  • Note: Muang can mean a city, capital or center city which was the center of government, city-state, kingdom, depending on what the context is.
The Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon era was considered by most historians to exist from 802 to 1431 AD or Buddhist Era of 1345 to 1974. In fact, the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon era has ended since the rebellion which rose in by the slaves in 1336 AD or Buddhist Era of 1879 by reason of the following:
    1. The new king who ascended the throne of the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon after the rebellion had ended was not descended from Warman dynasty of the Khom Empire, but his parents were herded from Champa Kingdom to be enslaved in the capital of the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon. After having been grown-up, he worked as a head gardener in the royal garden and became the head of the slaves rising in rebellion at the time. After having ascended the throne of the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon, he was called "King Traa Sawk Praa Aem".
King Traa Sawk Praa Aem is the first Khmer king mentioned in the Cambodian Royal Chronicles written by Naak Ong Aeng who was crowned as king to rule Cambodia Kingdom by the name of “Som Dej Praa Narai Rama Tib Bodi Sri Suriyo Pan Borom Surin Tara Maha Chakra Pat Raj Borom Nat Bo Pit, Jao Krung Kaam Pu Cha”.
    2. It can be noticed that, from King Traa Sawk Praa Aem onwards, the king’s name has not had the ending “Warman” anymore, indicating that all the subsequent kings were not descended from the kings of the Warman dynasty of the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon.
    3. From King Traa Sawk Praa Aem onwards, no stone castles were constructed anymore.
    4. From King Traa Sawk Praa Aem onwards, no stone inscriptions in Sanskrit language were constructed anymore.
    5. From King Traa Sawk Praa Aem onwards, there were only slaves herded from the Champa Kingdom and black-skinned native people whom were called “Khmer” in Muang Praa Nakhon being people under the rule. There were no longer original Khom or Siam people left in Muang Praa Nakhon.
    6. There were no longer original Khom or Siam people of the ruling class including the descendants of the royal family, the noblemen and the governing officials, military officials left in Mueang Praa Nakhon. Some were killed by the slaves, however, most of them were able to escape safely from Muang Praa Nakhon to Muang Supana Poom.
    7. All city-states/kingdoms, which used to be controlled by the Khom Empire of Praa Nakhon, freed themselves as independent city-states/kingdoms.
    8. Sixteen years later in 1352 AD or Buddhist Era of 1895, the Ayutthaya Kingdom which was established in 1350 AD or Buddhist Era of 1893 was able to capture Muang Praa Nakhon which was then ruled by a Khmer king. It was clearly noticed that the Kingdom of Praa Nakhon in post-Praa Nakhon period was not the same powerful as the former Khom Empire.
The rebellion ended with the victory of the slaves. The head of the slaves, who was crowned as king, was descended from Cham, not Khmer people. Hence the new king was likely to appoint the Cham slaves to be governing officials in Muang Praa Nakhon. As for the Khmer, they would probably be people under the rule as ever. Thus, the Kingdom in the post-Praa Nakhon period should have been called “Cham Kingdom”.
No matter what it had been called, the Kingdom of Phra Nakhon in the post-Phra Nakhon period later became a vassal state of Ayutthaya Kingdom, Thonburi Kingdom and Rattanakosin Kingdom successively totaling 3 periods for more than 400 years due to the fact that the Khom or Siam people who survived the rebellion came to establish Ayutthaya Kingdom in the area of Thailand.
