  • In this impressive makeover, designer Sam Sacks shows how she gave this disjointed ’90s family home a much-needed facelift. By reconfiguring the layout, adding modern accents and sticking to an earthy palette, this space went from drab to daring. Get inspired by the kitchen’s glass uppers with white oak trim, the vintage Egyptian doors in the entryway and the playful wallpaper throughout the space. Plus, discover Sam’s tips for creating a main floor that is both hardworking and stylish.

Yes this is what I love to see. Yes there’s a white kitchen, but the other finishes make this feel like a home where people live and not a carbon copy of every other home. Also vinyl wallpaper- mind = blown!

This is SO much better than before - and although there is white in the kitchen there is that great wallpaper, and the Mauritanian rugs are really inspired. One minor comment - that front entry hall needs something like a rug, as it appears too austere. Maybe a rug doesn’t work too well in Toronto winters. Other than that, it is a great space!!

I love everything about this space! I would never have thought of any of this which is why I am so amazed by interior decor. How do they come up with their ideas and find the right resources? That leather and reed rug? Are you kidding me?! It's just a work of art that you can wipe clean. Speaking of which. . . what is going on in this home? Why does everything need to be wiped clean? I know there are kids in the home, but how about you just teach your kids how to be cleaner? Vinyl wallpaper sounds like something used in an insane asylum. It just makes it seem like with so many easily wipeable surfaces these kids are peeing and smearing on the walls and floors. OH! Designer Sam Sacks blond highlights are something most would covet! Do you not see that blond framing her face just so with that one chunk of a highlight on the left side of her face? Gorge!

White kitchens are getting so tired. It's all the rage in the 2010s just like dark wood and granite were all the rage in 2000s (which is the 'before' picture). You just went from one overused theme to another overused theme that will become outdated in a few years.

1:22 "modernity?" Girl! Why are you making up words? I have heard of maternity, but never "modernity".
1:40 "I didn't want a traditional subway tile." THIS ISN'T YOUR HOUSE! Designers need to stop using such possessive words when describing completed beautiful homes.
The subway tiles have uneven edges. How much more did those uneven edges cost? I wonder if interior designers realize no one is going to notice these little nuanced details unless told. Create interest that gets noticed.
2:10 That chandelier looks like a collection of extra long tampons.

You blew your credibility by saying no one will notice the nuanced detail of the subway tile. Wrong! Interior design is an ART form. The details DO matter to the designer and the home owner just as a subtle detail on clothing is part of the art. You clearly do not possess an artistic sensibility. Or enough of a vocabulary if you don’t know the word “modernity.” Get with it, Candis.
