You're a fantastic teacher - my 8yo son learned this today and played it for his drum teacher. His teacher was impressed, and showed him how to play with the rhythm. Thanks!!

I have played this groove, but i used one hand on the hi-hats and the other on the snare...i got if down pat...i was only about 13/14 yearz old...i had a little band and since i could play all the instruments i had to teach everyone what to play...real talk...im now a music teacher

Not a big UA-camr, but a drummer and USM Alumni. Ironically, I also handle all of Ziggy's PR and Marketing. This year marks 45 years since the release of The Cissy Strut. Thanks for doing it justice!

One of my favorite grooves. I picked it up by ear, using 1 hand on hats. I saw he used 2, and it really came alive to me. A great groove to sound check to, as ya gotta be relaxed to make it sound good. He raises the hats on the ah of 2 ever so dirty

By far the best demo of Cissy Strut I've seen on youtube - or anywhere. Helped me actually learn a groove which has eluded me for ages. Totally dig the presentation - beat explanation, humor, etc. You're a great teacher!

Great sounding groove man, theres sooo many different ways to play this.I like to play off beatt 8th notes with the right hand whilst throwin in the odd 16th with the left hand. When ive seen Zig do it he kind of plays hand to hand 16ths missing out certain notes and accenting others.Every "known" drummer you see doing it have there own way too.

  • @chochemerlyn

The only thing I found was it helps to approach it more as if you were playing 16th notes on the hi-hat and hitting the snare with the right hand (if right handed), and just leave some notes out, only accenting the correct notes. By stacking the hi-hat (left hand) on top of the snare (right hand), it gives it a more loose open handed feel, though I sometimes like to leave the snare on 2 by itself. You sound great though, and got the right swampy feel... I was just describing how zig does it.
