
In third, we have the Peavey Classic 30/Delta Blues amps. Great sounding amps- they can "do" the Fendery clean and crunch thing AND they can do some pretty heavy distortion of their own- no pedals needed. Great spring reverb, and the Delta Blues models have a really nice tremolo, too. Best of all, they didn't cost a lot.
The Dark Horse is Fender's Excelsior. A one trick pony, but it's a real lulu. Very old school vintagey sound- and the tremolo... It was worth the purchase price just for that.
I also give the Mustang III; the Superchamp X2, and the Bassbreaker 15 two big thumbs up, too. The Bassbreaker made me put all my dirt pedals away. Not needed! No fiddly bits- just standard amp controls, reverb, and a gain stage selector. Plug and play. Crank the master, and use your guitar's volume to control the overall volume- and it gives me THAT sound, the one in my head!
Ultimate bucket list amp: A brownface Deluxe or Pro amp. See Johan Segeborn's video about the series to hear why. Or an actual 59 bassman.

The Marshall DSL40CR is definitely in my top tier of amps I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few. It's so dynamic, so diverse, and actually sounds like a Marshall unlike it's predecessor (the non CR version). I'm way more of a Blackface Fender kind of guy (and the SS60 actually does the cranked Twin thing very well), but every now and again you just wanna plug into something that grunts and barks like a wild animal. That CR has the 80s Marshall thing in spades and with a little goosing from a good OD pedal, it is nearly indiscernible from the JCM I own. Even the stock speaker is really good imo. I actually like the brightness it has, but I also never raise the presence above 0.
Anyway,I'll shut up about it now but I'm glad you appreciated the amp enough to get one Shane. It's probably the best amp Marshall has put out in some time. The Origin is cool, but the CR can do that too, along with so many other things.

I have a Studio Pro Plus 35 play it through a 2x12 with vin.30's. When it's time to load up for a gig it's a hard choice between it and my old Super Reverb; usually it's the one I've been playing through lately. Have run them together and makes a sweet duet, but a lot of weight to carry around.

I had my hands on a 40w Traynor YBA head
It was single channel, loud and modified by the previous owner so that the preamp was more like one from an OR-50.
It didn't really do clean but if you dial your volume on the guitar down it did clean up but love having drive pedals into it.
This amp was biased hot and chewed up cheap power amp tubes like nothing else.

Add this to the contender list: I just got one of those new model Fender Pro Reverbs w/ a Neo Creamback. It's my new #1 - Tone like my Twin, weight like my Blues Jr, and its 40 watts can do any medium room w/o a mic. If I need more power, I guess I could go stereo with the Bjr, but its about as loud as I ever ran my Twin anyways, so it may be my desert island amp.
I also have the Vox AC15C1. As it came stock w/ Greenbacks, it always sounded terrible to me, so I added a 150 watt Tonkerlite and swapped out 12AX7's with 5751's in the gain circuits, which cleaned it up, made it lighter and louder before breakup and tamed the shrill top end. Still not a top 9 contender though, maybe an honorable mention.

Gotta say, my fav amp has been and will prob always be the Fender Twin. I know, I know. But for my pedalboard and, and for a single coil player...it sings. Got balls, and its super touch responsive. A lil scoopy, but but for rhythm it slays and TS for leads...well, I've come full circle and back to the twin.

I also bought a Fender Blues Deluxe (reissue) but the emulation on the Mustang V2 is so good, also in low volume that I prefer to take the Mustang also because I have no good working pedalboard. Without pedals I can't really get the sound out of the Fender Blues Deluxe were I am after and at home I can't kook the valves but found a solution to that that I still have to try

I gig with a Traynor YCV-40 with JJ tubes and Vintage 30 upgrade. Clean channel is good. I dime the gain and use guitar volume to get the right rhythm tone. Great for Classic Rock. Then the Boost will bring you into a hard rock / metal range. Get into 70's Van Halen and Judas Priest. Takes pedals great.
I gig with the volume just under 2. Sounds great. Beyond 2, the drummer will ask me to turn down.
They are bargain used in Canada. $300 range. Almost $1000 new. They aren't heavy to carry.

For home I've been using a 5w all tube head ( UK Subzero 5w head) with a 1x10 celestion closed back cab and I love it for home use. Simple controls so you don't need to be a rocket scientist to use like the new combos. My only gripe is only one channel and no FX loop. All total in price was around £160ish but most of that was the cab ( both second hand but mint condition) what's your thoughts?

This may be freeky, but I can tell you with ease the best BASS amp I ever had... and it wasn't even a bass amp. It was a guitar amp.... a Yamaha solid state 2x12 combo G100-212II. It had a parametric EQ on it and if you dial it down to the lowest frequency with the widest Q, and plugged the amp into a pair of 15" speakers... WOAH. The BEST bass tone I ever had with a Fender P-Bass (1978)... and I found it due to emergency necessity because of other equipment failure. Warm, fat, spanky, instantaneous response that bloomed. I miss it. It was sorta quiet tho since it was only 100 watts, but a Countryman DI between amp and speaker for the PA was absolute beauty incarnate at shows.

I have a Wilder half stack that I got from a friend who’s grandfather had it in storage for decades. I think it was made in 1970. It has a rotating horn in it. It still works! Any thoughts about Wilder amps? I tried to find info about it, and there is hardly anything out there. Do I have a rare gem? Or is it nothing really special?
