My only complaint with the bots is that they inexplicably changed all their names a couple months ago? It used to be incredibly easy to see who is and who is not a bot at a glance with names like "Procyon" and "Gemma" and "Altair" and now they've all got names that, at a glance, might pass for actual gamertags. Why? To prevent people from going out of their way to farm bots? The bots are still gonna play like bots regardless of their names. Dying late in the match when there's only 2 or 3 tanks left and realizing that the rest of your "teammates" are bots and knowing that your game is going to be a defeat is a horrible feeling.
I love bots. Many times bots are smarter compared to many many players. Another thing without bots you might never gets in to match. Not enough players.
The bot issue is solely WGCB’s fault. Had they not driven away the game’s experienced veteran players over the last 4-5 years with such abominations such as Mercenaries, Update 4.6, WWE, HotWheels, and Update 6.0 … we wouldn’t need bots in the first place. At this point, it’s obvious that the game still hasn’t recovered from 6.0 and it’s been almost 3 years now. The player numbers are still dwindling or remaining stagnant. The bots are here to stay - that’s the sad reality of this game right now. It’s honestly embarrassing.
How do you think that they could fix the game? I joined around 3 months ago so I don’t really know nor understand the controversy behind all the previous updates.
@@robert.m6755 it’s a long, long story that would probably take me at least a few hours to ramble on about. Simply put, in the first 3-4 years of the game’s existence, Console was pretty much on pace with the mainstream PC version of the game (it was practically the same game, but optimized for Console). Around early to mid 2018, the Console Devs decided to theoretically “sever” their ties with PC and wanted to go down their own path. It was this decision that has led to the game becoming a shockingly pathetic shell of its former self. Ever since, it’s been nothing but a parade of awful decisions that eventually eclipsed with Update 6.0 in December of 2020. 6.0 pretty much doomed Console for good, and now it’s only a matter of time before this game goes completely under. I suggest watching a few Update 6.0 reaction videos so you can see how much this game changed on that fateful December Tuesday.

The thing with bot games is that there are still at least 4-5 actual players in them anyway, and the way players play means there is a very high chance that you will encounter them first; so to even start ''bot farming'' you still usually need to deal with 1-2 real players at the beginning which means you will only have around 1/4 hitpoints left before you actually encounter the bots, and the bots are a lot more aggressive now, I had one chase me over 1/4 of the map just to finish me off whilst I was trying to run away, there was nothing I could have done against them since they were on full health and era 3 bots just pen you anyway.
A few things on this. First, the issue of bot presence in games is almost entirely limited to Cold War. I often play at off-times for the EU server and every Cold War era will have 5-10 bots per team on average. WW2 on the other hand almost never has any bots in games above tier 4 during the same time. Folks are disillusioned if they think Cold War is more popular than WW2. It is not, never has been, and never will be. The concern for me is that Cold War becomes so unpopular that Wargaming scraps any further development. Folks have to be realistic - the reason there are bots in the game is because there aren't enough people playing the game. This will only get worse as the game continues to age - its just part of the normal lifecycle of a game.
The issue isn't that people are farming bots. The issue is that people have spoken and WG doesn't care. They developed retarded tanks and game modes against players wishes. Those people leave and are replaced by bots. The fact that bot games are really only a problem in Cold War tells you everything you need to know about that game mode. And yet WG persists with that dumpster fire. Also, WWII WN8 should be separate from Cold War WN8.

I dont mind bots every now and then. I dont see them that often at the hours I play The biggest issue imo is the amount of ....lets say not so experienced players playing higher tiers to soon and those bot farmers that "cheat" their way to 3rd marks and ruining the game that way.
OK…”returning veteran” here…uninstalled the game 3 years ago after the abomination of Update 6.0…saw that they’ve brought back the garage, fixed the HUD….it looks a lot like the original game I remember. This Campaign in Warships is boring, so I reinstalled, and gave it a go… In Warships, you only get bots by selecting the “vs. AI” mode…my first games back, I got a free Mission or whatever, by winning 10 games in Co-op mode…so I selected Co-op, WWII, and got other players…which was fine, I had fun…. But my question is this: how do you recognize the bots? In Warships, they use obvious names, preceded by a colon, so it’s obvious. I only saw real names, I thought…I just figured no one was playing Co op, and so after a certain time, the matchmaker just put me into a Multiplayer lobby…?
If WOT Console had consistently enough players playing the game, then bots wouldn’t be necessary. Maybe they should do away with Co-op mode to combine the player base to minimize bots.

Re Bots in 2023 WG seem to have a new unpublished "Grand Design" for Bots. So my issue lies with people targeting high bot lobbies, I am an average skilled tanker I would like to think above average but hey. Now I am a typical 40yr old man who has played the game for over 7yrs. Now to the point I only get a few hours in the evening to play and improving my MOE for NY favourite tanks has got harder since people now target times that bot lobbies have a higher percentage and then farm bots to improve there stats. Well weldone you have now made it so hard for me to improve my marks making the process and marks on my barrelled pointless since you have cheated the system and moved the scales in your favour to get higher damage games against a predictable bot and then farming them. I quit immediately and move to another game (R6S) at the first sign of a bot. Cold War mode is by far the worse and I avoid it like the plague. Total garbage and I play less and less because of the bots. CW was a huge mistake.
I think also the problem is console has had zero marketing. If wargaming console makes a very big marketing push next season and they make it a good season, i think quite a few vets will come back and give the game another try
Farming bots for better stats is only a issue to those who care about stats, and in a "team game" of 30 players personal stats are of limited value. I remember pre bot days, trying to get a game at silly o'clock in the morning when getting home from shift work and repeatedly getting timed out. I watched Armoured warfare die a death as people left for war thunder. To be honest i was surprised WoT was still going when i recently returned to the game. Seeing bots and being one of only four humans in a game gave me the peace of mind to buy some prem time and start grinding again. I dont care if its me and 29 bots, just as long as i get to drive my tanks and blow stuff up. If some tryhard wants to set his alarm for 2am to farm bots for stats thats just fine with me, if i meet him in a game my sport will be to mess him up and hopfully get the salty message because thats my idea of fun. But honestly it still takes some dedication and effort to miss out on your sleep just to get stats in a dying game so fair play, maybe thats the new norm, id rather have any new norm than a dead game.
is that why sometimes my games go fantastically well and then randomly go spectacularly tits up in others even tho im not playing any differently. how do you know whos a bot or how many bots are in the game your in?
Hit the large map that shows all players. Then press a shoulder button to scroll down the names. Click on the players, if there isn't a profile or a way to report the player, it's a bot
Hi Riki 😊, That is a really good topic 👏 Bots are alright I don't mind in the game and as a player you don't expect anything from them only that what they're programme's says. I'm more disappointed of human team members witch are only watching and playing worst then Bots . Sitting in back sniping not helping the team. I don't know if you notice but since wg puts out era3 tanks like candy's the game changed 😢 Cw has become a faster version of ww2. My opinion have a nice day
English isn't my first language so please correct me if i'm wrong here or understood something wrongly.. but Riki is talking about bots and the video ind the background should be a bot game but it says "multiplayer" in the top left at the end and not co-op. Does that mean that you play against bots in the normal multiplayer? If yes, what is the co-op mode for?
I had a game and i remember i did 23K RAW damage and a bit over 3K Spotting with the MBT 70, yes it was against players and bots, but mind you i wasn't hunting bots i was grinding Silver, and that is now my Total Best Damage record now :( but just to see the difference i earned 140,000,0 Silver in that game thanks to my X2 Silver Bonus, it was random, but also cool hehe i remember one of my best games in WW2 way pre Alpha 6.0 was in my E100 and i did like 13 K damage and i was like, man i am never going to have a game like that again.
True we don't have control if there's bots in our games. My issue is posting achievements from bots. There's some guy who posts a ton of 4 marks in the Facebook named godof...something. I can tell he definitely farms bots and brags about those 4 marks. Look up his recent WW2 stats and he's an okay player at best.
Had a cracking game in my T49 light tank this week. Really good damage and assistance. Got very little XP and was confused. Turned out I accidentally selected co-op 😅 I never play co-op. Guess I am a purist 😉
Splitting the game in to WW2 and CW may not be the best way to introduce modern armour to the game, maybe from tier 8 had a crossover in to CW through tier 10 and on to 13 so same mechanics bring back tier 1/2 so new players learn bring back the old tutorials that actually expanded how mechanics of shells and armour work so the player base is not split it may not be this easy in reality but to me this seems logical but I am not a game developer or programmer.
Not that bothered about bots; they can damage me, they can kill me, I can't tell if there are any in a lobby (unless I click through to the details of the 29 other players on the map screen?), I still have to be good enough to kill them (I'm assuming - the game is too fast to try and work out whether I'm fighting one or not) and avoid being killed by them. If having bots is what allows me to get into a game in under ten seconds then I'm a happy tanker - I don't play the game to sit in a holding screen for five minutes.
Personally I like coop, because i can do my daily season pass missions fast and easy in around half an hour and can get my tanks, well I will get the calliope and take a break after that, i had my fun in the time and enjoy many of the tanks I got in the last 4-5 season passes, love almost all of them, i play both ww2 and Cold war :)
I agree with your point that if there are bots in your game, then its not your fault so move on. However I don't feel that you covered the root cause as to why bots are in the game. Ive been playing over 7 years and I don't recall bots existing until relatively recent times. The reason there are bots, is due to the player base reducing. The reason for that is 6.0, and the path wargaming went down prior to that with various gimmicky seasons. They have further compounded it by introducing Cold war & COOP mode to split the player base. Cold war should of been added to the existing mode with incremental tiers after tier 10. However fundamentally they cannot solve the challenge of trying to retain new players, without alienating existing. They need to keep new players engaged by introducing skill based matchmaking. Or restrict access to higher tier tanks until a player has aquired a certain level of skill. This will hit Wargaming's pockets though, so unlikely. Therefore skill based match making and combining WW2 & CW is the only way to remove bots, if bots is a genuine concern
Yeah you don't get to pick, but you're still going into the game with the same skill set. When I see bots I almost feel like quitting because I know that I won't take my score seriously. Kind of hard to be proud when you fight bots. This game seems to be dying pretty quickly though, so I don't think we can do a thing about it. I've seen a decline in player numbers ever since I started playing a little over a year ago. I hate seeing more and more bots.
I kinda don't mind bots. I use co-op for some practice. What i do mind, is the blatantly rigged games. Even bot games are rigged beyond belief. One teams bots are all terminator's and your's are glitching in place to be farmed. Then there is the super rigged games i get most of the time. I have screen shoted these matches and ran all players profiles, and it keeps placing me in games where my team is all 40% or lower WR players VS 65% WR players. WTF?, That's why i refuse to ever give WG one damn cent.
Bots in games...yeah. AI is gonna be a thing, in everything. Not because it's need but because companies are seeing ways to have full servers and more games which generates $$$. Depending on how many bots there are can decide the outcome - but as a student in AI technology I'm fascinated to see how they react - of course it is possible to make truly interactive AI that learns from mistakes until you could not beat it, would that be fun for anyone? Games with half bots or less and half players to be honest, play much the same as full player games most times, I've stopped looking at the bot vs player ratio at the start and just focus on my gameplay. But yes, they are in and are here to stay, so it's another factor to get used to. Best not to get crying about it - WeeGee doesn't care about your tears, better to learn how the bots work - I'll give you a heads up, there's a thing like a "behavioural awareness cone" ie where the bot looks and what it reacts to? These things are blind outside 30 degrees of direct ahead... so get behind and get blasting.
Bots bots bots IMO It is unfortunate to have bots in the game but it's a sad reflection of the fact that we are playing a game (esp CW) where there are sometimes not enough players to fill a lobby. If you're a purist, then too bad - I don't like it myself but, being in the UK, I tend not to play at times where they would fill the lobby, so never been too much of a problem. Just remember no one is ever going to get better at World of Tanks by playing against bots (well at least not your average player)... My views on the MOE - I think it devalues the MOE (esp where bots are more prevalent i,e, Era 3) and, just maybe, WG could completely exclude bot games from the calculation or the damage dealt to bots (but understand both suggestions come with complications for players working towards MOE in countries where the time zone makes it more probable you'll be facing bots). Some things I would like to see introduced in respect of bot games First - WG should clearly label tanks that are bots. That would instantly tell me how the game might play out and which opponents I ought to prioritise. Also if I'm on a flank and only have bots in support, I know I'm pretty much on my own and should expect little or no intelligent support play (other than the bots distracting the opponent!) Second - there is a wealth of in-game data generated that ought to enable bots to better mimic the actions players perform on a particular map i.e. on Karelia, don't ever enter the middle of the map unless you have a high concealment rating. Come on WG all you need is to pull up the data and some AI learning (?) and I think the bots could actually become quite decently good ! Third - whilst you work on the second task, load the odds (RNG) in favour of the bots because they are currently quite terrible. So they get more dmg blocks when hit and have a higher percentage of penning you and doing critical dmg. That might at least "balance" out the MOE debate, as they would then in theory become a tougher opponent to deal damage against. Finally - agree with Riki, when you're faced with a huge bot game, take them head on as Squirrel did - boy that was some result and (for me) was the second best ever bot game I've witnessed behind one played out (in the early days if CW) by Vishaw in Era 3, where he dealt +20k damage in a T-72BU and ran out of ammo ! Sometimes the feat is just impressive irrespective - GG Squirrel
They had to add bots because they drove off a lot of players with update 6.0. I know of at least 50 players that left when they stole the commander perks and have not returned. Wargaming caused this issue with poor decisions. This game is mostly bots and bad players now. Great job wargaming
The game is so pay to win so there won’t be enough players to support games with no bots wg got so greedy in the last 1 years and released so many op premiums
Sorry but you sound like a broken record player. Yes bots make certain scenarios easier. How ever in the state that the game is in where there less players than before especially after certain time. Bots become essential for rest of the players that do want to play.

I play at late weird times so I can farm bots and fly through grinds. I get 15-20k games on the regular.
Hi Riki 😊,
That is a really good topic 👏
Bots are alright I don't mind in the game and as a player you don't expect anything from them only that what they're programme's says.
I'm more disappointed of human team members witch are only watching and playing worst then Bots .
Sitting in back sniping not helping the team.
I don't know if you notice but since wg puts out era3 tanks like candy's the game changed 😢
Cw has become a faster version of ww2.
My opinion have a nice day
Bots for me is great it is a breath of fresh air in the gaming community
Another very well reasoned argument again old chap. Well said
They killed the game with the 6.0 CW/WWII split.
No bots then see how people like sitting and waiting 5 minutes for a game each time, there there for a reason
What do you think about opt out games?
True we don't have control if there's bots in our games. My issue is posting achievements from bots. There's some guy who posts a ton of 4 marks in the Facebook named godof...something. I can tell he definitely farms bots and brags about those 4 marks. Look up his recent WW2 stats and he's an okay player at best.
Wow didn't know that co-op was bots
Bruh, your giving them more alpha than we get!! Also, they seem to get more and more smarter, they're really going to become too op.
Have a buddy who was a tester for thr Molot. He said he and about 50 other testers begged WG not to release it as is. Show show much they listen.
New player here, I hate the bots so much. I just want to play with other players.
Are you playing the co-op or multiplayer mode?
I for one don't care if bots are in my games I rather like it really as its just easy damage and bots are smarter then some people honestly
Bots are very bad in random, they are not needed in a multiplayer game
Not worse farming bots than playing op premiums to get a unicum status, just my thoughts.
I get your point.
I dont mind bots, dont seem to get many gameswith them in
Bots in games...yeah.
The game must be dying. Bots are a signal more and more players are leaving the game.
Bots bots bots
IMO
It is unfortunate to have bots in the game but it's a sad reflection of the fact that we are playing a game (esp CW) where there are sometimes not enough players to fill a lobby.
Some things I would like to see introduced in respect of bot games
First - WG should clearly label tanks that are bots. That would instantly tell me how the game might play out and which opponents I ought to prioritise. Also if I'm on a flank and only have bots in support, I know I'm pretty much on my own and should expect little or no intelligent support play (other than the bots distracting the opponent!)
Second - there is a wealth of in-game data generated that ought to enable bots to better mimic the actions players perform on a particular map i.e. on Karelia, don't ever enter the middle of the map unless you have a high concealment rating.
Nice to hear people ignoring cw so they need bots
why not making the game good ans fun, so people actually want to play, and they don't need bots. most of the games are not playable
It's 9+ years old. You're lucky the servers are still up
The game is so pay to win so there won’t be enough players to support games with no bots wg got so greedy in the last 1 years and released so many op premiums
🛑🛑 Excuse My Ignorance…
But how do you know your in a BOT Game?
Bots will have no mic symbol next to their name and when you select a bot, the view profile option will be missing.
Sorry but you sound like a broken record player. Yes bots make certain scenarios easier. How ever in the state that the game is in where there less players than before especially after certain time. Bots become essential for rest of the players that do want to play.
