- How good is the camera in the 'cheap' iPhone? I put the 2nd Generation iPhone SE camera through its paces and also compare it to the iPhone 11 Pro, as well as the iPhone X (which supposedly shares the same main camera as iPhone 8 - which supposedly shares the same camera as the 2020 SE.)

the fact that SE's camera is much better than X
I just upgraded from a 7 to the SE and the camera is 10x better. Especially the portrait blurred photos.
Should I buy one for 100$ canadian dollars

It also fits in my pocket unlike the iPhone 13 or 12 so it’s also perfect for me

This is a good camera alternative for when I don’t want to lug around my large bulky dslr .. $400 for a 28 mm with “portrait mode” is a steal, and the images contain a good amount of information as a jpeg if I’m wanting to edit them on camera raw or photoshop.
You can carry a smaller dslm...

Since iOS 15 my SE 2020 in Portrait mode is following the family dog. This is proving to be a very good camera. Can’t wait to test it out with the filters I have coming tomorrow. NOTE: The vertical sun slider next to the Focus box may be an ISO adjustment. I notice that the exposure meter never changes when using this slider. Wouldn’t that be cool if we had independent control of both Exposure and ISO within the Apple Camera app?!! I will be testing out this idea in the days and weeks to come to see if I can conclusively determine that they are, in fact, 2 different settings to control the light.
Nite mode is cool but I never take pictures at nite so I’m good

DCI-P3 color range on IPhone SE is pretty suprising!
I turned off Smart HDR and use it selectively. With it on all the time I was encountering color balance and contrast issues.

I personally am a android user and have the pixel 3a. I think in terms of camera performance I think is a bit better then the iphone se. However I think the video especially with the 4k 30fps is better then the pixel 3a. At night the video on the pixel 3a is worst then the iphone for sure.

Photos without flash usually look more natural than when you introduce an external light source (flash) into the scene.

Yeah but even now in 2022 the 11 costs like double the price of the SE 2020 version , for example i got my SE from Tesco's eBay store for £180 , the 11 would have cost me over £300 , just not worth it , If i was spending over £300 i would get a 12 mini instead as thats like the perfect iPhone

I think the SE uses a different (cheaper?) camera. I shoot on iPhones A LOT (mainly street photography) and almost always in Raw (Mainly with Lightroom mobile). I was using a 6s and I got given an iPhone SE 2020 so I started using that... I noticed almost straight away how much more noisy the SE camera's photos were compared to the older 6s and also 6s Plus I sometimes use. I sometimes crop and I always zoom in and check stuff while editing so you can say I'm a pixel peeper as well! My partner has an 8 plus which I used a lot because it has the 2nd telephoto lens and the SE is much noisier than that too. I actually prefer to use my older 6s/6s plus cameras as long as the light is good as the images are way cleaner.

I am extremely unhappy with the camera. I started wondering if mine has an issue. The quality of photos I find disappointing. A lot of the photos lack clarity, somewhat blurred and pixelated. It is not the kind if intentional blur that you might want to get. I could compare it to making a photo through a frosted glass. My android that I bought 3 years ago for a fraction of the price of this iphone and it was a used phone actually makes better photos in my opinion than the SE. I feel really disappointed. I hoped for an upgrade, not a downgrade. Another thing that I observed is that I get some strange details occasionally that I would account for faulty image processing by the phone. That happens around objects with a stronger backlight.
Maybe there is an issue with ur pjone
i have the same issue with my SE, i thought it was my phone that had an issue, i guess it’s the same for everyone, i just hope for an upgrade, i bought my SE because i heard great reviews about the camera but i find it disappointing.
