  • See how to change the Spark Plugs on a 2014 Ford C-max SEL Hybrid. I believe all years from ‎2013-2019 have the same Engine. I've used the OEM Motorcraft Spark Plugs here at around 100K miles. If you have any questions, leave a comment here.

    I like your Craftsman socket wrench. It sounded like the one I bought and still use 53 years and going strong. Wrench, sockets, two screwdrivers and a pair of pliers cost $17.00. (In a permatex case.
    Thanks for video. Now changing the air filter won’t be a daunting task. 😊

    Asked the local oil change place how much to do spark plugs, ballpark was around $200.00 plus. $40.00 for parts $160.00 for labor, No way. Thanks for this video.

    Thanks for the video. Watched it right before doing work and changing plugs & air filter took about 90 minutes. Hardest part was getting the housing back on- you were correct in the rubber grommets being difficult. One thing that made the job easier was a 5/16" deep socket for the two outside cylinders in removing the ignition coils- watching you struggle with open ends was a little painful. Everything else went as planned and change out was smooth. Great job

    Thanks for the very helpful video. I just changed the spark plugs on my 2016 CMax Energi. Quick and easy. For those wondering, you need a 9mm socket, a deep 8mm socket & spark plug socket, that's it. Local mechanic quoted $150 labor + parts so it was big savings doing it myself. Also, no need to disconnect lead to spark plug boot.

      @@Blztrls Thank you so much! I've just got one more question if you don't mind.. at 0:45 he mentions a red tab and removing the connector but the next clip shows the connector still attached. I couldn't get mine to separate; is it supposed to, or is moving the red tab enough?

    • @Blztrls
      @Blztrls 2 роки тому

      @@avja1141 you need to disconnect the wire after pulling up the red tab or it will get in the way of removing the air filter cover. You can remove the pipes first before removing the wire which is what he was doing which is why it is still there. If it feels stuck you might need to lever it up with a screwdriver.

    There is no need to disconnect the electrical lead to the spark plug boot. There is room to lift the boot out and lay it out of the way without risking braking perhaps a brittle connector lock.
    You will need a deep well 8mm on the #1 and #4 coil bolt. A 5/16 works too as it it almost the same size as 8mm.

    I bought a used 2013 CMax Hybrid SEL (No plug-In) in 2021.
    So far it is only getting 29 to 33 MPG overall.
    New plugs, New oil, New air filter, Good tires, Average miles.
    The gas engine kicks in a lot more than I thought it would below 40 MPH and I don't push it hard to go or stop. Last owner bought it new and was a little old lady. It seems to be in great condition and I like the car and how it drives except for the way it brakes it takes getting used to and the MS Sync / radio system had to be rebooted by pulling a fuse as it had stopped working. She even wrote a note about this problem in the owners manual.
    Any suggestions as to how I can get my MPG up ? I tried premium gas and fuel injector cleaner all ready with minimal results.
    All in all I am content with MPG as my 2012 4x4 Jeep only averages around 12 to 14 MPG.

      Seems like these cars get worse with the gas mileage as they get older. I noticed a drop of MPG when I got new tires. I didn't get the original ENERGYs from Michelin, maybe that makes a difference. The brakes act different because when you hit the brakes first you actually brake just with the Motor to regenerate the battery. I have 115 000 miles on mine and still original brake pads and disc.
      Only thing that I could think of, is maybe the battery getting weaker with age.
      Do you have the recommended 40 psi on your tires?

      I notice when I go on trips and am driving on flat land I get less miles. I bought mine used, and now I am at 95,000 miles. I get 43-46 miles per gallon going to and from work. I live in a really hilly/ mountain area, so every time I go down I am charging. I don't think these cars would be good for someone who lives In a flat area. I have also had to pull my fuse a couple times, I keep a stock of 15 Amp blue mini fuses in my console, lol. I also had a jeep grand cherokee that got around 18 miles on 4 Lan and 12 on the norm. Feels Like I got a raise from not having to buy so much gas.

      The tires definitely have something to do with it. My 2017 CMAX has 120,000 mi still with the original brakes and rotors. I do my own air filter and I'm now looking to change the plugs. I see it's not that complicated. When I bought Goodyear 80,000 mi tires my miles per gallon went down slightly to about 37 or 38 mi a gallon. The hybrid tread compound and high pressure is how you will average over 40 miles a gallon. I specifically run 42 lb in each tire so you get a rough ride on rough roads but really good gas mileage. If you drop to the required 38 PSI, your miles per gallon will drop, but you'll have a smooth ride. I love this car. Everyone I ever met that had one loves it. Not sure why Ford stopped selling them

      Bought mine 4+ yrs ago with 78k miles, touching on 150k now. I’m tackling this after getting the supplies. Done oil changes every 5k miles since I drive so much for work. I’ve changed tires once to the Kumho exsta on sale. I bough the car with 2 sets of wheels from the previous owner. Snow and all season tires. I have never dropped below 47 mpg. I’d wager there is something with you battery for you do drop to the 30s.

    Spark plugs were changed in my 2013 cmax hybrid sel but my engine light is still on my dash. But the codes were for the spark plugs. Do I need to reset it for the engine light to go off if so how?

    • @TheFrankman711
      @TheFrankman711  4 місяці тому

      The shop who changed the plugs should have reset the light. You would need a OBD scan tool and maybe the free software "FORSCAN" to reset it yourself. Or you you could go to an autoparts store and ask if they can do it for you.
