To Rex's point about innovation and response to markets he is spot on. A Fine example of that is Sears. Once a giant retailer, now basically gone. Personally, I'm shocked that Rex made a coherent point....lol....j/k
That's a great example. Sears had a huge catalog/mail order business, but was never able to grasp the internet/online order concept...and, basically, died out, because of it.
Sears had a ceo installed to purposefully tank the company so that Apollo Investments could take over the bankrupt company and all of the real estate they owned. Look up cellar boxing. Sears did make horrible choices; but they were made on purpose by people that wanted it to fail…
Yup. Sears’ catalog strategy was innovative for decades - the Amazon of their time. No one could come close to them. They sat way too long and on that as their bread & butter. The rest is history…
The name of this is UNDOUBTEDLY inspired by the fact that Stauning (the town from which the distillery got its name) is also the name of early 20th century prime minister Thorvald Stauning (1873-1942) who once campaigned on the slogan "Stauning eller Kaos" (Stauning or chaos).
Videos like this with conversations going off on some weird tangent is why I fell in love with this channel. The whiskey reviews are cool, too. :) The new 'off day' shorts are nothing more than tik-tok content and should be left on platforms like that. Please keep the videos on this channel true to what made you great. 3 great videos a week is so much better than 3 great videos and 2 videos that make me want to never come back. As always, this is just my 2¢.
I've been to the Stauning distillery more often than I'd like to admit - both the old and new one. The folks over there are absolute whisky nerds and all around lovely people. They've been putting a lot back into the local community and area as well. Hopefully you get to try more Danish malts as well - there's quite a few surprisingly good distilleries here, for such a small country.
Yea, When I was there I was told that as many of their resourses as possible are from within like a dozen km; the water, the barley, the heather (that they mix with the peat because they can't really source that local peat), and even the wierd floormalting robot. Any other Danish distilleries you can recommend? I personally really like Small Batch Distillers who make really great young heavily peated whisky
@@Some1ne Indeed! While I don't think it's anything unique to "our" distilleries, it is quite nice that it's common for almost all of them to source whatever they can locally. Some have even started making their own casks from locally sourced wood. As for recommendations, I'm quite fond of Fary Lochan and their nettle smoked malts. Strangely enough, there aren't really any that I'd dare call "heavily peated". But Stauning has their Peat line, which is definitely my favorite from their readily available selection. Nyborg Distillery has a peated malt too, but it's a proper bastard to find for a reasonable price.
@@GrandFishK thanks! You say that you don't think there's anything unique about our distilleries and that makes sense but in my limited experience our singe malts tend to be much sweeter than scotch single malt, but I haven't really tried other single malts from other countries, so I don't really know. De you find Danish single malts sweeter too?
The first time I watched this, I enjoyed their review. I took the chance and went online and ordered a bottle. I wasn't disappointed. It's got a unique aroma that made me think of a light ale and a good cigar aroma caught at a distance. The taste is clean (sorry I can't describe it better). Suffice it to say, these guys are spot on.
That was by far my favorite rant so far! I've been an MB for about 3 years now and have watched many many videos and therefore seen many many rants and have enjoyed almost all of them but this one was tops for me. Cheers to perfect imperfections 🥃
So, I once got offered a job because of things I learned from The Vault... Story time: Not so long ago, the wife and I were visiting a winery (yes, winery) in Northern NY. At this winery they also sell several products from local distilleries. When we arrived, as if by siren song, I was drawn to the whiskey displays. There was a woman at the counter, having a whiskey tasting (she was buying a gift for her husband). She asked the clerk what the difference was between the two bottles, of whiskey, in front of her. The clerk, whom I'm certain is a great wealth of knowledge when it comes to the fruit of the vine, didn't know the answer. I offered to see if I could answer her question for her. "I'm no expert, but I do enjoy whiskey, maybe I can help". Upon hearing this, my beloved wife rolled her eyes and walked away, uninterested as she was in hearing me geek out about whiskey... again. After the stranger decided on a bottle to purchase and left, I decided to do a tasting of my own. I sampled 4 different whiskies from 2 distillers; all the while, giving nose and pallet notes on what was in my hand. When I had finished and decided which I liked the best (and yes, I bought a bottle) the clerk looked me in the eyes and said: "Do you want a job?" I, naturally, scoffed at the idea. As it turns out, she was the owner (or possibly manager, point is she was a decision maker) of this particular establishment. She offered to hire me on the spot to do the whiskey tastings there. Sadly, I had to refuse the offer as the 3+ got commute would have been murder. True story.
My wife is Danish but we live in Canada. She brought me a bottle of the Stauning Smoke. It is 47 %abv. It is delicious and like was said it is like exhaling campfire smoke. Love it.
Thanks for the review, you silly nerdy bastards :) Next time you try it, look for the heather. If I'm not mistaken they use peat and heather smoke - that's probably where that minty feeling comes from. Glad you liked it.
Stauning Distillery is absolutely one of many distilling reasons for one to come to Denmark for a whiskey tour. I'm a recent transplant from the US and would actually prefer to do a comprehensive whiskey tour of Denmark before I do that obvious trip to Scotland. Denmark has the most awesome distilleries and breweries.
Every once in a while we get reminded that these gents work in a marketing school. Gotta love Daniel’s “Henry Rollins” performance theory: The perfect balance of f*** you and thank you. Cheers!
At the 8 minute mark I looked at the time left and thought, I wonder what tangent Rex will get on today. It wasn't the tangent I expected, but a good one none the less.
Damn Rex with his spot on business insight. “You know, Lloyd, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!”
Mr Rogers does have a statue now. It's on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. It was unveiled last year. Mr Rogers graduated from there in 1951. There's a statue and a few pieces of street art around the campus in tribute.
Was wondering if that was a 0.75L bottle of KAOS? I have only the Danish 0.5L versions (from duty-free in BLL) - and the labeling is completely different...
I would love to taste what you guys would do to Some Stauning - but how do we get ½ the finished product on the shelves in Denmark? Cuz i want at least two bottles!
That balance is why the fifth element is one of the best Bruce Willis movies. He has an equal amount of give a shit and don't give a shit so the whole thing is fun.

On 2014, I created a joke that "shirodashi soup" as a "bianco suppe du peche" because shirodashi means white soup stock based on fish. In italian tang that should be bianco zuppa de peche? hmm. because I have to talk with european, you know I have to meat with european tang. I'm not specially knowing european way but as far as I can remember, I didn't mis-their regulation.
A real egg cream has neither egg nor cream in it. As long as you didn’t have it sitting on the window sill in the PM sun, it should still be good. It’s a favorite at Jewish delis - give it a whirl with a pastrami or corned beef on rye…
I can't over the fact that the cursing is cencored on a video about alcohol... Who will think of the children? Yes I'm aware this isn't the choice of the channel but probably some UA-cam regulation bs.... It's still kinda ironic though
Same thing can be found in rock. The digitally massaged, click track modern rock has no depth because that digitally massaged "perfect" drum beat with no variations sounds like doodoo compared to a real drummer. That over processed "perfect" voice doesn't have the soul of a real honest voice. Slight imperfections and variations make the music appealing.

You two could talk about hard-boiled eggs and Schlitz beer and it would be informative and entertaining.
Thanks for the laughs and the information👍

Good morning Gentlemen.
I’ve got a bottle from a trip to Denmark last year. I’m a big fan of the blend they put together. Their rye was an amazing dram as well!
@5:03 we got Rex's Whiskey O face. Screen shot for meme purposes only🤣
An excellent discussion! I really enjoyed listening while sipping some Wild Turkey 101.
At the 8 minute mark I looked at the time left and thought, I wonder what tangent Rex will get on today. It wasn't the tangent I expected, but a good one none the less.
13:00 the best podcast (on Earth)🌟
Just purchased. Pretty dang good. Thanks team!
Hi and welcome to the business vault!
This episode is foreshadowing the end of the vault! THE END IS NEAR!
Came for the review, stayed for the business marketing Innovation rambling.
I have lost track
1. Is it cold heavy jacket, cap or warm t-shirt?
2. Is this whiskey good?
3. Computer podcast?

GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S... 🥃
Shoutout to the Wu Tang reference!!!
“Do you think you wu-tang sword, can it beat me?”
Such an awesome rant! I loved it!
Anyone doling out WT101 deserves praise.
Good Morning MB's :)
Great episode. Probably one of my favorites in some time. 👍
Whiskey and Chaos Theory... I'm in! I'm waiting for the dinosaurs to show up. 🦖 🦕
6:02 the Wu reference! 👐
Absolutely love the last 4 minutes
Just because you CAN give speeches like Dr Malcolm doesn't mean you SHOULD. Life finds a way.
This felt more like a TEDTalk. Actually really enjoyed it.
Lex's podcast is Awesome!!
Rex has an epic side-note Wu-Tang stance
Hopefully the 3-week will put some more chaos in your tank
How much would you charge for a bottle of blended whiskey comprised of the w[h]Iskey displayed in the whiskey vault? May I have some?
Was wondering if that was a 0.75L bottle of KAOS?
I have only the Danish 0.5L versions (from duty-free in BLL) - and the labeling is completely different...
Texas Danish.. a bourbon barrel probably would turn it into a Danish Pastry
I would love to taste what you guys would do to Some Stauning - but how do we get ½ the finished product on the shelves in Denmark? Cuz i want at least two bottles!
Where do we find the list of ongoing aging /barrelling/ distilling / experiments Etc
Came for the whiskey review stayed for the TED talk.

Lost it at the Wu-tang moment😂
That look from Rex when the blending happened.
What are you drinking on the live stream?
Have you guys done Jacob’s pardon yet?
Wooh! Like number one thousand!
How come they don't add water anymore?
Hey guys we are really backed up we have to pause donations, 2 months later, Hey guys we are cutting back to 3 days a week because we are so busy, 1 week later, hey guys we completely forgot how to do the show. lol

Do you get the same effect using a cup like a yeti to cool you whiskey as you do if you use ice to chill it? Just not watering it down?
Springbank is proving that theory wrong as you speak Rex. There isn't a better way.
There’s a video on UA-cam called how J Dilla humanized the MPC machine and I think it’s a perfect example of the music research Dan was talking about
A shout out to Lex Fridnman, Love it
Ya, drink week... Finally my wifes gots to deal with me sippin...
🙌 Wu!
So true. You gotta wreck shop sometimes.
Nearly 60 quid a bottle .......should be goood!!!!!
That said Lagavulin 16 is now 75 quid a bottle!!!!!!! That just blew my mind!!!!!!!
Don't get the Famous Grouse smoky comparison !!>?> £20 quid a bottle blend!!!???
