"So, tell me why you were late to work again?" "Well, you see, Weird Al uploaded a new, but old video. And there were like four versions of it playing at the same time." "Right..." "I was trying to decide on my favourite, but I couldn't stop watching. They were all so...tacky."
I have to admit I'm astonished that nobody's performance is the same from take to take. They all clearly decided "I will go to these places and I will use these moves," but did them improvisationally as they performed. I guess if it was me I'd have to have a more definite plan in my head what I'd do, so one take to another would be much the same. I think this shows both that a certain type of performer gravitates toward Al, and that they're all exceptionally talented people.
I love how all the other people were doing fairly different things in each take, but Al is doing pretty much the exact same thing, down to time and movements in each take. He knew what he wanted to do and stuck with it. Also must say, all the takes are good, but you made the right choice with which take made the final cut.
@@Stratelier I agree! Correct me if Im wrong but they are the only two musical artists in that group, makes me wonder if their creative mind works differently than the actors creative mind

Thank you Al, you brought my Christmas present early... Kinda disappointed that it's not a 2000 inch TV but this will definitely hold me over another year.
I remember going to see him at the Fox theater in Atlanta some years ago and he started the show with this song. They had a camera on him backstage and he was performing to it, walking through the halls until, towards the end, he burst out into the crowd from behind and performed down the aisle up onto the stage. It blew my mind!
very confused why you’re here but also quite happy that you enjoy Mr Yankovic. Have a good day now analyzing the pixels of riggy’s left earlobe to figure out the toon turf lore.
Having a cloning machine would've really simplified the shoot. As it was he had to run down 6 flights of stairs and get changed between his bits at the beginning and the end, for every take (since Kristen Schaal was using the elevator).
1:45 How did I never notice that kristen schaal is wearing the same style of shirt that sarah lynn wears in a few bojack episodes? And funnily enough this video came out first!
Wow. Just wow. Any one of them would be perfect for release in my eyes! Everyone is brilliant in it. Thanks for uploading it and making me go cross-eyed!
2:40 I saw Weird Al perform this album live and they started the concert with this video on a big screen and had a perfect transition between the vid of Al dancing outside to a live shot of him backstage and then he came out in the same outfit.
A truly impressive video to have been shot in one take. The amount of time spent planning the blocking must have taken a long time. Also cool to see Maude Lebowski's apartment in it's natural state. Hilarious to see the cameraman trying to get out of the shot outside the door at the end of Jack's bit on the upper right take.
@@VeritasUnae No Doubt. If this video were made today, it probably would have been stitched together digitally from several takes, because we can now do that. I see through your view increasing tactic, Mr. Yankovic, and I am here to watch this at least four times through, looking at each corner video to see what they are, then maybe one or two more to try to 'multiview' and spot all the little differences, just like the good little robosheep I am. :)
How come this guy never worked togather with Mel Brooks and even Jack Black? Just for little context, their collaborations basically would've been like;"peanut butter, meet jelly"! Right guys?
Glad to see this re-uploaded! I think I left a comment on the final version last year asking was this version still online anywhere. I never spotted the crew member in the upper right version before.
Al and Jack Black: Clearly know what they want to do, although Jack has 2 variations of how to get down a hallway. Aisha Taylor, Margaret Cho, and Kristen Schaal: Have a pretty consistent idea, although the exact moves differ a bunch. Aisha I think flubs the lip-syncing on some of them, although not badly. Eric Stonestreet: Trying all sorts of things. I wish we had gotten one of his more active takes in the final cut, but I can understand why you couldn't.
This is like the the musical _Seven Brides for Seven Brothers_ where they filmed each scene twice with entirely different cameras because they didn't know which technology would win out. They filmed in both widescreen 1.75:1 and in Cinemascope 2.35:1, and filmed takes separately with minor changes depending on the format for the scene to fit within--frame. Apparently it's most pronounced in the barn-raising scenes due to the complex dance routine.
This was our FAVOURITE movie as kids! Our cousins would come from out of province and we of course had watched it so many times and learned every line, each had characters and would say our lines as the movie played on.. we learned the dance scenes and would sing and dance all around our grandparent's basement! Our grandmother and Aunties would sneak down and watch us from the steps. They loved it! Our speciality (being mostly girls) was June Bride. When our cousin got married we went and bought fake flowers like my grandmother had and we performed it at her wedding, complete with singing and dancing but exactly how we did as kids, prancing around throwing the fake flowers back and forth while we sang and danced, believing we had learned the choreography but as adults knowing we hadn't lol she sobbed. Everyone loved it, especially our Aunties who watched us perform this so many times as kids. The wedding was in June of course and we gifted her Plutarch's Lives and the Bible, like Milly's father had. It was beautiful. ❤
