The Catch up drill made a huge reduction in strokes per length. Fins, when I was out of shape and building endurance, also helped make my form more planar. I now only use fins for drills. And my back, butt, legs are nicely planar. No more sinking.
Hi Robb - where should your hands be when out in front? Should they cross in slightly and be in the middle (i.e. in line with your spine) or straight out in front of you with no inward crossing? Thanks. Great vids btw.
BobbyT8 Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! Your hands should be directly in front of your shoulder to ensure that the water is coming down your arm and shoulder as one direct line. Sometimes to get this in line, you will feel like your hand is 2-3 inches outside your shoulder, this is normal. There is a funny little mantra that swimming is all about hydr-dynamics, but the body wants to follow basis bio-mechanics - not a good intersection. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything clarified. -Coach Robb
+davidmyers102 Strive to get your side and arm pit facing the bottom of the pool. This isn't realistic, but make that your visual goal. Please keep me posted on your progress. -Coach Robb
Hey coach Robb; I 've been taking swimming lesson for a year now. My kicking is ok, for some room for improvement. Learning to breath in the water. I don't know to crawl in the water yet, but learning. Now my private instructor is sending me deep water at the pool(using floating belt and kick board) to swim. He said I need more confidence in the water and not be so tense. If this is normal for a routine private lesson?
You need to.be confident and relaxed.. you will only master that with practice outside your comfort zone. I used to rely on a nose clip because I was afraid of choaking on water... that was a bad habit and I had to practise without until I became comfortable. Now I can flip with ease and control my breath for what position I need to be in the water. I watch alot of youtube swim vids. When i started I watched Swim to fly.. now I prefer Justin Patricks videos. Good luck Swimming isn't easy .. but its so worthwhile.

Hi how about freestyle swim?
Is there a rough estimate how many degrees of rotation is adequate?
