I agree with 2.8, I absolutely adored the story and domains, but exploring the islands felt like a chore. I think it was mostly due to all the environment changing mechanics, they're slow and you don't really know what you're doing until after you're done
Yeah I loved the island just being itself with some leftover assets from 1.6 so we can visit places we messed around in before and be nostalgic. Changing the island made it feel a little frustrating to explore
The puzzles and exploration definitely felt like a chore (like following the fucking water in Xinyan). But what make 2.8 an A tier for me, is the story, and domain design. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL, and the story is even better.
2.8 felt like they tried too much for something temporary and wanted us to feel it, but some things ended up being a chore, especially those rewards hidden behind complex mechanics, while being temporary
Yeah, first time I wasn't able to (get myself to) finish all the available content. It was like they tried to make a "three realms gateway" (dark Enkanomiya) event again, but ended up feeling more chore-like unfortunately. I appreciate the effort put in and I enjoyed the background info we got on all the characters, but it was just way too much.
I mostly agree with the Tierlist. From what I've experienced and explored so far I gotta say, 3.0 would have deserved its own tier. Extremely fun to explore, really good new QoL changes, a new element, probably the best music we have in the game, amazing story and the list goes on
I just didn't include 3.0 because it's ongoing but I honestly don't need to finish it to call it the best and my favorite patch. Sumeru is 11/10 and Dendro changed the meta in a very meaningful way. QOL/Strongbox was amazing too.
@@zenith_art This was only the first 2 chapters in the sumeru archon quest with some more to come. They feel less "hype" than the inazuma one, but the worldbuilding and storytelling in them was a lot better than Inazuma
I'm hoping that in future updates, Hoyo will include a quality of life feature on the mini-map so that whenever we go underground, the surface will be slightly transparent and display the underground features, making our underground adventures more convenient.
surprisingly, teyvat interactive map of Sumeru has that feature.. so the devs actually thought about that but refuses to put it in the game that feature helped me find some dendroculus using teyvat interactive map from Hoyolab.. I think it's named as "Cave Entrance" and can be triggered if the object on the map is labeled as "underground", or you can just click it manually on the features tab to show all cave entrances not only it does show the cave entrances but also marks a shadow line to show the path unseen from above
Yeah I agree on the 2.8 thing. I liked Kazuha's and Mona's stories were nice and I liked quite a few of the puzzles in Mona's domain and her island, but most things just felt tedious. I ended up not fully exploring the GAA which is a first for me since starting at launch. The diluc event was cool tho. I was also hyped about theater mechanicus before 1.3 came as I also like tower defense games. I was not hyped about it the second time it came.
I didn't mention that but same, I did most of the important stuff from 2.8 GAA but by the end I just couldn't bring myself to comb through it which is the first event I didn't complete 100%. Diluc event was great as well, loved the difficulty spike in the Dire Straits mode but the rewards could have been a lot better than some enhancement ore.
The difficulty spike, though, is why the rewards are what they are. Hoyoverse knows casuals are much of their market, and they want them to be able to get the desired rewards. Heck, in most events, the reward for that level of difficulty would have been nothing but you being able to say you did it. Theater Mechanicus just keeps getting worse with every iteration. The latest version was particularly bad. Hopefully, they return to something much closer to the first version the next time around.
Quite ironic that 2.8 is my absolute favourite patch. it was honestly amazing and, actually, it felt more rich with content than 3.0 for me. (3.0 is second place for me, too..) GAA just felt so complete, and it was an amazing experience. Granted I didn't do exploration to 100%, but I feel like if I did that I would never return to the game.
honestly frr, like i understand the puzzles were annoying for some people but I found them really exciting and the the story and the events were so good
I started midway through 2.0, My favourite patch by far is 2.3. The shadows amidst snowstorms event was extremely good and the smaller events were pretty good (especially the one with the Samurai Dog) Itto’s story quest is still my favourite character quest and Gorou’s hangout is pretty good.
As someone who started in 2.3 as a complete noob, 2.3 was awful, having to do a lot of dragonspine because I didn't know it was just an 'event', the events being too difficult for me being underlevelled and just the general first impression of albedo made me hate him. And to this day I have a cinnabar spindle refinement material that I don't have a weapon to use on.
@@endeavour6009 It's not the 2.3 event's fault that you were new? lol. It's pretty much a bad idea to do the event of ANY patch that you first started in because they're aimed for endgame players. Imagine a brand spanking new player trying to do the enkanomiya event or the xiao chasm interlude then saying that they both suck because it was too difficult for them.
Wow... I liked 2.8s golden island archepelago way more then the first one, in 1.6 all tge islands were so same-y while in 2.8 they were all unique making them way more fun to explore imo
2.8 was lovely looking, Great story, But after returning so much for doing certain events, I was already thinking in my head "I'm gonna have a burnout from this". Too many switching of island layouts, Inconvenient locations of certain stuff, sure it was an adventure but then The amount of stuff felt like they dumped too many ideas into one limited event and served it. I was exhausted from playing it and was already wishing for it to end cuz I didn't want to explore for other chests that might come up. It had great sights tho and made memories with friends, but we all agreed it was too much.
Started in the Just Ayaka banner and my favorite patch is 3.0 But, on this tier list, my favorite would have to be 2.7. First of all, I got the luckiest on Yelan's banner. Doing the ten pull, I was so happy when I won Yelan's 50/50 for my first five star. Then, in the same ten pull, I got Mona. Double five star and guaranteed Kazuha. I would've loved 2.8. Fischl outfit. Kazuha banner. The story. But I despised ABSOLUTELY DESPISED exploring the GAA.
3.0 is my favorite as well! Sumeru is just perfect, being new certainly helps but even starting Inazuma I had some complaints, Sumeru however....I wouldn't change a thing. It's massive, beautiful, feels full, great music/characters/enemies. It exceeded all my expectations. Same with Dendro as well.
I may absolutely be biased but i liked how the 2,8 puzzles in this were actually difficult, while yes some parts may be tedious the payoff in story for me makes it all the more worthwhile -and also got kazuha and then yoimiya mere days after eachother-
I was scared you’d put the Unlimited Ayaka Banner version into the F tier. Surprised you didn’t even mention it, paired up with the food teapot event where you could not edit your teapot. My least favorite patch is 1.4, didn’t like the Mario party dungeon where you had to do challenges in a specific minigame to get rewards, but they all were randomized.
So I didn't mention it because it was due to a global issue and a particularly serious issue in China at the time. I wouldn't hold it against them in any way and I'm still really pleased with how the community handled it, everybody was so understanding and it was nice to see! Teapot maintenance however, if the compensation hadn't been SO generous I would have been more annoyed. But I would have been okay if it was still in maintenance to this day with those rewards lol
My favorite patch is the first golden archipelago, it was actually relaxing, like it was meant to be a vacation where we just played games and get primos for it, there wasn’t an insane amount of puzzles, not much fighting it was just a cute event, with jean and Barbra’s outfits and klee. In my opinion the second one could not compare, it wasn’t the vacation kind of event like they said, there were so many puzzles you couldn’t complete without tutorials and the puzzles got so boring and it just made my head hurt. The stories were fun and the characters were fun, but that’s like the only good thing I have to say about the second archipelago event😕
I'll never not be surprised at how poorly recieved 2.8 has been. I did play the original one, couldn't do much because I was new but I managed to explore enough to collect the conches and get the skin for Barbara. Sure some of the puzzles were annoying, but I really enjoyed going through this second iteration of Golden Apple Archipielago. It was tedious doing it in an alt account, and I couldn't finish that one, but as someone who cares a lot about the story that aspect did not disappoint at all. I found the Enkanomiya event way more annoying since I just explored that, whereas GAA I have been actively waiting for it to rerun since I didn't get the full experience of the first round. Idk I was just happy to explore and see the islands again
tbh it was only poorly recieved because the puzzles were annoying asf, i struggled so much especially on fischl's, and to me it felt more like a nostalgia trip for 1.6 players than something that stood on its own
2.7 is my personal favourite, because firstly, it was my first time getting two five stars in one banner (Keqing and Yelan both came home), I loved the event, and in the story it really felt like there were actual stakes. Plus the drumalong event was fantastic (I finally got to hear some more appreciation for yoimiya theme). I will say, it kinda felt like the last week or so kinda dragged for a bit, but I guess thats because we were all looking forward to 2.8. I mostly just cared about the yoimiya rerun.
My favorite by far is 2.0, the hype of Inazuma was unreal and the general feel of that patch is just exciting and full of anticipation which I think was thoroughly worth it. Plus it had the best trailer by far.
What saved the experience of 2.8 for me was just purely Fischl's Island and domain. The story was awesome, the combat music is probably the best one we had so far. Xinyan and Kazuha's island were kinda okay, but Mona was just painful. The puzzles in her island were absolutely arbitrary or a chore and I hated most of them. Although the end there where you walk up the stars after all that pain and suffering was still pretty dang cool.
@@user-re8tc1dg3b There's no need to force yourself to like her really. It's just that I had been Chuunibyou and cringey in the past as well, so I just find Fischl funny and endearing.
started with launch. as you said back then the game was crazy; artifacts and boss drops literally dropped to the ground, events that cost resin, resin cap at 120, multiple glitches involving venti. Crazy times
I wish 2.8 had something like enkomomiya in which after you finished the story or something, they’d show you where all the chests were. I didn’t like having to look at video guides to try and get all the rewards.
the event in 1.0 (that never had a rerun) still is the best one i've ever played in Genshin. it was SO fun and easy to understand, just pure playful moments with your friends/random coop players. I wish we could have a rerun cause i really miss it.
the hype i felt for 2.1 was unparalleled. I was literally watching the trailer twice a day because of how hyper I was for raiden and sara. I miss those times 😭😭
Big fan of your vids especially your ranking vids! Glad you made a vid about this cuz honestly I forgot most of what happened (mostly event mini games) the past 2 years of this game haha
okay but why does 10:35 fun fact sounds like a clue in a danganronpa game or like an observation the protagonist/helper would make???? danganronpa fans back me up
2.8 was my first time to explore Golden Apple Archipelago, I really loved it. I loved exploring it and I loved playing the domains but I can see where you're coming from, so while I disagree with this I respect it haha
I found myself agreeing with most of this list. I loved 2.0 so much, and while Inazuma had some disappointments as a whole, getting that first crack at it was amazing. 2.8 was also probably my least favorite patch; I loved the character backstories, but hated everything else. I can cut Hoyo some slack, since much of 2.8 was likely developed when Shanghai was in lockdown.
I would say a lot of this I agree with, though of course me being a different person with different opinions than you I of course disagree on some points, especially 2.8, but I can say that you are absolutely correct with how grindy and tedious those islands were. However in my opinion (which may be put through a nostalgia lense because og GAA) the islands being entirely different with different gameplay elements between each I really really appreciated, and me as a person would've hated if they just respawned all the chests on it and say "hey, you know how you spent like 2 weeks exploring this a year ago? have fun doing it all again except with no story element this time :)" It felt a lot more like a new experience the way they did it, I just wish it wasn't as grindy this time.
I pretty much agree with all your list, however, 2.8 was my absolute favorite patch (outside of 3.0, of course), the domains and puzzles were so fun, specially mona's island, the dialogue was so engaging, I felt like I was in a play with the crows, I loved the story, it's weird how opinions can be so different from person to person.
Personally speaking 1.6 felt even better than 2.8 maybe due to the region being fresh. But the story was also just GREAT. Klee's adventures and the surprises was soo amazing. Like after the first part of the story, you will wait 2 days to explore. And we will finish the entire archipelago within a day coz there was nothing. And then when the phase 2 was started the entire archipelago just rises from the ocean bed to be this massive region with never-ending content
In the unreconisiled stars event, using resin was worth it as you got more resources as compared to leylines. I wish I still had the numbers, as that may not still be true depending on world level.
I feel like in 2.8 hoyo just decided that they would make the most irritatingly difficult puzzles and make 4 versions of them. I feel like the channels that make genshin quest guides just skyrocketed cuz of this patch. I mean, it was definitely fun but its so annoying. Also, the raven theatre quest made me install a macro for left click
Absolutely agree with 2.8, I HATE HATE Kazuha's domain very much. I need to close my eyes whenever I need to rotate a room, it makes me dizzy and nauseous. Why did they put mechanics like this? I almost gave up cuz it's very tormenting and repetitive. What a stressful event. 😮💨
The Monster Hunter Rise song you used for the Chasm was "Brave Hunters", the default music for the Gathering Hub. Sounds like a version without the lyrics, but can't quite tell.
My favorite patch would probably be 2.7 and 1.4. 1.4 is my favorite with random people and my sister playing all theses events but 2.7 is my favorite for me alone, the fighting event is my all time favorite fighting event and the drumalong was my favorite music event but the reward was trash compared to the other music instruments. And I really hated 2.6 I don't know why Chasm was my favorite Liyue location but the events were one of my all time worst there have been even worse events but they usually had only 1 or none in each patch but 2.6 had the most for me. Theater mechanics was so boring in this patch, I miss 1.3's version. So yeah besides those 3 versions and 2.8 I agree with this list somewhat. 1.6 was definitely the best golden apple archipelago.
Well since we are not ranking Sumeru here, I think my favourite update is 1.6. This was the update where I was the luckiest with my pulls (pulled an early guaranteed Klee and then won 50/50 Kazuha with 35 pity). GAA was just such a fun place to explore! Plus we got to battle Maguu Kenki for the first time. I had such a blast playing this which is ironic because Inazuma shattered my hope to pieces lol. Also, weird that you didn't mention that we got the Shogun weekly boss in 2.5. I think this would have been enough to out it in like C.
I dont know why everyone hated 2.8, imo it was one of the better patches. Not only in terms of character stories, but also exploration of revamped islands, and very cool puzzles. Only bad thing about it were the boring raven statue theaters.
There'll always be people who love/hate different patches, I feel the same about people hating Inazuma while I loved it. Just different strokes for different folks is all. Genshin has a wide array of people playing for different reasons and different events appeal to different groups. I personally really hated the puzzles in the domains, particularly Xinyan's/Kazuha's weren't thought provoking to me, just tedious. Fischl's started out appealing then devolved into sillyness and I actually enjoyed Mona's quite a bit.
i think i started somewhere in 2.3 and I'm still playing. i think my favourite one i have played though it would be 2.6 because i liked most of the mini games there.
I truly believe 2.1 and 2.2 RUINED people's memories of 2.0. When Inazuma first dropped I remember literally everyone being sO excited and positive about genshin. 1.4-5 felt like such a dry spell that Inazuma felt like a huge breath of fresh air added into the game, not to mention being aesthetically gorgeous. I remember clearly seeing Inazuma wipe the floor with "favorite region" polls the same way Sumeru is doing now. Not to mention the story in 2.0 was actually really strong and very good setup, it was really 2.1 that fumbled the ball. Perhaps it's the newer players with the less than perfect opinion of Inazuma, but 2.0 was easily one of the best times to play Genshin. Totally agree with your top 3
I do think Inazuma had some big drawbacks. A lot of the "come back (real life's) tomorrow" type crap to progress through things. Also, the constant lightning strike area was annoying... and time gated to get rid of. Though at least we could get rid of it, unlike Dragonspine.
i started playing February of last year, however i didn’t really get into the game until a week before 1.6. As a player, i value story and character interactions over gameplay, however i still want the gameplay to be fun. i do think our lists would be different but i respect your opinion 😅
I'm surpised people actually don't like 2.8. I admittedly didn't like the island changing, at least for Kazuha and Xinyan's. I think if they only did that with Mona's it would've been good. But TBH, I don't think I could put any version in F tier. I'm a "theme first" kind of player, so I loved this event. For me, it was just fun being in the set pieces, even if I wasn't doing anything.
I started in 1.1 but i started to take the game serious in the end of 1.3 my favourite was 2.0 because i wanted Ayaka so much and i absolutely adore Japanese style things. I even remember i woke up early just to play it the whole day. I sometimes come back to Inazuma just to walk around in the place and almost feel like crying because of being full of nostalgia.. It's really been over a year now ever since we got Inazuma.
Same 2.0 was so insane i've never been so hyped for a region and a character, and i got like 3 ayakas in 30 pulls it was absolutely crazy to explore and up her i wanted her so bad
The return of the golden archepelago was great but i also really hate the way you have to redo domains just to get all the rewards especially the ones with the hardest puzzles like mona and xinyan this was the event i never completed that was by choice
I joined towards the beginning of the 1.6 patch. I remember not knowing the golden apple archipelago was a temporary area and scrambling in the last 5 days to gather the plants for kazuha, who was my first 5 star
As a newer player kinda bummer that 2.8 is lower on tier list but I can see why. Character interactions and their domains were fun, but it felt goofy to leave checking the reason of those domains existence for the last day. I tried exploring before main mission but there was barely anything to find, but after main story exploration felt overdesigned (had to look up walkthroughs more than I wish I had). 100% felt like a chore and I gave up on it. I wish I could experience some of those earlier events.
Keep up the good work, Ratheil! I always look forward to your new tier list videos. I have some suggestions for a future tier list videos! 1) Ranking every (or just 5 star) characters based on their visual design - I know in your 'Ranking every Genshin Character' video you kinda already touched on that aspect, but i feel like visual design should honestly have its own ranking. I mean, i could really dislike a characters personality or kit, but their outfit could be amazing. 2) Ranking every character theme song/character trailer - this one might sound kinda weird, but i feel like every characters theme song is just really special. Even if the song itself isnt that great (which is a rare thing, btw. Hoyoverses music team is top tier), i still think the visuals and overall effort is still amazing Anyway, these are just suggestions :) Happy 3.0 ^^
Labyrinth Warriors is EASILY the best event in the game for me. But that's mainly because Xinyan finally got some deserved screentime, but also because of the fun mechanic with how we walked through a maze to get to the final boss - therefore I NEED something like a Labyrinth Warriors rerun event. I also need the rhytm events to stay in the game as a mechanic with every demo song that would be so fun.
In 1.2 you could use Albedos elemental skill to LAUNCH yourself into the sky. It was later patched out but it was extremely fun and the best exploration skill.
While I prefer looking at the story 1st, and the combat/mini events 2nd, your opinions make sense. Not on a story sense, in my opinion at least, as I think 2.8 had one of the best event stories in Genshin, but the combat. Although I will admit, the mini events in 2.8 were very much a drag. Very fair, and good video as always.
2.3 has the best story event how come its on c tier instead of s?? Its like somebody trying to cope albedo theme versions with zongli themed version. Even though albedo's are clearly magnitudly better.
i started at the tail end of 2.3, and as a new player, i’ve got to say that 2.4 could not be a more perfect first event. lantern rite was absolutely beautiful, there was so much character, so much beautiful gameplay, so many gorgeous cutscenes, and i just loved it. my favorite patch to this day, followed closely by 2.7
I started playing at the beginning of 1.5, and I can say that my definite favorite patches were 1.6 and 2.4. The OG GAA still brings a lot of nostalgia when I think about it, since it was the first major event I ever played through. While 2.8 absolutely blew me away with the visual designs and stories, I think it was the first patch where I didn't collect all the major event rewards just bc it was that tedious. In other words, it didn't carry the same relaxing feeling as the 1st GAA. 2.4 is probably my second favorite bc Lunar New Year is of personal significance to me, and they illustrated it beautifully (one of the very few events where I almost cried). Not only that, but the new archon quest hit, Windtrace came back, AND Enkanomiya came out. 2.0 is an honorable mention My least favorite is probably 2.5 just bc I'd already explored >90% of Enkanomiya by the time it was released, so it was annoying to go and explore it all over again. Also, I had high hopes since it was Inazuma's first major event since 2.2, but it felt like a filler update more than any other patch (besides maybe 2.3). Overall there was just not much memorable about it
I’m very much a story over everything else type of person. I was absolutely raving about 2.3 for at least a month straight. Even now, if someone so much as mentions Shadows Amidst Snowstorm I’ll launch into a spiel about how much I love it. When I think of my fondest Genshin memories, it’s definitely that patch and watching everyone react to the storyline
Even if I wouldn't rank 2.8 as low it just felt overwhelming, I liked the story and fischl's island but I didn't bothered with the island changing mechanics since I didn't thought it was wirth it and I didn't had that much free time.
To someone who plays since 1.4 my favorite patch was 2.3 just because we returned to Mondstadt. Also, one of the events where the lore is significant, but mihoyo decided to make it time limited :(
I completely agree with 2.8, honestly I was expecting something like 1.6 and I would have prefered that. As a person that loves the lore, learning abour the characters was awesome. But I just wanted to get the archipelago back with the same island and a new story. I felt completely lost and I ended up not really going there besides when I got the rewards and that's all while in 1.6 I was always spending time there, just going there to disconnect and be happy when reconnecting there because it looked awesome
lol I started in 1.5 but like with 1 week to go so basically 1.6 I'm so glad I got to experience the og GAA then immediately got to experience Inazuma as I finally started to understand the game
Suprised you didn’t cover the addition of Narukami no mikoto when you were covering 2.5. Also 2.4 giving us enkanomiya will always be S tier in my heart
2nd GAA was worse, but I dont think it deserves an F, but sure, if somebody doesnt care about stories of characers, its understandable and the puzzles were sometimes awful
I like Mona, Fish and Kazuha but as I said the gameplay was so unenjoyable to me that I couldn't even sit and enjoy the other aspects. I didn't like the gimmicks in 3/4 of the domains, the changing island mechanics for 2 of them. 1st GAA also had story and character interactions but much of the time was spent just exploring some nice chill islands and ultimately I really just wanted that kind of experience again.
I have to heavily disagree about Theatre Mechanicus. The 3rd one has to be, by far, the very worst itteration of it. It removed the ability to CO-OP IN IT. One of the VERY FEW CO-OP events in this game, had that feature taken away. And I hate how they limited you in it,. only allowing you to place a few of every type of mechanici instead of just an overall limit. It felt like I couldn't get creative with it at all. Plus the fact that thety pre-placed half the mechanici FOR YOU just made it feel so much more limited.
Yeah, it was bad. The pre-placed stuff just made it feel like they were forcing you into a path, and then all that RNG after that. I disliked it enough that I just followed guides to complete it.
2.8 is either the best version for some people or the worst version for other, there is no between Lol. Personally 2.8 is an easy s tier because of the scenery and fantasy land is my favorite kind of land I had a blast and lot of fun taking many photo in 2.8 GA
I’m a completionist. I have 100% in every region, nearly all the achievement name cards, all the furniture sets done, and every single character I own at friendship level 10 (except Faruzan). I find joy in completing new objectives, and haven’t experienced burnout once Despite this, I could not bring myself to explore the 2.8 GAA. It was the first time I thought I had burnt out, but in reality, the entire island’s design was so bothersome. Having to wave rider places, talk to boring raven statues, play through motion-sickness inducing domains. I wasn’t even able to feel a sense of nostalgia from the first event, because the island had changed so much it felt different. The characters they chose for the event hardly knew each other, and so I didn’t care for their interactions (unlike the first GAA which entered only around mondstadt) I played enough to get the primos, which was a first for me.
2.1 is my favorite simply because of personal reasons - The release of Kujou Sara, my main genshin impact waifu until now (i pulled her until C5, then got her C6 at 2.5) - I also got C1 Raiden and C0 Kokomi with moongoow in that one patch
I only ever experienced the second Golden Apple event and while i rly wanted the rewards, i couldnt bring myself to get past the introduction of the talking boat and the reveal that the Fatui were involved in the story, beyond that point, i didnt want to put time into the event and just stuck to other parts of the game.
I started playing Genshin on the PS4 in 1.0 but stopped playing after Klee’s banner (because it kept lagging and freezing my PS4) and then came back on the last day of 1.2. I then missed windtrace because I got burnt out, came back in 1.6 but missed Barbara’s skin because I got burnt out trying to get the conch shells without a guide (I was very stupid to nor use a guide), and came back for 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 but never bothered to do the Labyrinth Warriors event but did the rhythm event. I was there for 2.3 and 2.4 but I missed 2.5 and 2.6 (Because my iPad had no storage) and came back to get Yelan in 2.7 but didn’t play again until 2.8.
In my opinion, the first windbloom was wonderful, but that's just my opinion and supported by the fact that then I started playing so well so then I started to have fun
I would agree with the Chasm patch if the godforsaken Lumenstone automatically lit up the environment without having to be equipped. It's not like there are enemies that require you to equip it aside from the boss there, anyway.
I personally liked 2.8... Didn't do all of it, I never explored it 100%. But I did like the exploration. Fischl's was annoying though cus you had to listen to the stories fully every single time with no option to skip it. But even then, they looked good, and were mostly good in my opinion
I agree with the 2.8 rating, mainly because of those god damn fischl quests in her island world, they were so monotonous and dreary and some of the puzzles didn't make any sense. I really did hate that event and was thinking about just not doing it and forgetting about the whole thing
The domains in 2.8 I never set foot into again and just lost the rewards, I'd say that probably made it a more fun patch for me altho the highlight is def heizou's hangout lol
i really really wanted to love GAA 2. But I couldn't. It missed the summery refreshing note of the first one and just felt like a tedious job that I had to do for primos. it was beautiful but not fun. I procastinated till the last day and ended up not finishing it.
Started myself in 2.7 at the end, love the game so far but i am just gutted that there is no way to relive the story from older patches or get things like the Spindel or Festering Desire. A lot of story is just unclear to me becuase i missed the early events, i do hope they adjust this in the future.
I really live 2.8 GAA the only complaythat I have is a lot of the mechanic on some island are time consuming and it on event, wich is you need to finish it on certain amount of time before the event disappear. That makes me kinda rush the event on the last week because I don't have that much of time to play during the event, and kinda hope its an permanent event so I can enjoy it more.
I started with genshin at the end of 1.3 during the Keqing banner and I remember being sad abt not being able to do the lantern rite since I didn't have a high enough ar and by the time I was a high enough ar there was only 3 days left of the event. I was rlly looking forward to the next lantern rite and the 2nd lantern rite made me rlly disappointed. I absolutely hated the story and they got rid of the Xiao lanterns which I was looking forward to getting more of. I liked the rest of 2.4 but that disappointment made it the worst update for me.
Steak is overrated.
"You just haven't had GOOD steak like mine" - Every person who doesn't agree with this statement
:(
Steak is good wdym?
Never had steak before therefore steak is flop
SO TRUE
Finally someone has the balls to say it.
I agree with 2.8, I absolutely adored the story and domains, but exploring the islands felt like a chore. I think it was mostly due to all the environment changing mechanics, they're slow and you don't really know what you're doing until after you're done
Especially when you never knew if you 100% an island don’t think they added this to 1.6 either but man were the setpeices like the domains beautiful
Yeah I loved the island just being itself with some leftover assets from 1.6 so we can visit places we messed around in before and be nostalgic. Changing the island made it feel a little frustrating to explore
It's annoying how all the fun exploration was locked away behind long quests in a time limited event
Skipped most of it, the rewards weren't worth the pain at all
The puzzles and exploration definitely felt like a chore (like following the fucking water in Xinyan).
Sad no updates to the load limit to the teapot but yes I’ve been devouring all the new content from 3.0
@@zenith_art This was only the first 2 chapters in the sumeru archon quest with some more to come. They feel less "hype" than the inazuma one, but the worldbuilding and storytelling in them was a lot better than Inazuma
@@zenith_art Honestly, I would say that 3.0 archon quest is the best story in genshin and it's not even remotely close.
@@aaronmendoza2010 teapot mains been neglected man.
I'm hoping that in future updates, Hoyo will include a quality of life feature on the mini-map so that whenever we go underground, the surface will be slightly transparent and display the underground features, making our underground adventures more convenient.
I was just talking about this to my brother yesterday. That'd be pretty useful!
They could've made it like the chasm but nop
Dragonspine as well, that place really deserves this feature. Many places in Sumeru also could use this.
That should've been in the game from the start...
surprisingly, teyvat interactive map of Sumeru has that feature.. so the devs actually thought about that but refuses to put it in the game
that feature helped me find some dendroculus using teyvat interactive map from Hoyolab.. I think it's named as "Cave Entrance" and can be triggered if the object on the map is labeled as "underground", or you can just click it manually on the features tab to show all cave entrances
not only it does show the cave entrances but also marks a shadow line to show the path unseen from above
2.8 had top tier story and bottom tier playability
Granted I didn't do exploration to 100%, but I feel like if I did that I would never return to the game.
honestly frr, like i understand the puzzles were annoying for some people but I found them really exciting and the the story and the events were so good
I started midway through 2.0,
My favourite patch by far is 2.3.
The shadows amidst snowstorms event was extremely good and the smaller events were pretty good (especially the one with the Samurai Dog)
Itto’s story quest is still my favourite character quest and Gorou’s hangout is pretty good.
@@endeavour6009 main events are always tailored for veteran and endgame players
@@BadassHatdog ah well I didn't know that?? I was new to the game and did what the quests I got told to do done
@@endeavour6009 2.3 was one of the easiest and the best story event. Its more of a you problem cuz you are trying to play it as soon as you started.
Wow... I liked 2.8s golden island archepelago way more then the first one, in 1.6 all tge islands were so same-y while in 2.8 they were all unique making them way more fun to explore imo
it was really content for the whole patch, not like enkanomiya event which i finished in 3 days
Started in the Just Ayaka banner and my favorite patch is 3.0
But, on this tier list, my favorite would have to be 2.7.
@@Ratheil yeah, i guess ive worded it poorly, i mean im relieved it didnt affect your rating at all!
Great list. Although I can't say I agree with most of it....especially not the last one...but its nice to see other opinions about the updates :)
You actually liked this year's GAA? You mental sick or something? 💀
Idk I was just happy to explore and see the islands again
tbh it was only poorly recieved because the puzzles were annoying asf, i struggled so much especially on fischl's, and to me it felt more like a nostalgia trip for 1.6 players than something that stood on its own
idk but... increasing the cap from 120 to 160 resin WITH condensed resin makes 1.1 S tier...
Those were HUGE changes. Less relevant at the time but now I couldn't live without them.
I first started playing right before Eula’s release and the first Windblume, I have very fond memories of Genshin then and now ♡
My favorite by far is 2.0, the hype of Inazuma was unreal and the general feel of that patch is just exciting and full of anticipation which I think was thoroughly worth it. Plus it had the best trailer by far.
Exactly.
Please teach me your ways, how can you stand this nonstop rambling emo? I actually cant stand her after 2.8, i just cant with how much she talks

I wish we could have a rerun cause i really miss it.
i still listen to fischl's domain's battle theme from time to time. it's way too good for a limited time event smh
Ranking a narrative-driven game without considering the quality of the story? Sounds fair.
I did consider it on some of the versions, if I actually paid attention to the story lol
the hype i felt for 2.1 was unparalleled.

I pretty much agree with all your list, however, 2.8 was my absolute favorite patch (outside of 3.0, of course), the domains and puzzles were so fun, specially mona's island, the dialogue was so engaging, I felt like I was in a play with the crows, I loved the story, it's weird how opinions can be so different from person to person.
majority of players were easily burned out ngl (including me). now we have 3.8 summer event and by far the best summer event.
I was down with all the listings and then you put 2.8 in F and for me it was like high A to S so I am shook
I've been waiting for a video like this
2.8 exploration was a chore I left over half of the chests cause I got burned out..x
In the unreconisiled stars event, using resin was worth it as you got more resources as compared to leylines. I wish I still had the numbers, as that may not still be true depending on world level.
I started in 2.4 and so far 2.7 was my favorite until 3.0 came out. I hadn't so much fun with genshin in a while
I feel like in 2.8 hoyo just decided that they would make the most irritatingly difficult puzzles and make 4 versions of them.
1.4 is definitely my favorite patch, probably because i love mondstadt and the windblume festival but it was just so fun
Jumping from monster hunter music to terraria music was a whiplash I wasn’t ready for, I love it
Really great tierlist! So weird I agree with almost everything you said
i think i started somewhere in 2.3 and I'm still playing. i think my favourite one i have played though it would be 2.6 because i liked most of the mini games there.
I also really like dragonspine! The secret room in the mountain for my first purple claymore got me so excited!
I started in 1.1 but i started to take the game serious in the end of 1.3
my favourite was 2.0 because i wanted Ayaka so much and i absolutely adore Japanese style things.
Inazuma might be easier for newer players since you can actually explore Sumeru before even unlocking Inazuma.
I started playing a month after 2.0 and have been in love with the game ever since
Keep up the good work, Ratheil!
Hoyoverses music team is top tier), i still think the visuals and overall effort is still amazing
Anyway, these are just suggestions :) Happy 3.0 ^^
“Unless you play lumine, which means there was a dumpster in the room”
Damn man you didn’t have to go for the jugular on them
I started in 1.0 and I totally forgot that events back then needed resin to be played through
2.3 has the best story event how come its on c tier instead of s??
2.0 is an honorable mention
My least favorite is probably 2.5 just bc I'd already explored >90% of Enkanomiya by the time it was released, so it was annoying to go and explore it all over again. Also, I had high hopes since it was Inazuma's first major event since 2.2, but it felt like a filler update more than any other patch (besides maybe 2.3). Overall there was just not much memorable about it
10:37 that sfx sounds familiar thou...
I just started Genshin a few weeks ago and knowing that I missed all these events and story that might never come back makes be kinda wanna die.
I felt completely lost and I ended up not really going there besides when I got the rewards and that's all while in 1.6 I was always spending time there, just going there to disconnect and be happy when reconnecting there because it looked awesome
lol I started in 1.5 but like with 1 week to go so basically 1.6
I'm so glad I got to experience the og GAA then immediately got to experience Inazuma as I finally started to understand the game
Ratheil i love your videos!
Personally 2.8 is an easy s tier because of the scenery and fantasy land is my favorite kind of land
I had a blast and lot of fun taking many photo in 2.8 GA
I’m a completionist. I have 100% in every region, nearly all the achievement name cards, all the furniture sets done, and every single character I own at friendship level 10 (except Faruzan). I find joy in completing new objectives, and haven’t experienced burnout once
Despite this, I could not bring myself to explore the 2.8 GAA.
The characters they chose for the event hardly knew each other, and so I didn’t care for their interactions (unlike the first GAA which entered only around mondstadt)
I played enough to get the primos, which was a first for me.
2.1 is my favorite simply because of personal reasons
-
The release of Kujou Sara, my main genshin impact waifu until now (i pulled her until C5, then got her C6 at 2.5)
-
I also got C1 Raiden and C0 Kokomi with moongoow in that one patch
I only ever experienced the second Golden Apple event and while i rly wanted the rewards, i couldnt bring myself to get past the introduction of the talking boat and the reveal that the Fatui were involved in the story, beyond that point, i didnt want to put time into the event and just stuck to other parts of the game.
Your slap dust cloud effect on 2.7 was targeting 2.4 :/
I just learned that I joined in 2.3
I immediately got Itto and he was stuck at level 40 for a WHILE. It was a bittersweet experience.
In my opinion, the first windbloom was wonderful, but that's just my opinion and supported by the fact that then I started playing so well so then I started to have fun
can't believe that condensed resin was introduced in 1.2
I still think that that's new feature
I would agree with the Chasm patch if the godforsaken Lumenstone automatically lit up the environment without having to be equipped.
It's not like there are enemies that require you to equip it aside from the boss there, anyway.
10:39" unless you play as lumine, then there was a dumbster present in the room"
xDD
Somebody noticed :P
Almost the same tierlist as mine, just 2.7 S and 2.6 B
I'm kind of confused some patches are ranked with story but others are only mechanics/events/additions.
1.4 feels pretty good with the story addition
I really live 2.8 GAA the only complaythat I have is a lot of the mechanic on some island are time consuming and it on event, wich is you need to finish it on certain amount of time before the event disappear. That makes me kinda rush the event on the last week because I don't have that much of time to play during the event, and kinda hope its an permanent event so I can enjoy it more.
In the chasm there’s always something in sight, in the sumeru desert however..
