***IMPORTANT*** I can't believe I forgot to mention this final point: In areas where deep pockets exist, waves that are built up with a “crest”- the white break on top- beyond the deep pocket, will lose their crest and become mellow or clean with “wind ripples” on the surface. You can see this happening in the last clip and the first clip very clearly. I'm so sorry I forgot to mention it and I hope you guys see this comment. This is because the wave loses its “footing” as the sand levels dip down into the trough, therefore, dropping the wave causing it to lose its crest.
Thanks for the advice I've never seen anybody say anything like this before or describe it the way you did thank you for the awesome fishing tips had a great time because I listened and followed your video much appreciated thank you bro

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, as there is always something new that one can learn ! Sharing knowledge is a very noble trait, so hats off to you sir !!
Great video. Most others give video from overhead. I was looking for one showing reading the surf from the beach view. Also want to find out how to see a cut from the beach view. Great job, thanks!
Forsure try to go during a peak low tide. I had kept trying to read the surf at other tides and it was hard to distinguish. I think it is easier because you can go directly into them at low tide then wait for the tide to come in to see what it looks like. Feels good to catch fish in a structure you previously scouted.
You don’t want wind. Basically anytime the surf is lower than 3-4 ft, you could be able to pick out structure. Calmer conditions are best for surf fishing
@@surffishinginsocal so wind do not affect waves is that correct? sorry I'm kinda new to this thing so everything I go out to my local beach, I just can't read it..
Is this at low tide? at high tide it is difficult to tell the diff because the waves can be big and every thing looks the same. I fish in oceanside/ carlsbad and there the beach is steep going in and the surf gets big- hard to tell the difference. - Should I look for flatter areas of the beach where I can diffirentiate the deeper pockets/trough areas? - should I still be concentrating on 2 hrs before/after high tide? thanks for the info!- love your website-great info!
So the video was a few different clips from different days so some were at high tide, others were low. But most of the beaches were on the flatter side of things. I know what you mean with the Oceanside are being a shorebreak. With that, it’s a little tougher to see but it should still be distinguishable. I think it’d be beneficial to take a look at some flatter beaches to get a grasp as they’re a little more beginner friendly. The two hours before and after rule is an interesting one that I just don’t follow. I fish any tide. If it’s a dandy beach, I’m confident to show up whenever, find the srructure, and fish it. If it’s a rocky beach I know where the structure is and fish it when it’s submerged. Hope this helps! Let me k ow of you have more questions.
Oh man I don’t know. I stick with Matt black because no reflection helps to keep spots secret😂 but I would imagine best bet is in sunglasses with max clarity and max polarization with minimal glare

What’s that in the water if you look really closely about three or 4 feet right in front of you off to the right there’s something starting to come up out of water and then goes back down
The explaining was good enough but you can easily lose the listener early on without that extra "point to it" moment. Maybe if there were a bit more pause and arrow graphics or at least "finger to the point" it would really help out what was being verbally described...(it came very late in the vid)...good video tho :D
Haha in one of the clips there was a rip near the right side, but I didn’t feel it was significant enough to talk about without confusing people as it wasn’t crazy definitive. I’ve also been one to lean way towards fishing troughs and holes over rips in general. I think if it’s good enough a hole and definitive and unique enough in comparison to the terrain around it, it’ll hold all the good aspects of a rip while providing structure too. Kinda make sense? Not saying troughs aren’t good too, they are for sure. I just think troughs and holes are better🤷♂️
@@surffishinginsocal as a bait guy, rips are really super important to me, especially if I am chumming through a tide.
