Way to go Seiko, after I lost my original "Arnie" jet skiing in the late eighties, I've been waiting for the return ever since. The best scuba watch I had ever owned and I owned a few, and yes, 100's of dives in the keys and Miami throughout the 80's.
Plus the films that he did. & the film he wore his Seiko watch 1. Commando 2. Raw Deal 3. Predator 4 The Running Man plus he wore a G-Shock II in the film after his character fakes his death on live TV. 5. Twins
I have an original that I bought in the Mid 80's as I started SUCBA sport diving. Still works fine, just new batteries, I may just need to get the new one, being solar would be great!
That Arnie is so cool!! BUT I really don't need another diver style watch, so I'll pass. I don't need it.... I don't need it.... I don't need it.... I don't need it.... Dang! I want it...
That's awesome that the Analogue synchs with the Digital!! The original H558 doesn't do that. I've been wearing my H558 daily for 30 years, but I think I'm getting one of these!!
I'm pretty pleased with the size for what it is. I own a pre-Arnie (H556-5029) that I got new back in around 1983 and it's a bit too dainty for my taste now so looks like I'll be getting one of these new ones in a few months most likely.
Nice watch, my only Seiko is a 46 mm solar 100 m of water resistance but it doesn't have a screw-in crown I've had it for about 6 years now and it's still running strong with the original battery.
@R A, good to know. Frankly, I am not a fan of Arnold's films. Anyway, we have digressed from the point that the watch is just not my style. Too big and ugly for my taste. If that is your style, kudos to you.
@R A, let me ask you a question because you come across as open- minded. I served in the Marine Corps. Why is it when fan boys spout their patriotism, they buy watches from war movies, not the actual watches that were popular with the troops at the time?
@R A Perhaps you should contact Google. They list Arnold's wrist size as 7.5. My wrist is the same size and I think the watch is too big and thick. "Can" size))))
Hey; Thanks Rob. I'd been waiting for the release of this watch and here you have it in the flesh. I saw the discount from Mimo and placed my order. Great deal for a watch that just came out!!! Thanks again to you and to Mimo. By the way Mimo's has a really good deal (discount) on a couple Hamilton's that I like too.
Finally, a combination of analog diver and digital watch. I can use the bezel and stopwatch for everything. This might make me put my gwb5600 on shelf.
Have had mine a few months, non Padi, didn't want one. Blsck with white lettering snd markers. Good phone, love wearing it. I did get the JDM version, they're all made in China, should have went with Marc at Long Island, of which he was sold out at the time. Only thing I think missing and really should have been included would have been the capability of use of the Atomic Clock. Most feature laden quartz watches of this type include it. Not a deal breaker but would have been a nice touch.
Super cool. I'm sure it will be very hot and sell out quickly in a lot of places. Thanks for the first you look at this new Seiko. I am a little surprised that I can do as much as you can being a solar powered watch. But, I'm certainly not objecting to that.
Hey Rob,Would i think it would be right up your alley if you did a review on the Citizen Eco Drive Titanium Blue Orca-BN0016-55L.It reminds me of the second generation SEIKO monster but a Citizen
A few comments: 1. Really interesting that there is no obvious solar cell showing on the watch face?! I wonder where it is housed... 2. I really dig the fact the analog hands don't impede visibility of the digital display - that is one of the only gripes of my Mudmaster 3. Will be interested to know if it has a multi time zone option akin to my beloved G-Shock square 4. Looks great on your wrist, very appropriate sizing. Thanks for the video brother!
Rob is the TUNA CAN surround made from plastic or a stronger material? I thought the point was to protect the watch, but as know I am know Seiko Master...but have been considering buying a Seiko Tuna as I love the look of them, just been deciding which model. Just bought two Seiko Monsters, so I have finally joined the current vintage of Seiko models, so I am now part of the club, as opposed to only having vintage pieces from the 70's.
in my eyes, the hour hand is not align properly. looks a little bit forward even the minutes hand still not reach 12 o'clock position (thumbnail picture)
EyKin Huang There are instructions in the user manual for aligning the hour and minute hands. Unfortunately, I have one with a misaligned seconds hand and that cannot be corrected. Par for the course with Seiko, I guess.
Rob, it looks like it had a plastic stroud or tuna can...as you know I am no Seiko expert but about to buy one as I love the look...but isnt the point of the tuna can to protect the surround of your watch?
I hope these come down a little bit on price in time for the holidays, probably going to replace my SNE498 with one of these. (would not have bought the SNE498 had I known this was coming).
Can I aslo ask, how loud is the alarm on this watch. The reason why i ask is that these days the alarms on watches are useless, and that includes the casio. I used to have a casio dw2000 which would wake me from another room, todays casios dont even wake me even if its sitting on the bedside draws next to me.
Hey Rob, with your contacts can you find out weather seiko will ever re-issue the silver wave solar watches of the 70s ??? VINTAGE SEIKO LCD A258-5000 A2 in particular, im dying to get this one.
Alright i just ordered mine, in standard black and white. Thanks for pushing this to the front of the line much appreciated. Wish it was not made in china but what can you do.
Bought the black and stainless steel version and I’m very happy with it. Got the feeling the arnie watch doesn’t do a lot for you rob? Anyway great vid as always.
Seiko, just like the rest of the Swiss watch industry, has TOTALLY sold out to the mighty dollar. Disgusting. Don't even think about modern day examples, try to source out vintage possibly but seriously that supply has all dried up now. I'm scouring eBay regularly and over the past year I can hardly find really interesting decent examples anymore.
gmshadowtraders I understand your sentiments. The problem is that quartz watches (such as the original Seiko Arnie) are a little more risky when vintage... The quartz module/IC failure rate increases as time goes on, and finding a replacement may be very hard.
I kinda think they could have done more for this rerelease? They could have have gone with a Sapphire Crystal, 300 meter ISO rating, and made in Japan?
@@davenolan5709 I am hoping that there is a special edition that is at least made in Japan one day..I can live without the 300m WR and sapphire crystal, but I would be very nice to have those also!
Why doesn't any call the casio analog/digital an arnie? He wore on in kindergarten cop.... anyway great review, dont think I'll be waiting in a line for it.
I would think that most watch collectors would want the same colorway worn by Arnie... It also happens to be the same watch and colorway worn by James Cameron before he started wearing Rolexes.
The only thing good to come from a lifetime of living with popeye like arms and 8.25” wrists. Finally a watch made for the guys who always get asked when there’s a heavy object to lift.
Okay I’m desperate, I purchased the snj027 arnie from a dealer on Amazon. As soon as the sunlight hit the watch it completely factory resets, it happened every time I was in the sun, returned it and got the same watch, now the same thing!! Has anyone had this issue?? And if so what did yall do to fix it or get one that doesn’t glitch?
It's a known issue with many SNJ0xx watches manufactured in 2023. The only "fix" I've seen is getting Seiko warranty service on the watch - they replace it with one manufactured before or after the defective ones. In case you don't know how to read the manufacture date, the first 2 digits of the serial number are the year and month, respectively. For these "Arnie" watches, the first digit, 9=2019, 0=2020, 1=2021, etc. The second digit is the month: 1-0 =Jan-Oct, respectively, N=Nov, D=Dec. The remaining 4 numbers are a unique production number for that watch.
Just too big for both your wrist and mine. I guess we'd have to be as big as Arnold to wear such a beast))) While I was on active duty in the Marine Corps, my Marathon got the job done. Semper Fi

Love how the hands do not block the digital display. Wish other combos had this layout. Great looking watch
Hey Seiko Arnie, remember when I said I would buy you last?
I Lied!
This one will help you get to the CHOPPA on time.
The watch is just like Arnie himself. Big, chunky and definitely has presence.
I got mine yesterday and I love it.
Plus the films that he did. & the film he wore his Seiko watch
1. Commando
2. Raw Deal
3. Predator
4 The Running Man plus he wore a G-Shock II in the film after his character fakes his death on live TV.

He wore the Seiko in all of those?
Only The Original H558.

That watch is huge. It dwarfed your wrist. I have a 7 1/4 wrist and I can clearly see that it would be too big for me. Thanks for sharing.
