If you pour a cup or 2 of vinegar in to the pump along with 2 cups of vinegar upright on the racks as shown in this video and let the dishwasher pump soak for an hour before starting the dishwasher it will remove the scale that builds up in the pump as well. The mineral deposits form a layer of scale on the pump impellers and other parts that you can't see. This scale is the cause of most dishwasher leaks, drain issues and poor cleaning results. I usually don't recommend having dishes in it, as vinegar can damage some dishes. You can't use too much vinegar and it can soak in the pump for hours, it won't hurt it. Just wanted to share to this already wonderful video.

If you ever clean a coffee pot with vinegar, use that hot vinegar to pour and soak as you suggested in dishwasher, after you start the cycle, which will drain first then fill, after the fill that is when I prefer to pour in more fresh vinegar in addition to a few upright cups. You really need to do this with an empty dishwasher, so the jets can focus on scrubbing the interior walls and corners of the machine that buildup residue overtime. The most effective way to clean your dishwasher is this right here. Empty your dishwasher or do this right after you unload it, empty a lemonade mix packet or any flavor that contains citric acid into the detergent dispenser and fill it to the top, and fill the pre wash compartment with it as well. Close your dispenser, fill a few cups of vinegar and place them upright in the upper rack of the dishwasher, and let her rip. Set it on the longest and hottest cycle possible

I am going to try this because I have terrible city water that leaves white residue no matter what, my machine doesn’t dispense enough rinse agent during the final rinse to combat the untreated water. So I’m hoping this will work using it alongside my regular detergent in the main cup.

@@kd_enterprise3404 No it’s an apartment complex and they certainly for sure don’t have softeners, it’s the most extreme hard water I’ve ever used and after showers your left feeling as dry as the Sahara desert it’s terrible water. Thanks you too!
@@Goldenwoodz oh that’s terrible, does your hot water come from a centralized location or does each apartment have a water heater? If your place has its own you could install a softener before the hot water heater… otherwise ya, not good…. When my softener failed I know exactly what you mean about the shower…. My water is safe to drink but if I make coffee I use distilled water… a gallon or 4 litres is 1 dollar.. I don’t buy cups of coffee and drinks from stores so I justify the expense…. I don’t think that water is good for you…
The cup is a nice idea. I'd think you would want to add the vinegar after the pre wash cycle so it has a longer time to act. And not with dishes that need to be cleaned. I have scale on the heater and even direct vinegar and scotch brite pad have little effect.
Thank you for the great comment, I agree if this about a really dirty scaled dishwasher, and understand the cycles it would be best to only use ONLY vinegar, no dishes, and as a matter of fact use 4 times more vinegar and preheat the vinegar in a kettle and put in directly in at the right time for the longest cycle. When I made this video the biggest issue was a white residue on the actual dishes due to the water being too hard or water softener not working the best or low on salt. So the purpose was a kinda general approach to clean the white haze off dishes that did not take much thought or hassle for the standard person.. good points.. thanks...
Hi k&d enterprise, thank you for answering my question. So I was thinking the liquid rinse served as a detergent for my dishwasher. This might explain why some did not clean well and why it did not fill up properly in the detergent dispenser thing.🤷🏽♀️ okay so I got that part . Now in this video your cup of vinegar cleaned not only the dishes but also the door so what about the stuff on bottom in the back of the dishwasher wich I just saw l had even after the vinegar. Am I supposed to take out the filters or do all dishwashers have filters?? Lots of questions hope you can help👌🤗
Most dishwashers do not have a filter, just the screen inside at bottom which is visible.. if the dishwasher drains all the water out when done all is good. On my dishwasher the door that opens has the two areas which you put the powder type detergent in. The round thing holds the rinse aid.. If your washer is still dirty,, DO THIS.. but you have to listen to the washer because I can't give a timing.. 1. DO NOT put dishes in. 2. Do not use any detergent. 3. Start the dishwasher, you will hear it fill, wash for perhaps 10 minutes then it actually will drain to put new water in, let it fill and listen for it to start washing again. Pre Heat or heat up about 4-8 cups of vinegar in a tea kettle, open the door during the wash cycle and pour it directly in. close door and walk away let it finish up. If you are unsure about timing, just wait about 25 minutes then pour in the kettle of pre heated vinegar....

I have to admit I was doing it wrong, the good thing is that I normally don't use the dishwasher im old fashion and hand wash but im tired of big pots so im going to start again, thanks for the video I need to get residue out of the dishwasher before i start using it again lol
that is interesting, I have never had that issue. I hope someone can help, until then I'd check to see if its just gooopped up for a lack of better words.. open it up and spray vinegar on it and all around the assembly... let it soak and do it again a few times. spray the little lever also where you can manually open it.... I'll do some checking in the mean time.. let me know.. plus after you soak with vinegar do a quick cycle with the cover open....
Bad wax motor if you have a digital control panel, or if it’s fully mechanical from the timer then something could be wrong between the timer and the mechanism leading down to the dispenser.
What is the little round thing on the door of the dishwasher. I unscrewed it easily and it’s full of stuff. Can it be cleaned with a cleaner or is it a sensitive part that I need to do it manually.?
the little round thing holds the rinse aid.(that blue liquid stuff).. you should not have to clean that unless someone has put something in they should not have.
Why is the mug that held the vinegar not in the bottom right corner( where you put it for cleaning) when you open it up for reveal? Hmmmmmmmm..but I do think vinegar works on an empty cycle ...followed by another empty cycle of 1 cup of baking soda.

Keiko Bushnell yes, for sure. When u start it the first cycle it will drain cycle even if empty... once it fills then dump in... .. great point for others...thanks for the comment..

This might be regional, but I've never seen a dishwasher with a hot water intake, though I know they exist. If your DW is hooked up to only one cold water line, no need to warm up your hot water line by running the sink first.
Can’t say for sure, only what comes to mind… if you are on a well system sometimes black water and dirt from the pipes break loose, the other thought would be an iron removal system, or carbon filter the was regenerating while you were washing dishes… perhaps someone else has an idea…
yes, its just water.. all the vinegar has been replaced with water.. some people notice my cup is not in the washer when done.. that is because late in the final cycle i dump it out so it gets cleaned up.
Lol I just responded to a similar question, basically on the final rinse cycle I dumped the cup because it had a bunch of hard water deposits sitting in it… thanks for asking! I turned it over to clean it also so I did not have a cup of dirty water after…
If it’s contained within the machine you should be fine… but I believe you would have conflict with acidity and alkaline detergent… for example chlorine and a strong acid would make a very bad gas.. 💀…. What I would do, add a few cups of vinegar first. Let it run through…. Listen and wait for it to drain and then add the soap…
Kara Kelley sure, add it mid cycle while the water is hot, as long as it gets 10 minutes in there, if you do it that way I’d just pour a few cups directly in.

If you use 1. dishwasher salt, 2. the anti-stain liquid (don't know the English term of it) 3. a ALL IN ONE TABLET 4. Use a washing cycle without prewashing or whatever you call it Then your dishwasher will be always clean. I mean clean like new.
For this specific dishwasher the filter is not hidden, it’s simply a mesh on the bottom right below the main washer bar.. it’s a big circle below.. no mystery, in full view.... you can just clean the debris off screen, or give it a lite scrub, it does not normally come out..

Nah, when it was near the end of cycle I dumped it out so the cup would be cleaned... thanks for watching, if your washer is really dirty, let it fill and run for a minute, then just directly pour two cups in the bottom, you could even pre heat vinegar in a kettle..... I did the cup thing because if you put the vinegar in at the start before the washer fills it actually does a drain cycle first = no vinegar... so ya,, let it fill, start washing, open, dump vinegar close and let it continue... thanks for watching...
You might have noticed my cup disappeared, mine also had grit in it, that’s the buildup of hard water deposits… on the final rinse I dumped the cup out… so very normal and shows the process worked to some degree… thanks for watching….
Thanks for the video! Running hot water is unnecessary and ineffective if your dishwasher is connected to the cold water line as many (most?) are. The element heats the water rather than having the hot water come from the household hot water tank which then has to heat up new cold water.
Dishwashers are supposed to be connected to the hot water supply not the cold. The heating element is only supplemental and is supposed to raise the hot water to 140-160 degrees.
At least in the U.S. most dishwaters are installed on a hot water line but during the first 15 minutes or so for the pre wash the water will likely not actually be coming in hot and the heating element in the dishwater wont be in effect either which is why it is a good idea to run some hot water first, otherwise the pre wash is just using cold water.
toss about a 1/3 cup tang orange drink powder and run thru a cycle and the inside will look like new......we do it all the time at work at the apartments ..real time saver..
DONT use vinegar. I used vinegar and then after a few washes, dishwasher refused to worked properly. On opening apart the dishwasher i found that magnetic induction motor’s seal wore out and it leaked the ferrofluid inside it. The ferrofluid got out and gunk got inside. On further research i found this is due to vinegar wearing out the seals. Best way is to buy the finish dishwasher cleaner. That thing is mild and especially made for this. Just use it once every once in a while, thats the best maintenance u can do to your dishwasher.
If you set up the water softner that is inside every dishwasher you never gona have limescale there! And buy cascade platinum us detergent it even clean your filter!
at the beginning i saw the cup with vinegar in the dishwasher but when you open after the end of washing the cup is not there. So....what is the trick?

You don't make clear how many times you run the dishwasher. Do you put in the vinegar and run the dishwasher and then follow the next two steps. CLR instructs to pour the CLR into the bottom of the dishwasher.
Well let me say this, if you monitor the process, if using vinegar or CLR. Don’t put it in right away, start your dishwasher and listen, it does a short rinse and drains after 10 minutes, just add after that a d walk away.. if you just pour it in then start a cycle, guess what, the first thing it does is drain your cleaner out and refill. The reason I use the cup.. most people don’t what I just told you and or don’t want to spend time listening to the dishwasher to understand.
Lala Lo by the time the wash is in progress the vinegar is replaced by water, many noticed the cup “disappeared” by the end of video.. it did not disappear I simply dumped it out later in the cycle so the cup would be clean and not full of dirty water..
I'm very allergic to vinegar. Next suggestion? I'm not going to have my throat close just to get a clean dishwasher. I will handwash. Its cheaper than an ER visit.
That’s interesting, so you must be allergic to lemons, or all canned goods like tomato soup etc.. my best suggestion would be to get a whole home reverse osmosis water purification... it removes all the hard water deposits so these type of build ups on dishwashers, coffee, tea and kettles does not occur in the first place... prevention should be your goal... or have someone else clean your stuff and rinse well...
@@kd_enterprise3404 Thanks for your suggestion. Im not allergic to lemons or canned foods that don't include vinegar. I do however have to read every label on foods and know what I'm eating at all times. Its frustrating. Im also very allergic to cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. All are air borne allergies as well as consuming these. I miss yellow mustard soooo much. The only condiment I can eat is soy sauce.
@@YoMama9021 glass does NOT melt at that high of a Temperature. It melts at much lower dear. 1400 degrees Fahrenheit not Celsius. The temperature you're talking about would be 2500 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, remember Celsius is lower than Fahrenheit
So you have to babysit your dish washer or you get a cup full of disgusting water? well fairly clean water with food particles in the bottom of the cup. I watched you video hoping to learn something. I have been waiting for the rinse cycle to start and adding vinegar for years but was hoping someone had made some sort of a dosing pump triggered off the rinse aid dispenser to pump a cup of vinegar into the dish washer at the proper time.
hoeman1974 you don’t have to babysit, but yes you end up with a dirty cup, but I usually dump it half way through. Probably the most effective way for now until is babysitting. If you still have build up use more vinegar without using any soap, add after you hear it drain each time.
@@kd_enterprise3404 I plan to use the power that runs to the rinse aid dispenser which I think is 120 volts I am going to run a small 12 volt power supply and power a new replacement windshield washer pump they sell at a local surplus store for 4 bucks. I will run one line though a hole I drill in the cap of a gallon jug of vinegar and the other I will tap into the rinse aid dispenser or through another plastic fitting in the stainless tub. I will test run the dish washer once with the line ran into a bucket to see just how much and when the rinse aid trigger pumps to see how much vinegar will be used. if it too much I may restrict the flow if its not enough I may add a time delay relay to the circuit. Not sure how handy you are but this could be a topic for a real sparkling clean dishes hack.

@@kd_enterprise3404 My test dish washer will be my main dish washer. My dishes don't come clean enough for me unless I use vinegar in every load. I have a water softener but it just doesn't work good enough for me. I like my dishes to always be sparkling. So as it sits I babysit my dish washer during every load. if I just put vinegar in at the start my dishes would never be as clean as I like. It has to go in the rinse cycle. I will never understand why the manufacturers don't include a system that adds detergent and rinse aid along with vinegar and and other cleaning additive you would like from multi use containers. I guess that just makes too much sense.

I really did like the video but I just could not resist commenting about the missing cup. I just followed your instructions and the dishes and silverware came out great. I hope someone can help, until then I'd check to see if its just gooopped up for a lack of better words.. open it up and spray vinegar on it and all around the assembly... let it soak and do it again a few times. spray the little lever also where you can manually open it.... I'll do some checking in the mean time.. let me know.. plus after you soak with vinegar do a quick cycle with the cover open....

Bad wax motor if you have a digital control panel, or if it’s fully mechanical from the timer then something could be wrong between the timer and the mechanism leading down to the dispenser.

the little round thing holds the rinse aid.(that blue liquid stuff).. you should not have to clean that unless someone has put something in they should not have.

lol, good catch! I have identified 3 possibilities. 1.) I never put the cup in.. 2.) it disintegrated.. 3.) I did some poor video editing... lol.. Thanks for the comment. But yes it does work really well, especially for hard water deposits or that white film.. but do please use the cup method.

Vinegar is not the best for rubber gaskets, so you might get leaks after a few months. Better with citric acid. You only need about 1 or 2 teaspoons

That's a nice clean dishwasher.
This might be regional, but I've never seen a dishwasher with a hot water intake, though I know they exist. If your DW is hooked up to only one cold water line, no need to warm up your hot water line by running the sink first.

Can’t say for sure, only what comes to mind… if you are on a well system sometimes black water and dirt from the pipes break loose, the other thought would be an iron removal system, or carbon filter the was regenerating while you were washing dishes… perhaps someone else has an idea…

yes, its just water.. all the vinegar has been replaced with water.. some people notice my cup is not in the washer when done.. that is because late in the final cycle i dump it out so it gets cleaned up.

If it’s contained within the machine you should be fine… but I believe you would have conflict with acidity and alkaline detergent… for example chlorine and a strong acid would make a very bad gas.. 💀…. What I would do, add a few cups of vinegar first. Let it run through…. Listen and wait for it to drain and then add the soap…

Kara Kelley sure, add it mid cycle while the water is hot, as long as it gets 10 minutes in there, if you do it that way I’d just pour a few cups directly in.

1. dishwasher salt,
2. the anti-stain liquid (don't know the English term of it)
3. a ALL IN ONE TABLET
4. Use a washing cycle without prewashing or whatever you call it
Then your dishwasher will be always clean. I mean clean like new.

For this specific dishwasher the filter is not hidden, it’s simply a mesh on the bottom right below the main washer bar.. it’s a big circle below.. no mystery, in full view.... you can just clean the debris off screen, or give it a lite scrub, it does not normally come out..

Nah, when it was near the end of cycle I dumped it out so the cup would be cleaned... thanks for watching, if your washer is really dirty, let it fill and run for a minute, then just directly pour two cups in the bottom, you could even pre heat vinegar in a kettle..... I did the cup thing because if you put the vinegar in at the start before the washer fills it actually does a drain cycle first = no vinegar... so ya,, let it fill, start washing, open, dump vinegar close and let it continue... thanks for watching...

You might have noticed my cup disappeared, mine also had grit in it, that’s the buildup of hard water deposits… on the final rinse I dumped the cup out… so very normal and shows the process worked to some degree… thanks for watching….

Running hot water is unnecessary and ineffective if your dishwasher is connected to the cold water line as many (most?) are. The element heats the water rather than having the hot water come from the household hot water tank which then has to heat up new cold water.
Dishwashers are supposed to be connected to the hot water supply not the cold. The heating element is only supplemental and is supposed to raise the hot water to 140-160 degrees.
At least in the U.S. most dishwaters are installed on a hot water line but during the first 15 minutes or so for the pre wash the water will likely not actually be coming in hot and the heating element in the dishwater wont be in effect either which is why it is a good idea to run some hot water first, otherwise the pre wash is just using cold water.
toss about a 1/3 cup tang orange drink powder and run thru a cycle and the inside will look like new......we do it all the time at work at the apartments ..real time saver..

DONT use vinegar. I used vinegar and then after a few washes, dishwasher refused to worked properly. On opening apart the dishwasher i found that magnetic induction motor’s seal wore out and it leaked the ferrofluid inside it. The ferrofluid got out and gunk got inside. On further research i found this is due to vinegar wearing out the seals. Best way is to buy the finish dishwasher cleaner. That thing is mild and especially made for this. Just use it once every once in a while, thats the best maintenance u can do to your dishwasher.

yes it will work with plastic, its especially helpful if your actual cups and plates have any hard water build up..

You don't make clear how many times you run the dishwasher. Do you put in the vinegar and run the dishwasher and then follow the next two steps. CLR instructs to pour the CLR into the bottom of the dishwasher.
Well let me say this, if you monitor the process, if using vinegar or CLR. Don’t put it in right away, start your dishwasher and listen, it does a short rinse and drains after 10 minutes, just add after that a d walk away.. if you just pour it in then start a cycle, guess what, the first thing it does is drain your cleaner out and refill. The reason I use the cup.. most people don’t what I just told you and or don’t want to spend time listening to the dishwasher to understand.

Lala Lo by the time the wash is in progress the vinegar is replaced by water, many noticed the cup “disappeared” by the end of video.. it did not disappear I simply dumped it out later in the cycle so the cup would be clean and not full of dirty water..

I'm very allergic to vinegar. Next suggestion? I'm not going to have my throat close just to get a clean dishwasher. I will handwash. Its cheaper than an ER visit.
That’s interesting, so you must be allergic to lemons, or all canned goods like tomato soup etc.. my best suggestion would be to get a whole home reverse osmosis water purification... it removes all the hard water deposits so these type of build ups on dishwashers, coffee, tea and kettles does not occur in the first place... prevention should be your goal... or have someone else clean your stuff and rinse well...
@@kd_enterprise3404 Thanks for your suggestion. Im not allergic to lemons or canned foods that don't include vinegar. I do however have to read every label on foods and know what I'm eating at all times. Its frustrating. Im also very allergic to cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. All are air borne allergies as well as consuming these. I miss yellow mustard soooo much. The only condiment I can eat is soy sauce.

So you have to babysit your dish washer or you get a cup full of disgusting water? well fairly clean water with food particles in the bottom of the cup. I watched you video hoping to learn something. I have been waiting for the rinse cycle to start and adding vinegar for years but was hoping someone had made some sort of a dosing pump triggered off the rinse aid dispenser to pump a cup of vinegar into the dish washer at the proper time.
hoeman1974 you don’t have to babysit, but yes you end up with a dirty cup, but I usually dump it half way through. Probably the most effective way for now until is babysitting. If you still have build up use more vinegar without using any soap, add after you hear it drain each time.
@@kd_enterprise3404 I plan to use the power that runs to the rinse aid dispenser which I think is 120 volts I am going to run a small 12 volt power supply and power a new replacement windshield washer pump they sell at a local surplus store for 4 bucks. I will run one line though a hole I drill in the cap of a gallon jug of vinegar and the other I will tap into the rinse aid dispenser or through another plastic fitting in the stainless tub. I will test run the dish washer once with the line ran into a bucket to see just how much and when the rinse aid trigger pumps to see how much vinegar will be used. if it too much I may restrict the flow if its not enough I may add a time delay relay to the circuit. Not sure how handy you are but this could be a topic for a real sparkling clean dishes hack.

@@kd_enterprise3404 My test dish washer will be my main dish washer. My dishes don't come clean enough for me unless I use vinegar in every load. I have a water softener but it just doesn't work good enough for me. I like my dishes to always be sparkling. So as it sits I babysit my dish washer during every load. if I just put vinegar in at the start my dishes would never be as clean as I like. It has to go in the rinse cycle. I will never understand why the manufacturers don't include a system that adds detergent and rinse aid along with vinegar and and other cleaning additive you would like from multi use containers. I guess that just makes too much sense.

I really did like the video but I just could not resist commenting about the missing cup. I just followed your instructions and the dishes and silverware came out great. I also read elsewhere that a product called Lemi Shine and citric acid work. I ordered the Lemi Shine package from Amazon and it should be here tomorrow. More later. Cheers
