I think Norton are in very safe hands here. The V4's and 'heritage' models are their entry point in since the V4 concept previously was brilliant if somewhat poorly executed (quality wise). TVS are a huge company and they wouldn't invest vast amounts and build a state of the art facility just to churn out a relatively small number of niche products.. I think they have some pretty serious plans up their sleeves.
I've had three Norton's in my lifetime. Back in the '60's I first had a 1962 Norton Electra and then two Norton Scramblers. A tomato red 1963 or '64 and a 1965 candy apple red one. They were vertical twins as this is before they slanted the motor forward a tad. They came with no mufflers so I had to install some stubby ones on them as the neighborhood I lived in at the time had some ornery cops! Today at 74 years old here in the state of Georgia I have three BMW's. A 2000 R1150GS, a 2001 K1200RS and a 2016 S1000R I just purchased used with 8000 miles on it. I also have a 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa that I bought new. I have riding 58 years and plan to keep on riding as long as I can. It keeps you young!
BTW: I remembered last night that the tomato red 750 Scrambler had a winged M on the tank for Matchless though both 750 bikes were the same. I wish I still had the candy apple red one today!
Hi, I too had Norton’s back in the 60’s, both bought new; a 350cc Navigator and a 650ss, loved them both although the 650 ss had a few problems and I had to take it to Norton’s HQ in Birmingham to be fixed. I now have a 2001 Honda VFR V-tech which I bought second hand (2 months old)…absolutely love in every aspect of it. I agree biking helps you to stay young (I’m 78 now and have no plans to pack up yet), I voluntarily took the Advanced Motorcyclists test several years ago which was the best £100 I’ve ever spent…..helps me to stay alive plus when riding I have the mindset that everyone is out to kill me! I had always liked TVS bikes. They made their name in crowded market of india. And now they are doing some amazing work with Norton. Literally everyone is hoping for this brand to resurrect again and loking at this video it seems its coming alive from ashes like phoenix.
Great insight to what goes on behind the curtain of manufacturing our beloved machines. Thankyou to Norton for letting us peek behind that curtain a little. Top work Chopsy!!
Thank you very much, John. What a fantastic video, wow you got the VIP treatment there. Glad to see Norton was not trying to buy the press with overly lavish corporate entertainment but instead concentrated on the stuff that actually matters.
What a fantastic day out! Build quality and attention to detail looks second to none. I really hope they make a success of the company and put Norton back on the map.
Cannot wait to see your review on one of these. Being on the other side of the pond, I don’t suspect I’ll see one in the wild. Major props for the CEO to be open and transparent about issues and their process to rebuild. Taking ownership and bringing that experience in house (from dealers) was a great call to ensure accountability while rebuilding their reputation.
Thank you John....I have not heard much about the Norton only after it was acquired by TVS Indian brand and I am proud to me a Indian and that to TVS hales from my part of country down south. And thanks for the wonderful tour 🙏
I just hope they get to the bikes for the masses. I'm not sure a boutique sports bike is what's needed but if it get them on the scene, let's see what's next. Wishing them good luck on the Isles and hopefully beyond.

Except they were cutting with a bit when they said laser sharp accuracy & polishing when they said grinding. Their production numbers mean they charge more per bike. This means they are more expensive than the competition. The price difference has to be quality... They will only get so many people willing to pay for the name "Norton" when, make no mistake, it's really TVS. I have nothing against TVS but this is a tricky situation as they will want to maximize profits but they have also marketed that they are getting it done at the engineering level. The proper way to get this bike out is to build quality and reputation and then lose money for a year or two as you learn how to build quality at a lower price without sacrificing... We will see..
That looks absolutely amazing. I wish them all the best and that they stay true to their commitment to craftsmanship and quality (I'm looking rather angrily at you, Triumph...) And though I'm one of those pleb Honda riders, if I ever had the money for a work of art, I'd get one with a Norton badge.

Norton will only succeed if it makes bikes people want to ride and flogging a £30k-£35k 'masterpiece' to collectors won't get you market share, and eventually the novelty will wear out. Edit: make that a £30k-£45k; the RR was near £30k and the SS was £45k. The Panigale V4 is £20k base and £32k for the SP trim - and those are already overpriced. Meanwhile, Norton continues the dodgy trend of not posting prices for the bikes on their site - so much for improving perception.
To an extent I agree. However, the economies of scale will dictate that a manufacturer who employs a lot of skilled manual labour in smaller volumes will always incur higher prices. Looks like a super serious setup, solid foundation paves the way for solid branding. To be honest the designs on the v4r and the commando looks to me a hardy and bullet proof bike. If the engine can be designed and assembled by meticulous minds, it’s a good start.

Norton are back! For the sixth time! We really mean it this time! We're not joking! These bikes will NOT become unusable museum pieces requiring a skilled machinist to keep them running, IF the owners actually intend on riding them and not "collecting" them! Really! We're serious!
Interesting insight Mr Chops, cheers for that, obviously TVS has brought modern production facilities and practices and sound finances to the previous owner's ideas. They certainly knew how to impress with their Trade Stands and wares at Shows but that proved to be no more than Smoke and Mirrors.Still a bit too niche for me but I always liked the look of the V4SS.The voiceover from the advert at the beginning sounds suspiciously like SG to me too.
Fantastic to see them back, hopefully they will grow and innovate, so we will still see them in decades to come. Great video LCR and a very privileged tour.
Fantastic experience so early on in the factories development.I just wonder what are the investors thinking knowing the future of the petrol engine?thanks.

Good stuff ! As a CCM owner I really like the British brands. A tad expensive I think but support quality and protect UK jobs
Really good presentation Chops.
A bit different from the factory tour I did with 'old' Norton! Bit of a scoop there Chopsy, nice one!
Yes, I did that one as well, an old British Midlands carpeted office with 3 or 4 people making bikes and a bloke outside leak testing fuel tanks in a big bath of water
@@miketilston1528 I'm upset I didn't get to see the 'Fuel tank integrity testing'!😭😃
@@vernonwitney806 He said it was very cold work in the winter months
Great video. Really hope Norton make it this time. Fingers crossed.
Excellent work Chopsie. Nice to see you getting some proper recognition for all your hard work over the years. Cheers from Melbourne 👍
Great video, can't wait to see future bikes👍
The master of hand build
Yes! Very beautiful, looks like art. And that sound👍
Genuinely hope they make it as successful as it should be. Without doubt one of the most iconic bike brands that ever existed…..excellent vid/ interview as well!
Wish them all the best.
Always loved them.I wish Norton great success in bringing back this legendary British motorcycle.👏👏
The workshop looked like the office complex when they was building bikes at Donnington very strange.
Look forward to seeing you test the production bike!
@6:33 when he says level off our inspection , he moves his arm down to a lower level , interesting slip up
i really hope norton play a blinder and pull this rebirth off. i want them to be world class. i suggest they make a 100bhp 600cc sportsbike and derived retro naked to get back in.
SG's Norton had already designed/developed the Superlight 660 and Atlas/Nomad machines,id have thought TVS would take them forward if they thought it was any good.
@@paultanton4307 They have to make a deal with the chinese maker to whom Garner sold the rights!! That could bring out some quality issues & that too the 💓 of a bike!!
Brilliant insight into the new Norton chops, hoping they get all the success they crave, beautiful v4 machine
Mega kool , Thanks for sharing.. i hope this reboot will succeed for this iconic brand .
great video great content and a great future for norton
I would love to see a Norton engine with a 360 degree crank in their twins, please.
I love this new setup, I own a Ducati Diavel and would definitely consider buying one of these if they are not at stupid prices.
So honest and open
Looks like a super serious setup, solid foundation paves the way for solid branding. To be honest the designs on the v4r and the commando looks to me a hardy and bullet proof bike. If the engine can be designed and assembled by meticulous minds, it’s a good start.
Come back in 5 years , if they are still going and havnt been sold / run off with customers money then I'll consider it
top vid chopsy ...exciting times ahead .
Good luck guys, looks like you are following Victories sop
Wow that was impressive! Just kooking for your discount code link for my new Commando lol
It looks like an incredible set up, you got quite the coup here John! :-)
I kind of like that they are getting rid of the dealership network, so customers get the bikes direct so Norton has a face.
You lucky SOB mate, can't wait to see your ride video when they get one to you!
No it won't be SG, completely washed there hands of him
Fantastic to see them back, hopefully they will grow and innovate, so we will still see them in decades to come. Great video LCR and a very privileged tour.
Well done chops I really enjoyed that. You just get better 👍🏻
Fantastic experience so early on in the factories development.I just wonder what are the investors thinking knowing the future of the petrol engine?thanks.
Robert spent alot of time talking about leccy bikes, they will be making one
Well done chops, good coverage and questions about the factory. I hope they do well!
I am really pleased TVS came to the rescue unfortunately they have so much ground to cover just to get back to square one in the trust department.
