The kid actor who played Short Round, Ke Huy Quan, very recently won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once". The film also won for Best Picture, and presenting the award that year turned out to be none other than Harrison Ford! How cool is that?
Trivia: The guy who got chopped up by the propeller blade in Raiders is the same actor who got smooshed in Temple.
I remember playing the Lego Indiana Jones video game, where each character had a unique ability:
And according to the game prompts, "Willie's voice can break glass--Press Square button to scream!"
FMM, that...summed up neatly why this was not the first movie.

Not only was the actor who played short round in this movie, he also played Data in "The Goonies"
And he returned to acting with Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
And he was recently in Loki season 2

The release of this film and Gremlins in 1984 is what caused the creation of the PG-13 rating, since there wasn't quite enough to justify an R but they were still clearly beyond what should be in a PG film.

I'd like to point out that these 2 movie's are set 18 apart, especially considering that they were filmed 18 years apart

The big guy in the bar fight the big guy who got chopped from the first movie is the same guy who gets crushed in the second movie his name was Pat Roach.

The "big dude" is played by the same actor as the airplane prop guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The big guy Indy faces at the end is the same one he faced in the first one. Now you know ;)
This is actually my favourite Indy film. Love how different it is to the other two films (in the 'true trilogy' - sod the other two attempts), that its structure is different - with most of the film building the threat and the last act being non-stop action. Instead of making more sequels beyond the third film they should have spun it off into 'Short Round and the Blah of Blah'.
Short Round is my favorite in this movie! The next one is my favorite of the three. Can’t wait to see your reaction!
The darkest and most controversial Indiana Jones movie ever made. Even Steven Spielberg regrets filming this movie.
The original opening scene was actually in the script for Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
The airplane crash, the mine car chase and the bridge collapse were considered for Raiders but were too expensive to film.
One draft of the script involved Indy finding a hidden valley behind the Great Wall, filled with Dinosaurs, but it was settled that Indy should find ancient stones that can help a dying village.
The film was a box office success, making $333 million dollars ($896 million dollars today) against a $25 million dollar budget. It received mixed reviews upon release
But Spielberg liked Willie (Kate Capshaw) enough to marry her .
Indy probably did find a valley full of dinosaurs at some point, he just doesn't make a big deal of it
The female lead in this movie ended up getting married to Steven Spielberg after this film came out. They have 6 children and are still married.

Indy wearing the white Tux at the beginning was a nod to James Bond, Spielberg and George Lucas created the character of Indiana Jones back in the 70's. Spielberg was upset that he had been turned down a second time to direct a Bond movie by the producers because they thought he was too young and George Lucas was worried that Star Wars was going to flip so they went to Hawaii on vacation and came up with Indiana Jones as an anti James Bond.
Dan Ackroyd played the guy who led them to the plane.
A lot of people hated the character of Willy and thought Kate Capshaw was only cast because she eventually became Mrs Spielberg.
I was gonna actually say he looked like James Bond!

The raft as parachute thing actually works. Mythbusters did it with a dummy, to disprove it, but they inadvertantly showed that it works really well, as long as a cross draft doesn't flip it over. They had to scramble to try to explain it, and they realized it was just like the way that cats and squirrels can fall from virtually any height and survive well enough to run away. When they spread out their limbs, they have a lot of wind resistance, and so, when falling they reach their maximum speed within the first ten feet or so. As long as they can balance and stay spread eagled, they can literally fall from any height. The raft thing acts much the same way.
Except they also showed that it will flip over, because, unlike a parachute, rafts don't have holes in them to allow for air flow. They mentioned that it would be almost impossible to hold on to the raft as it flips on its way down.
the guy who showed them aboard the plane was played by Dan Aykroyd

It's ok to give every movie a fair shot, but the Indi Trilogy came out over an EIGHT YEAR period. #4 didn't come out till NINETEEN years later, and #5 was 15 years after #4.
Giving 4 & 5 a fair shot is just as important as being aware how separated the movies are from the main trilogy.

One bit that's kind of hard to spot: the opening titles identify the film as being set in 1935, which means it's actually a prequel to Raiders which was in 1936. And the more you think about it, the more sense it makes, as we see Indy go from a guy not all that different from Belloq who only wants "fortune and glory," to genuinely caring about the history of the artifacts he finds, which will serve him well during the Ark trip. Plus, after screwing up his "just shoot the sword guy" trick here, he'll do it properly next year.
Actually, it makes no sense at all since in Raiders Indy says he doesn’t believe in magic when a year before, in this movie, he is a witness to and uses magic to dispatch of Mola Ram; plus...
[SPOILERS for The Last Crusade]
... Last Crusade establishes that Indy was NOT interested in monetary gains as a child and basically had the same values and morals as he did as an adult in Raiders (Highly unlikely he would have switched from one end of the spectrum to the o to or twice in his life)

Loved the reaction! This is the first Indiana Jones movie I remember seeing. It's burned in my brain...in a good way.
Any time I'm in a moving out of control vehicles or I "Ride" something down that's falling I always say to myself "Hang on lady, we going for a ride."

Funny thing is that this movie is made to be a prequel to Raiders as this is happening one year prior.
I didn't hate the 4th one as much as I was told I would.
I saw it before anyone could tell me I was supposed to hate it, so I didn't, and now I'm stuck having the wrong opinion about it.
I have a feeling I wont be hating any of them
@@OGBReacts I can't say how it was for others, but after over a decade since the near perfection that was 'The last Crusade', expectations were high, maybe too high, but then again, I saw some Indy-wannabees that I had more fun watching and that includes one of my guilty pleasures 'Firewalker' (1986). But there were other let downs, which I won't go into for spoiler reasons, from some of them we were right to expect better.

Funny thing about you saying "This is the second time Indy has faced a big guy like this," they're actually the same actor. Which of course means he was in brownface here, which you'd never see these days.

When I saw you had posted this, I had to LOL cause I thought- Man I just know she's gonna freak out over the gross Dinner scene, and the ton of bugs scene!😮 And you did, and it was too funny Sam! Mind you, most everyone in the theaters watching it, gagged on those scenes lol. I hate most bugs myself lol. I'd take the Tarantulas from the first movie over the damn bugs. Back when this got to Tv, I watched a few times but always had to close my eyes at those scenes. 🙈🙈 I honestly was just watching for HF by thst point. I didn't like 'Willie' at all, she was a huge pain during 90% of it. It's my least favorite of the 5. Was fun watching your reaction Sam!😂 Enjoy your weekend!
I like this one, only wish they didn't have the character Willy Scott. Think I heard that the only reason Kate Capshaw got the roll was because she was married to the director (Steven Spielberg). Not sure but like I said that's what I heard years ago.
To me the "magic" stuff people hate the fourth movie for is no more ridiculous than the "magic" involved with the Ark. Just enjoy the ride. :)
1. Many folks don't care for this one very much but I do. It's all kinds of fun.
2. Just a couple small suspensions of belief regarding the lifeboat drop out of the plane, and the coal car landing perfectly on the tracks.🙄
3. IRL Ford could fly that plane.
4. When I was in the US Navy I got to eat monkey (but not monkey brains) and tasted dog in the Philippines.

I'm just gonna say that I think the fifth movie is the second-best in the series. I genuinely can't understand people who don't like it. Point being, I really hope you watch all five.
I really enjoyed it, especially when Indy realizes the twist.
'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' is actually my least favourite of the trilogy. 'Temple Of Doom' and 'Last Crusade' switch places all the time. A bit like 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return Of The Jedi.'
I get the sneaking suspicion that OGB doesn't like bugs 🐛 🐞 🐝 🤔

@OGBReacts good, because like the fourth Indy movie Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I thought the 3rd Terminator Rise of the Machines was not as bad as everyone else was making it out to be. Not great but it was fine. I saw the fourth, Salvation, and didn't love but definitely didn't hate it either. It got an OK from me. I've not seen the most recent installments, Genisys or Dark Fate but if you're willing to give em a shot, so will I.

I remember not being impressed with this film when it came out, Short Round and Kate both coming across as annoying rather than relevant. Nearly 40 years later and I'm still not impressed with this film. It's a great example of how you can take a great idea/character and make it not work.
Typically, I absolutely love dark 80s movies, especially ones that are somewhat kid friendly, like Return To Oz, but I go back and forth on this one. Between the cringey racist depictions and, well, Willy, I feel like ordering some pakoras, vindaloo and papadums and switching teams. If every woman was like Willy, I might actually consider going full on Birdcage. I think Spielberg was going through a divorce at the time, so that's where the dark tone and the annoying female love interest comes from. That doesn't explain all the racist depictions of Indians and Japanese people, but I can still get some fun out of it. When he smacks the kid, that was awesome. He was getting a little annoying. The way Indy "embraces evil" is kind of hilarious. Don't worry, if you weren't crazy about this one, Last Crusade is excellent and a lot of fun. I'd stop there though. It's like a love letter to Indiana Jones fans, without getting into spoilers. The casting alone is great. Indiana Jones works best when he deals with biblical artifacts for some reason. I'm not religious, but that seems to be the case. But there's still some stuff here I like. Harrison Ford is great. You'll love the next one. Don't sleep on it. It's that good and that much fun. Raiders for me is the best technically, but Last Crusade is infectious. You won't regret it.

Seriously those last two are not good. Crystal Skull is at least watchable but that last one sucked purple goat D.
Apart from Willie Scott being very annoying, this and the fourth film completely fail the "So what?" test. While being despicable, if the bad guys won what's the consequences? Nobody says. Unlike in 1 and 3 when the stakes are: Nazis take over the world! Likewise in 4 the stakes are equally unclear, you can just say "So what?" No stakes = no tension.
(I haven't seen 5 and I lack any desire to.)
This movie is a prequel. If you notice the year this movie takes place is before the year that Raiders takes place. I love this movie. The only thing I hate is Willie. I hate women that are high maintenance and are like the Princess from the pebble in the mattress story. “Oh I broke a nail” I hate women like that. She is the exact opposite of Mariam which is a woman I did like.
Yeah, they really regressed their portrayal of women in the this film, a completely one dimensional character. Together with the addition of a child, it's the reason I think I've only seen this once and would switch over every time it came on TV.

This movie sucks, and that obnoxious woman is half the reason. The next one is a lot better.
