The original series was fun and campy, and therefore unrealistic. The remake was very realistic, and therefore dark, dreary and depressing. It was undeniably very well done, but I don't find dark, dreary and depressing to be entertaining, so I didn't watch more than three or four episodes in the entire run.
I way prefer the charisma of the original Starbuck and Apollo actors. Call me sexist all you want but Dirk Benedict was way cooler than that blonde lady. I also prefer the more "old school" effects to the cartoonish CGI. CGI is over relied on. And Richard Hatch was way more handsome than that generic actor who was the new Apollo.
Same. I watched reruns of the original as a kid in the 80s and loved every second. I enjoyed the remake for what it was, but the original was more hopeful and positive.
love those old school cylons with the robot voice and back and forth red eye light ... and ever so shiny! They spend hours buffing themselves every day !

I was 13 or 14 when this was on TV and I loved the show dearly. So much did I like the original that it took me years after the new Galactica had been shown before I decided to give it a shot. WOW! The new series was wonderful and more 'Realistic'? and grimmer and I watched the entire series I think in like 10 days. I also love what they did with the Pegasus storyline in the new one as well. I was pissed at first with the decision the new series made on season 3, but it all worked out in the end. Fantastic show, both the 70's version and the newer one.
""I really think you should take a look at the other battlestar" is one of the best moments in the original series. I remember watching it originally as a kid and cheering.
I always wondered why the Colonial Viper pilots had light bars on their helmets when they should have dimmed everything to see better in space. But I'll bet the real reasons are they sure help you to be able to see the actor's face and ... they just look cool.
Humans flew another Raider when Starbuck and Apollo stole one in a different episode and they were almost destroyed by "friendly fire" but luckily Commander Tie (forgot the name, the African American actor) figured out it was them. Thing is, Cylons are ROBOTS so they do not need AIR TO BREATHE but somehow when a human gets into one of the raiders there is LIFE SUPPORT to keep them alive? For Baltar it makes sense, as he was their leader on that mission they would have made ADJUSTMENTS to the ship to keep him alive but the ship Star Buck and Apollo Stole? Pretty damned convenient that it was fully of BREATHABLE AIR and life support systems.....
This show was actually ahead of its time for 1978. Still fun to watch today. I did like Ron Moore's version, but the original had a classic golden age science-fiction charm to it.
Until Will Riker's order to "Fire" in the best of both worlds, in TNG, THIS was the best episode hanging ending. Baltar's disbelief, was well played. And the static, humorless voice of the cylon was the perfect foil when Baltar expressed "That's impossible!" With the reply "No, that is a Battlestar.

In the original movie, Baltar was killed. There are some fantastic outtakes here on UA-cam that show just exactly why and how it happened. Great stuff! Far better than anything today. Some of the best sci-fi ever! 🚀🚀🛸🛸
Cylon Co-Pilot after the pilot's conversation with Baltar starting at 3:55 ends: "That's got to be the best Cylon I've ever seen"
Baltar: "So it would seem"
That look on Baltar's face is priceless! TURN YOU FOOL! HE IS COMING RIGHT AT US!
Indeed it was a great reaction because he'd thought that All of the Battlestars had been eliminated
This was when the show hit its peak. I loved every moment of it, being the perfect age to enjoy it. And then, in a flash, the series was gone… 😢
So true! Right there with you. I was 10 or 11 at the time.
For its time, I imagine that this show was ridiculously expensive to produce.
@@BitsofRealPanther I think it was about $1M per episode, if I remember correctly.
I really do love the original Battlestar Galactica. It is one of the best ship designs from the late 70's.
Another great late 1970s ship design was how the Enterprise was "upgraded" in its look compared to the original Star Trek. The first Star Trek movie was filmed in 1979.
I remember like it was yesterday (but 30 years ago) how I shouted as a kid when I saw the Pegasus appear in this scene.... and then the episode ended! I couldn't wait for the next episode!!
Amazing how well Baltar recovered from the throat slash the Cylons gave him at the beginning of the series.
I just posted about the very same thing :D Dude literally LOST HIS HEAD.
@@kirk1968 in the book, and I believe it was mentioned in the TV series, Baltars' head WAS removed from his body, but then the Leader had the head grafted onto his body so he could better understand Humans. It's never really shown, in the TV series, that Cylons; like Daleks; are actually cyborgs, not robots.
@@TheGrumpy01 Great info! I remember reading the book back then, but not that particular detail. The reboot series really fleshed that out, so to speak.
@@TheGrumpy01 In the movie. Baltar was killed. But in the series. He was saved at the last second.
@@TheGrumpy01 There is one monologue by Adama where he is telling of the Cylon past, and they are robots, not cyborgs who rebelled against their creators, the Cylon race.
This is the one aspect of the original BSG universe that I love. Humanity is fighting against another race's problem, not their own. I always thought that was very unique and when the new series didn't have that I lost interest.
I love how no hapless ensigns lost their lives to dangerously explosive consoles, unlike some other franchise . . . .
It's almost as if some other franchise put explosive charges in their consoles... 🤔
Hmmmm... you might be on to something here 🌞
But that “other franchise” has been going strong since the 60’s. Where is Battlestar Galactica now? I have heard whispered rumors of another reboot. How many times can you tell the same story?
Yep you don't see exploding rocks on the bridge.
@@alienlife7754 Not another reboot. A new series in the 2003 reboot universe.
And the point about the dumbass exploding consoles still stands.
It also helps that Battlestars are equipped with fire extinguishers.
Pretty good effects for '78. Really a lot of Class A actors. Cheesy, entertaining dialogue.
How can you not love this how?
An absolutely amazing cliffhanger for those of us watching at the time, and yet I am still somewhat traumatized by Baltar's BEHEADING in the original Galactica film. IYKYK.
Classic Battlestar I love it! So awesome it was like mini tv movies every week
Dang it, now I gotta wait til next week to watch part 2!
One of my favorite episodes.. from the classic series
John Calacos (Baltar) was one of my favorite characters on this show, so Shakespearean in his performance as a villain and highly melodramatic......."BURN GALACTICA!!! YOU'RE FINISHED ADAMA!!!"
They should have given him a few two-liners in iambic pentameter, the way they did with the Baron Harkonnen in the Dune and Children of Dune miniseries ...Knowing what I do about Mr. Colicos, he'd most certainly have liked that.😁
@@christianealshut1123 I also like some from Star Trek he played the Klingon Warrior Kor he was an amazing actor even in his golden retirement years his performances are still memorable and Unforgettable
He reminded me more of Dr. Smith from Lost In Space than Shakespeare tbh.
@@donpietruk1517That’s Lucifer. Always great to see Baltar and Lucifer together.
So much better than the new series.
Baltar was such a great villain; eccentric and yet colorful at once.
his helmet tho...
Looks like a wrong week for the Pegasus' CO to stop sniffing glue!
I love the original series better than the remake.
Even today watching John Colicos as Baltar is a treat. He played the character perfectly.
Yes. When reading GALACTICA comic book stories the last three decades it’s impossible not to hear John Colicos, Lorne Greene, everyone’s voices
Thanks for posting these clips from the original show. I really wish it could have had a longer run. 😪
Still to this day that was so exciting being young and watching this episode unfold Balta was priceless in here and as Kor on star trek!
"This is going to be a classic defeat." -Count Baltar
OG Baltar was such a scenery-chewing masterpiece of a villain.
Baltar's expression was priceless when he saw the Pegasus bearing down on him! You never saw Cylons run at flank speed away from an attack after the Pegasus had all their fighters launched!
I've always considered that a good, "OH, _S**T!"_ look. (Or should it be, "Oh, _FRAK!!"_ Or maybe, "Oh, _FELGERCARB!!"_ )
It's so hard to take Lloyd Bridges seriously after seeing him in all his comedic roles with Airplane and Hot Shots. 🙂
Looks like I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue!
But that’s not important right now!
"Mandelbaum! Mandelbaum!"
Watch it man! Remember, ever since Normandy this(his forehead) is Corning Ware!
My skins made of asbestos. Tanning parlor accident, Dien Bien Phu!
Tug Benson at his funniest!
"My eyes are ceramic." -- Lloyd Bridges
I was 13 or 14 when this was on TV and I loved the show dearly. So much did I like the original that it took me years after the new Galactica had been shown before I decided to give it a shot. WOW! The new series was wonderful and more 'Realistic'? and grimmer and I watched the entire series I think in like 10 days. I also love what they did with the Pegasus storyline in the new one as well. I was pissed at first with the decision the new series made on season 3, but it all worked out in the end. Fantastic show, both the 70's version and the newer one.
No, It’s a Battlestar! OMG I had forgotten how Sassy and Sarcastic those Cylons were 🤣😂🤣😅🤣
I loved this show as a kid
One of my favourite scenes as a child from any series I watched back then, topped off perfectly by the Centurion's reaction.
Best episode in the entire series
""I really think you should take a look at the other battlestar" is one of the best moments in the original series. I remember watching it originally as a kid and cheering.
Cain plays the Air Traffic Towe Supervisor in Airplane Movies who says "Looks like I picked the wrong time to quit smoking."
I thought I recognised that voice
Oh my 1978. Thats taking me way back. In June of 1978 I was 1 year out of high school.
John Colicos--a great Baltar and a great Klingon as well!
3:26 "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines"
I always wondered why the Colonial Viper pilots had light bars on their helmets when they should have dimmed everything to see better in space. But I'll bet the real reasons are they sure help you to be able to see the actor's face and ... they just look cool.
Exactly. Quite common in science fiction for that reason.
Thank you.I needed to watch this
Galactica, Star Trek, Star Wars... you wouldn't find the bedtime stories our father told my brother and me in any ordinary book of fairy tales xD.
perhaps, the best scene of the series
second best. best was when they picked up the Pegasus on scanners.
Aw, they gave him a little Cylon hat and everything haha
That was Balters ship from the two part episode "War of the Gods".
The Look on Baltar's Face, When The Cylon Centurion, Says, No I Really Think You Should Look ,at The Other Battlestar, is Classic
Baltars reaction at the end is gold!
Cylon Centurion at its best thuggery. Lol
“No !! It’s a Battlestar”
Sassy pilot giving Baltar the side-eye. 😂
I watched this back in 78...watched the three hour TV Movie and the Series
"I really think you should look at the other Battle Star"
Should be a meme for when something which isn't supposed to exist, suddenly appears anyway.
This show was actually ahead of its time for 1978. Still fun to watch today. I did like Ron Moore's version, but the original had a classic golden age science-fiction charm to it.
why does the bridge remind me of the lobby of a 70's municipal building. Thats a big ass set they used.
This makes Star Trek, filmed 10 years prior, look like an academy award winner.
Love that bit of Dry Pointing out the Obvious Cylon Humor
Until Will Riker's order to "Fire" in the best of both worlds, in TNG, THIS was the best episode hanging ending.
Baltar's disbelief, was well played.
And the static, humorless voice of the cylon was the perfect foil when Baltar expressed "That's impossible!"
With the reply "No, that is a Battlestar.
Why doesn't baltar realize if he had finished off Galactica and or the Pegasus the cylons were going to kill him anyway
Baltar's motives in the original series were always a bit unclear.
'Cause in the original series, Baltar is a moron.
@@michaelbruvolt4221 both Baltar's are morons
@@ScaryBaldMan no it's not unclear baltar thought he could rise to power inside the Cylon Empire I should know I watched the original TV show it aired on TV
In the original movie, Baltar was killed. There are some fantastic outtakes here on UA-cam that show just exactly why and how it happened. When it went to television, Baltar was brought back simply because he's such an awesome villain. In the television remake Baltar was a good villain, though in the original he was much better.
One of my favorite episode from this show.
"A classic defeat spoken about for a thousand yarns.".. Do Cylons engage in light conversation between each other then coz there ain't gonna be no humans to talk about it.
Loved this Baltar look. I remember hoping it would somehow inspire live-action Spider-Man or Hulk to have Magneto show up. I mean we'd all gotten use to cheapo TV special FX making things move because of telekinesis, magic and ghosts (even gladly willing ourselves to not see the wires); so how hard could it have been to blame it on magnetism?
Still the best EVER in television.
One of the best moments in SciFi.
That cylon helmet conversion he's wearing is quality. Not seen that before
Can you imagine reboot Baltar leading an attack of any kind? He couldn't even stand up without freaking out. I remember there was a track called "Baltar Panics" on the soundtrack. I remember thinking to myself that he was in a state of panic every moment he was on screen.
The reboot character definitely made me appreciate John Colicos' character even more.
Yeah, Gaius Baltar was a wuss compared to the original.
