    You could have made a 1200dpi BITMAP without the text, then open the file in Illustrator and add the text. You'll get clean vector lettering with high quality halftones. That a tip for those who can't afford a RIP.

    • @zachary_attackery
      @zachary_attackery 7 років тому +15

      That's what I just did. You actually don't even need to do it in illustrator, I did it all in photoshop. I made a 300dpi bitmap halftone of an image, saved it, then reopened it (it stayed as a halftone image but I could now switch to RGB or whatever other image mode so the text isn't fuzzy) and just used the text tool to put new text over it and added a logo I had a vector file of. The logo and text were completely sharp and the halftone dots were so small you couldn't even tell if they were perfectly round or not. I basically got the same result you would get from using RIP software.

      Hey! I’m responding to an old comment, but that’s what I was wondering the whole time I was watching the video. I had an “huh??” face the whole time. Wtf would I pay for a rip software if it’s really all about dpi?? On the gradient rolloff, controlling the greys using levels, curves, layer masking and a soft brush should give similar results. I don’t understand the benefits unless you’re inexperienced in editing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Bitmap is the best quality you'll ever have for a halftone. I've been a film separator for 25 years, and I've always used the setting in Photoshop from 1200 to 1800 dpi. We used a scanner called a leaf, that has been known to go to 2540 dpi bitmap. We received New York City's first digital film output printer at Speed Graphics, and still kept the Agfa's, since the bitmap output was incomparably crisp to the highest quality. I am also 100% sure that any vector image will sit comfortably at 1200 to 1800 dpi. I am also sure that Photoshop has black density settings that can be accessed from profiles, or if one has the time, set up custom profiles for certain clients, and jobs.

      Which printer should I use to make positive with dense black and accurate output of dimensions?

    • @shortvideos-xe1yr
      @shortvideos-xe1yr 3 роки тому +2

      @@yashkshirsagar3273 The two printers you should consider that provide dense blacks for positive screen outputs are the Epson Artisan 1430 and the Canon Pixma ix6820. The Epson 1430 comes with rip software and cost around $1,600 while the Canon ix6820 offers higher resolution and costs around $250 - $400. Some screen printing shops consider the Epson Artisan 1430 as industry standard, but seriously use your own judgment.

      The only think do must to do is divided of your count mesh thread by 3 and you get your HALFTONE screen in lpi.
      I your case 110 divided by 3 is equal to about 35 lpi (lines per inch) HALFTONE...

      Hey there! For halftones, we would suggest using a 230 mesh screen or higher so that you can get the proper detail out of your halftones. Water based inks work best with halftones given their viscosity, so our Green Galaxy line would work perfectly!

    If I have a black and white gradient design for a t shirt I would like printing; for examples sake say - a picture of a woman that I have just applied a black and white filter to and adjusted slightly. When I get a quote from a screen printer, will this be the same price as just a single color print (as they are only using one color of ink) or more as they may have to make more than one screen? Sorry for my vagueness I really don't know much about the process haha

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  8 років тому

      +Dan Wiles Every screen printer does things a little differently. If you're printing a black and white image onto a white shirt, the print would be black only. If you're printing the image onto a dark colored garment, it may need a coat of underbase so that the image shows up better. In the case of the dark garment, the printer would need to print 2 colors, white and black. Give your local printer a call and they will have more info for you. If you need help finding a printer near you, check out our screen printer directory here: printers.screenprinting.com/

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  2 роки тому

      Happy Friday, @Blessed Clothing. There's a handful of variables. Couple things i would look at right off the bat. 1. how is you image colored in your art software? Is 100% of color or solid Pantone color? 2. When you were in your print dialogue, what were you seeing as far as what was going to print out? pint preview can help you see what in the image is still colored w/ CMYK. 3. Are you using the RIP or going straight to the printer? This video uses a RIP called Accu-rip. If set up correctly, when you print your design you should see in your printer options a printer called "accurip to 3270" or "accurip to *whatever your printer is". You need to select that printer to take advantage of the rip properties. Hope this helps!

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  7 років тому

      The grey you see are the halftones discussed in this video - this creates a greyscale affect, a gradient like the sunset,, if you will. If you need a solid image with no gradient, then the darkest black possible is necessary. This gives you a solid printable area.

    • @hesperhurt
      @hesperhurt 4 роки тому

      Don't use rip. Just work large scale in Photoshop and use the halftone bmp setting or halftone filter.
      The cracked edges and stray pixels in the vid are down to no prep to the image, no post-processing and working at low resolution.

  • @alanaspalace4161
    @alanaspalace4161 3 роки тому

    I have photoshop and illustrator. I will hopefully buy a rip down the line. But say I am just doing a cartoon design. Not a simulated process. Like Bart Simpson for example. I dont need to bitmap or add halftones, right? I can just do my color seps, export to illustrator. and print. Or do I need to manually add halftones or buy a rip before I print anything.

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  3 роки тому

      If you have any greyscale elements - tones of color or areas that are not 100% solid - you need a way to create halftones. After that - you just need to make sure your printer can create a film that stops UV light so you can properly expose your screen. Rip software automatically does all of that.

    We spent huge money on Adobe Creative Suite, $500 for Accurip really
    seems like it might be overkill. Is there a different approach to Rip that can be accomplished from Adobe CS?

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  7 років тому +1

      There is no other approach this easy! : ) In terms of halftones, Accurip does all the work for you! And it generates perfectly. It pays for itself 10 times over in the time you save. You can see the difference in this video ; )

    what mesh number to use for this kind of art work? and since it very fine detail do i need specific kind of emulsion and how to washed

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  8 років тому +1

      +Nattapon Lohajoti No specific emulsion is needed to create half tones. However when printing, your screen mesh is very important. The higher your mesh count, the more fine detail you will be able to retain in your prints. 230 mesh is a great middle ground for retaining half tone detail and still getting a good amount of ink through the screen. If you're looking to print higher detail, like photography quality, you might want to use a 300 mesh and think of thinning your ink. Thanks for watching.

  • @kamilizwan163

      +zack haikal In the video he mentioned it was a 305 mesh count to capture the high detail. These are currently on sale at screenprinting.com, check it out: www.screenprinting.com/aluminum-screen-with-305-yellow-mesh-20x24

    You really don't need rip software folks. This is a simple advertisement masquerading as a tutorial.
    Create a high resolution image, at twice real scale (if printing 8x10 create a 16x20 image). Anything around 300dpi will be fine.
    Now... either use the Photoshop or Gimp halftone filter or render it as a halftone bitmap as shown in the video.
    Save your image file.
    Open a new canvas (same size/dpi as before). Paste your halftone image.
    Add text.
    Cleanup speckles/random pixels as needed around your pasted image.
    Print it.
    Rip software is only worth it if you're running batch conversions, have low skill staff handling transparency printing or your dealing with 6+ colour prints at large format. If the latter then I'd suggest you look at other methods to screen anyway... unless they're high profit art prints.
    Nothing to gain from this comment. Just sharing my experience of screen printing and digital design over 22 years 👍

    • @Ryonet

      With a rip software, this will be automated. Any colors will be separated into the 4 cmyk channels. As for manually doing this, unfortunately, we don't have a video on this. There should be videos in youtube on how to manually create halftones in Photoshop :)

  • @SouthernMedicRN

    Corel Draw handles this so easier. It handles Vector and Bitmap with ease. With accurip you cannot see or edit the final output or even see it before going to print. If you want to make it even more simple, use Simple Seps with Corel. The end results are far superior to Adobe with far less spent than Accurip.

    Do all computer designs need to be converted to half tone

    • @Ryonet
      @Ryonet  2 роки тому +1

      good morning @C D. For the screen print application, halftones are a series of dots that range in size to create a gradient look in the image. helps create depth in the design. Not all designs will be half-toned. Spot color designs are solid, think text and solid images and logos. Hope that helps!

      +Gasolo Salima Thank you so much for watching! A lot of the screen printing process can be outsourced until you're more attuned to each step. If you are already printing, I would recommend taking a class on graphic design to get some basics in order. There are lots of great sites in addition to UA-cam for this, like Lynda.com :)

    What I'm saying is that if your inkjet printer has 1400 dpi max... Then make your film output (halftone screen especially) at 1400 dpi.... Not "difficult"

    False advertising. We can do vector text in Photoshop. Dishonest and disgraceful product placement. Why not get 1200DPI? Text in different layer? Adjust layer a little bit? Try to sell overprice RIP software when it is doable in Photoshop. All RIP software do the same thing - convert your image bitmap.
