HI Joe, I noticed that date of this video is Sept 4, 2011, and I am wondering when you actually made the video? What is the general timeline from the time you make the video to the time you post it. I am just trying to gage how recent your videos were actually made, so that I can determine when certain plants like the golden rod are in bloom. I live North of the border and I do believe these plants grow in my area. Thanks Joe!
I did not know about goldenrod being edible! It is very abundant here. Whats the prime picking season for tea making? Great video as usual Joe Take care and God Bless Pete
Hi Joe Sory for million questions! Just one more. I didn't get what you said about banicks or whatever that word is. What do you think you will use this flour for if you dont use if to mix with regular flour? Can you eat it in cereal, stew, tea?
There are around 100 species of Goldenrod mentioned on BONAP. And aparently the Cherokee used the species 'Solidago odora' as an abortifacient ( for abortions), and that species goes from Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri east, in the south and up and down the east coast according to the BONAP county maps for the species of the genus Solidago.
@JoeandZachSurvival He is a great guy, and really knows his bushcraft. I enjoy watching all 3 of you guys videos! If you know any other bushcraft experts, I would love the referral. I want to get so much knowledge as I may decide to say the hell with city life like the wilderness family did. I am originally from the country and want to return to my roots some day. Also if SHTF I want to be able to run to the hills and survive. Thanks again!
I was out on my bike riding in the rain 2 days ago and I was checking out some Golden Rod. I was wondering if was edible and what the medicinal properties were. I didn't dare touch it because I was unsure about it. But now I will. The tips on identification were awesome, especially the part about the translucent dots. Thanks. Love and Blessings...
@JoeandZachSurvival Thanks that is great to know. I notice we have some of the same wild edible here in eastern Ontario as you do in Minnesota. I am wondering which book is the best for wild edibles in my area so I can expand on my knowledge base on wild edibles. Its fascinating stuff to learn. There is another bushcraft guy on here called Phreshayr. You should check out his videos too. He is in Alaska!
@JoeandZachSurvival Sorry how rude of me to not introduce my self.My name is Brent, and I am the head patriarch of the charron household. hehe! I want to try and live out in the woods for undetermined time period next late spring or summer.Maybe I will try to live for 40 days & 40 nights in the forest in emulation of the israelites. Hehe! since I recently turned 40 what better way to celebrate this milestone, IF I could be allowed to use that anology. Thanks again for the videos. They are great
I live in Kentucky and during spring goldenrods are everywhere and my mom loves to go out and pick them dry them out and make tea it tastes extremely good especially with lemon and a bit of sugar
Patti White goldenrod gets blamed, but Ragweed is usually the culprit... They say goldenrod can't cause allergies... Tea from goldenrod will stop your sneezing fast... I personally experienced this many times, namaste
awesome video thank you !!

Solidago is great bee forage, it is usually the last flowering plant in fall and goldenrod honey is usually left for bees for winter.
It was the basic idea behind latex ( the sap)

In a survival situation, you can eat the yellow flower but can you also eat the leaves on it? is it safe?

Sarah, I agree.
Hello Thanks for the great video. I was just wondering. Are there any other plants that look like golden rod that should be avoided? Thank you!
How did it turn out? Did you try it in bannock?
I DONT KNOW BUT IT LOOKS LIKE BY USEING A ROLLING PIN YOU COULD GRIND THOSE FINER SEED TO A FLOWER BETTER .
I HATE goldenrod. Here in S TX in spring time when the last cold fronts blow in this stuff gets in the air and tear up my sinuses. makes me so ill.
