Hi Nia!😊 It took me multiple viewings to realize the same actor that plays Allan's dad is also Van Pelt the hunter. I guess Van Pelt is Allan's representation of his dad in the game. They both talk to Allan about becoming a man. In this new reality the soul man would not have been fired and his sneaker would have turned the town around, and it would be prosperous in the present. I know you saw at least one of the sequels. There are two. You should watch the second sequel "Jumanji: The Next Level" (2019) if you haven't seen it. It has some very clever writing. Great reactions to the original Jumanji, Nia!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

The postal worker line when dude was buying the weapon was some dark humor. It was in reference to being a mass shooter. Back in the day an infamous mass shooting occured at a post office with the shooter being an ex postal worker. It's also where the term "going postal" generated from.

  • @BigGator5

"A hunter from the darkest wild / Makes you feel just like a child."
    "What is it?"
    "Van Pelt."
Fun Fact: The film was made into a board game by MB Games in 1996 and it was re-released in 2018.
Double Duty Fact: The dual casting of Jonathan Hyde as both Alan's father and the antagonistic hunter Van Pelt is similar to the theatrical custom of Peter Pan, with George Darling and Captain Hook being played by the same actor.
Crocodile Hunter Fact: Robin Williams told a story about filming the scene where Alan wrestles a crocodile. He said that in one take he got a little carried away and thumped the crocodile with his elbow, forgetting that there was a man inside the suit. He heard a voice inside the crocodile yell "Hey!" in protest.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: Van Pelt's (Jonathan Hyde) hunting rifle is a Winchester M1901 rifle, highly modified with an amended stock (complete with a custom checkered pattern and cheek cushion), a false box magazine, a rear sight, a large tube placed over the barrel with a foresight, and muzzle "bell" in order to make it appear to be an elephant gun. When it runs out of ammunition, which cannot be replenished since it's been discontinued since 1903, he ends up replacing it with a Daewoo USAS-12 CQ outfitted with an unusually large scope, a drum magazine, and a suppressor to make it look like a sniper rifle.
Location Location Fact: Keene, NH substituted for the fictional town of Brantford. Frank's Barber Shop is a featured setting as well as the Parrish Shoe sign, which was painted for the film. Robin Williams was beloved by Keene townsfolk during filming. He was even presented with the keys to the city by Keene's mayor in 1994. After his death in 2014, Keene residents crafted a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles below the Parrish Shoes sign, and even organized a public screening of the film. The Sir-Save-A-Lot sequence was shot in Tsawwassen, BC, at what was then the open-air Delta Fair Mall. The store had been Liquidation World before it closed. At the time of filming, the store was vacant, and although the exterior was repaired after the movie was shot, the store never re-opened. The mall has since been redeveloped, with Safeway the anchor tenant until 2016, when Safeway closed and was replaced by Save-On Foods. The Liquidation World in the old mall was along the west perimeter of the new mall, which is now a parking lot.

I'm not sure if you noticed or not (probably not) but in The Rock's Jumanji movie actually takes place where Alan was stuck all of those years after getting sucked into the game. If you watch the movie again you'll see some references to Alan Parrish. When that movie was coming out I just assumed it'd be a reboot but I guess it's an actual sequel. I enjoyed that one too but this will always be my favorite and what I think of when someone says Jumanji.

You mentioned the kevin Hart and Rock Jumanji. If you remember, when that movie starts, the dad finds it on the beach. Right where we just saw it left. Then, when his kid rejects it because it's a board game, then it turns itself into a video game to modernize with the times. That's all within first few min of the movie so you might have forgotten that part. Also if you watched the third one Nora's is the name of the restaurant. That's what happens to Aunt Nora since she doesn't have to raise the kids. She opens a restaurant. So even the third movie ties back into the first movie.

Alan and Sarah both have had their issues, but telling you side with the feels and not the male who's been trapped in a dangerous magical board game jungle for 26 years. Actually a REALLY good allegory for men and women IRL. Women's issues come from being coddled to heavily into complete delusion while men are thrown into the jungle of reality. Both with their issues, but can we all collectively (mainly women) admit that maybe JUST MAYBE women have had it just the tiniest bit harder in pretty much all of history.
