      It's part of his classic hero's journey. Start off being a full-blown douchebag, meet someone who challenges his worldview, fall in love and then make slight improvements to that worldview. It's the exact same plot given to the prince in Ella Enchanted for example except he's SLIGHTLY less of a douchebag at the beginning.

    • @chrys9256
      @chrys9256 2 роки тому

      @@MrBrock314 There’s a slight difference between being a douchebag and an outright colonizing war criminal whose motivation is nothing but pursuing gold and riches. His whole character arc consists of having the hots for a native woman, not gaining genuine compassion and understanding of native people and their cultures. The movie doesn’t delve into his backstory at all, perhaps if he was someone who grew up destitute and was recruited by Radcliffe with promises of a better life for his family and then exploited and forced to kill people, maybe he’d have some redeeming value. But no, he’s just a greedy bastard who absolutely enjoyed killing “Indjuns”. He’s an irredeemable POS.

    It amazes me how different the reception of this movie is in the US. Where I'm from Pocahontas used to be the 2nd most liked Disney movie (after Lion King) and Colors of the Wind was the most well known song out of all their movies until Frozen came out. I don't think I know any person who knows a single song from Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast which seem to be the ones you guys favored.

      Your people don't know Under the Sea or Be Our Guest??? That's wild. Colors of the Wind is the main good song from Pocahontas, most of the songs suck. Little Mermaid has Part of your world, Poor Unfortunate Souls...Kiss the Girl??? Honestly has zero flops. B and the B has Be Our Guest, Gaston is always fun, and of course 'beauty and the beaaast' which is universally loved by kids and adults

    I know it’s terribly historically inaccurate but most musicals even loosely based on history are. (Finding Neverland & Greatest Showman, for example.) I’m not saying it didn’t have problems, but for the time, it did fairly well. They actually got native actors to do some of the lead voices and asked for their input. They asked natives for their input then dismissed it. The natives went on to say they wish they had never spoken to them. It's truly awful what was done. The real Pocahontas was trafficked, then 400 years later, her descendants were sexualized and commodified.
