Hey Coach Robb, just wanted to say thanks for these great vids. I have always been a decent runner but an embarrisingly bad swimmer but these vids are teaching me a lot. Thanks for putting up quality content man.
Thanks for your message - please see if you can schedule a massage to get that arm worked on. It sounds like a tight muscle that gets worse as you use it. Please give it a shot and let me know if you get any better results. -Coach Robb
Caitlin-thank you for watching! Are you using paddles with the pull buoy? The paddles will increase the surface area of your hand and help you "pull" through the water. Please tap back when you get a moment and let me know if you are using paddles. -Coach Robb
I am glad to hear you enjoyed the videos! If you would like to discuss a personalized coaching program, please visit my coachrobb.cm website. I look forward to speaking with you soon! -Coach Robb
Hi Robb, you are doing a great Job. I love the way you coach through the video. Lot of details, lot of understanding about the mistakes that a beginner would do. Excellent Job. I am following you and have improved a lot. You are my virtual Coach Robb. I wish you all the best. ---- Bharath, Chennai, India
Thanks for the job you have done. I do appreciate. Clear and u to the point. May I ask a question? One of the basic skills is ability to keep correct core/trunk position. I mean to keep it in the way one's buoyancy is increased and there is no need to force legs to work hard. Any suggestions regarding drills or the correct position. Of course it was aout freestyle. Many thanks Rob!
Thanks for putting up those great videos! I love the details you go into to teach the basics. I am always having a problem with breathing, but now I am hoping for the great results.
Strengthening your abdominals and lower back will definitely help your body position. Please review my channel with various strength exercises. Another tip to getting tall is to keep your abdominal muscles tight. Imagine you are pushing your belly button through your spine; this will keep your back straight and eliminate the "dropped lower back" syndrome. Please keep me posted if this works for you! -Coach Robb
hey i am a self taught swimmer, i am an ex-climber who wants to carry my abitiles into the trialth. my climbing trainging inquiporties the running and biking but i need more exp. in the water.. my ape index is unknown for i just learn about that. my bouncee in the water sucks. you explain everything acourdingly and would fit great for what i look in for a coach!! .....the reason why i say ex-climber is because of the reasoned change.. i moved and everyone is about bodybuliding but im to skinn
Tom, Thank you for watching and posting your kind words! Please let me know if you need anything regarding your fitness and swimming efforts. -Coach Robb
Balance in the water is a combination of strength & neuromuscular memory. To help with the muscle memory, swim with a pull buoy only to help "teach" your body what proper balance feels like. For strength training - specific to swimming, please email me and I will send you a strength & flexibility program. Thanks for watching - Coach Robb
Thank you for watching! If there is anything in particular that is frustrating you, please let me know and we will break it down for you. Remember, work smart, not hard! -Coach Robb
Nihon-when possible, use a pull buoy to "teach your body" how to balance correctly. Please let me know if you have any troubles with the pull buoy. -Coach Robb
thank you for all your videos and tips! I'm a runner who is determined to complete a tri, and your videos have helped me just get in the pool and practice! I have one question about the use of a pull buoy. I find that when I use one I barely move forward, to the point where even completing half a lap seems unreasonably difficult. I can no longer rely on my legs and I panic. Is it possible/ok to kick a little while using a pull buoy? Are there other ways of isolating the pull? Cheers!
im from mexico and i dont uderstaand very much inglish...you say to this movements...you can grow and be more tall? if that is treu that you can explain more details..and if im wrong..sorry but...i dont speak very well inglish
yeah thx my friend I rely need that know...actually I bin a elite swimmer from Faroe Islands but know I use to help me with my ptsd if you know what that means...Swimming is like the air I breaht, the only time I fell free of my sickness Post traumatic stress disorder..but this last year I stopped swimming because of my situation....And ofcource I got worse...I need my swimming so bad like the air that I breath to cope with life-...so thx you ones again for your video, can see you are an amazing swimmer(beautiful svimmer) Just seem to be hard to start again so if you have any good advice please be free to tell me... :) senaida
Senaida - thank you for being honest about your experience and struggles. To get yourself back in the water, simply swim one length of the pool at a time, re-group and swim one length at a time. As you mentioned, it is better for you to swim a little than not at all, but please don't feel that you need to swim constantly or for a long time. Swimming brings your mind and body a peace of mind that is a life savor for you. Let's get you back in the water. Please keep me posted! -Coach Robb
Robb Beams thx for your understanding. U are so sweet. .Yes u right. ..I am going to swim every moning again. ..Robb the funny thing is that when I ones dive into the water I finally feel safe and home.cause honestly living with severe ptsd as I do is a living hell and no drugs the doctor try to give me take a hold on my nightmares or flashbacks. But now I am confedend in that swimming and other sport together with great help to self help can give me my life back. So I start swimming tomorrow and I will tell you how it went. I cry as I read your suporting words Thx my friend for suporting me Kindly regards Senaida
Nikhil-if you can film yourself and post it on UA-cam, I can review what changes are going on with your body balance. For starters, tighten up your stomach muscles to help improve your balance and stability. Please keep me posted. -Coach Robb
Hi Rob. I got a problem when I try to swim with pull buoy with one hand (catch up). I'm starting from the beginning. Now when I try to swim with one hand I have a hard time to swim straight. After few strokes I end up hitting lane line. Do you have any advice how to do catch up and still maintain straight trajectory. Looks easy when you do it but I find it to be quite challenging. Another challenge I have is trying to "lock" my other hand up straight. Just naturally as soon as working hand reaches water the other one goes down lol. But I guess that comes with practice...
Ivan-thank you for watching and your questions. You are swimming into the lane line because the arm out in front is crossing your center line (your spine). Make sure that your hand is in line with your side and you will swim straight (that forward arm is your rudder!). Pulling through too early is a muscle memory issue and it will get better with more practice. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything clarified. -Coach Robb
Robb Beams I tried this drill today and found it to be quite challenging lol. First off you were absolutely right as soon as I stretched my hand straight I had no issue with swimming into the lane. Now what I found to be challenging is that ever time when I rotate my body to take a breath my stretch hand sinks and also I experience muscle fatigue in my lower back just above butt. I don't know if it is normal or not but I kind of have that problem anyway. I guess long sitting in the office took its toll on my lower back.
SOMEBODY'S GOT TO TELL ME THE NAME OF THE SONG PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR IT FOR LIKE YEARS SOMEONE PLEASE OH GOD I'M LOSING MY FREAKING MIND
I aways end up sinking inside water after my second breath while swimming, and it takes force to lift my head from water for breathing, I'm on 8th day of swimming. How to sort that out?
+La Nella It'll just take some time to get that right...took me 15 days...just try to be better every day....it'll feel a bit annoying but only more practice will help you out
+Navjot Singh Cheema - Thank you for your honest message! I would suggest using a pull buoy to improve your body position and eliminate the sinking sensation. Please give this is a shot and let me know how it goes for you! -Coach Robb
Anan-thank you for your message! I would start with dry land stretch cords, then single arm drills in the water. Regarding her kick, please check her ankle flexibility. Can she point her toes downward completely? If not, she will struggle with propulsion. Please keep me posted. -Coach Robb

My back feels like it's too weak to keep me straight. Would you recommend some exersices or just continue to work on 'being tall'?
Would this work for 22 year old

Your welcome! Keep me posted on your progress.

Great information. Shame about the distracting background music
Thanks for watching! It was shot in the days of a Flip Camera - what you captured is what you get. Not much I can do about that.

Hi coach, will swimming on one side help me grow taller better than swimming on two sides?
Absolutely-it is all about muscle memory. Add fins to help keep you moving and "feel" for the water. Please keep me posted.
