      An allied invasion of Germany in 1939-40 just wasn't feasible it would have been a desperate move.
      The allies had zero offensive advantage over Germany. Germany had 4 fighting age men for every 1 french. In such demographic circumstances defensive strategems are preferable.
      If you want to truly blame someone blame Belgium for pulling out of the alliance with Britain and France, or blame Britain and France for allowing Germany to remilitarise the Rhine land which led to the aforementioned Belgian neutrality.

    How serious was the non-actions of France and Great Britain?
    According to the German General Jodl at the Nuremberg War Trials he said:
    “ *if we did not collapse already in the year 1939 that was due only to the fact that during the Polish campaign, the approximately 110 French and British divisions in the West were held completely inactive against the 23 German divisions* ”

    • @annoyingbstard9407
      @annoyingbstard9407 2 роки тому +1

      Two points: firstly Poland was not seen in very good light in the West having joined forces with Hitler and helped the Nazis invade Czechoslovak just a few months earlier. Many thought we should not be helping them when their former “friends” turned on them, and secondly the British Expeditionary Force never got into position on the Belgian border until the end of October - by which time Poland was defeated.

    No wonder Poland has trust issues

    • @paulzuk1468
      @paulzuk1468 5 років тому +56

      The problem was, like is common in alliances, a lack of clear understanding of mutual capabilities.
      Poland's mobilization system was rather obsolete in 1939 ; We were unable to conduct a large part of the mobilization process in secret.
      However, France and Great Britain could accomplish that, and assumed that Poland could as well. "Delaying mobilization" for France and GB was not that big a deal, as they simply delayed the final step of the process a bit, which was not logistically intensive nor particularly complex and combat units would've achieved most of their readiness already.
      For Poland, however, delaying mobilization was a crippling blow ; The western allies did not understand this fact, and thus thought pressuring Poland to delay mobilization was worth the risk, seeing as the potential payoff was preserving peace on the continent.
      And of course after 1938 and the partitioning of Czechoslovakia, Poland was actually quite unpopular in the West and had very little political capital in Paris and London, so people weren't particularly inclined to listen.

      Plus the West probably was very happy that Stalin and Hitler DID bleed each other out so much... just not enough to get rid of the SU afterwards. Don´t forget that the Entende already interveened in the russian civil war and tried to destroy communism before it could really start, interfering in internal, russian affairs for selfish reasons!

    Fun fact. Carol II of Romania asked the Polish government if they wanted the Romanians to enter the war on their side, but the Polish government refused saying that the Polish army and government needed a safe retreat passage and, if Romania entered the war, the Luftwaffe would've bombarded the Romanian infrastructure and it would've been impossible for the Polish army and government to retreat. The Polish government and army fled in Western Europe via Romania, and many Polish refugees established themselves in Romania. This angered Hitler badly. Maybe that's why he decided to force Romania to give Northern Transylvania to Hungary. Also, the Polish treasury was kept safely in Romania, at the Tismana Monastery until the end of the war.

    The Poles were sold out on so many levels.....thank god for the Polish efforts on the Enigma machine, which saved the Allies. Without Britain cracking the codes of the Enigma machine, which the Poles had started, this program would probably be in German. We owe the Poles a great debt, those airmen and soldiers who escaped fought bravely as pilots in the Battle of Britain, and later in capturing Monte Cassino in Italy. They rarely get the credit they deserve.

      Not really a lie.
      Before the idea of a unified german nation, there were many settlers from North Germany to what is known as the Baltic area. Germans settled there for a few centuries, and the polish seeing the threat of a germanic state right above their borders sent the Crusaders (later naming themselves as the teutonic order) to slay these germans.
      Well... it all happened around 800 years ago so I don't think that counts.

      @@CheddarMannn W ostatnich latach powszechne jest zjawisko polityki historycznej która ma na celu wybielenie niektórych krajów takich jak np niemcy.
