I’m a Norton owner and a big fan, I know it’s well made and thought out but £44,000 for 180 hp with limited settings (not that we need all the gismos) that’s a really pricy option.
Yes considering you can buy a Ducat V4r that will eat it for lunch! It’s outrageous especially as the world 🌎 is in economic downturn. I don’t think they’re going to make it.
Just looking the numbers doesn’t do the bike justice I think.. it is realy a “road sports bike”. An when it is a lot more ridable and better use of the power, it will be faster. It can be a better bike then a V4(R). It is an “old school” new bike.
Nice looking and sounds great too. But 44 g’s? If they weren’t deadly serious I’d say they’re having a laugh. Why do they think the bike will sell at that price? Power? Nope. Looks? Nope. Nostalgia for the old British motorcycle industry? And those bikes that do sell won’t be on the road, they will all be SORN’d and in some rich ponces lounge.
Triumph also now market a 'Sportsbike for the road' in the Speed Triple 1200 RR. Similar power; same torque; lighter and semi-active suspension and yet it's £18K rather than £44k! Maybe when the $124m investment from TVS filters through the Business they can get models down to some sensible pricing.
If the first product of Norton is like this, after being backed by TVS. I hope there would be some seriously good products coming out going forward in the future.
£44k is stupid and it's the wrong segment to aim for too I'd have thought a naked semi-retro style will appeal much more and with sensible prices Norton could build on their immense heritage Then wheel out the expensive stuff in a few years once confidence in the brand is back on track It's not a premuim brand, despite what the marketing people think, it has a reputation for poor customer service and poor management. And it's that that's needing to be addressed and the only way is with solid, affordable products and reliable, solid service. This is going to fail, again.
You've come a long way baby. What an awesome machine, and the sound is unreal. Oh and 185 hp. What else could you possibly want, except maybe the Rotary that Hizzy made famous.
It needs to be half that price. It looks dated already and the lack of a proper electronics package is woeful. It might have worked ten years ago but now the consumer has so many better and (significantly) cheaper options (not even going to mention reliability). Shame. Wanted this to be awesome.
I’d say not half, but at least 1/3 of that price. Unless they want be known as custom motorcycle builders, who has nothing to do with the mass production routine ^^
Rediculous price when a top spec Aprilia RSV4 can be had for about half that amount with more power and a driven track record. The cost will put most bikers off as they’ll see it as appealing to well healed toff weekend warriors. I just think that by setting the price high, their business model will alienate most people and lets face it, their reputation is so tarnished that few other than the very wealthy will ever buy one in the UK. Where do I sign for an Aprilia?
Sign up at your local Aprilia dealer. No one is forcing you to buy it. Most bikers wont be able to afford it. Most bikers cant even ride whatever they ride competently so power output is largely for bragging rights in the carpark at the local cafe.
@@nortoncommandoupgradestrav2474 I don’t have to. I have an aprilia sat in the garage and 35 years riding says I can ride it;-). Beautiful looking bike, definitely going to be exclusive. Wonder how it will stack up against other V4s (Ducati, Aprilia etc), or i could be missing the point of ownership of the Norton brand. Looking forward to the 'on the road' video 😀
Hmmm. Ok, I think Aprilia might now have some competition for the best sounding bike. But, for a second lets assume that 185hp is enough...they just cant price it more expensive than the high spec Ducati's. Aprilia's and MV's. Listening to the Norton engineer, I wonder whether the lack of electronic goodies is due to getting the bike out asap ... I wish them luck, but at 44k they haven't a chance...
I am a little confused, does it have Traction control and ABS but cannot be changes (a 1st) or it does not? And the Norton Rep was dancing around the question.
to be fair the bike is aimed at investor's and summer biker's who like to show off there investment. personally i think it's a good show-case to build on. it's got enough power to be lively and fun ride and most importantly it's a brand that most rider's would love to see back on the road. so it will be interesting to see if they can get into the price range of other stock bikes and cc restriction's.

If i were an investor I'd insist on scrapping all the old outdated models and concepts. The reputation is tarnished. A clean slate is needed. They need to start at the bottom and build some cool starter bikes. Then progress to mid tier bikes and so on not start at the top with outrageously priced, underpowered old tech only wealthy collectors can afford. Headline bhp figures are also a bragging point tbh. I'm curious to see how this rides on the road and stacks up viz actual lap times. That price, though, is spicy. The V4SV has retained the V4SS looks and many other features, but the V4SS, worth £44,000, was the limited plated run of 200. If this bike is an average production machine when placed against Ducati, Aprilia, BMW etc., the price does not make sense. When you look back at the sales performance of the V4SS, because it was a limited run, it sold instantly, and the secondary market pricing was almost a 50% uplift.
