IN THIS VIDEO: I'm taking a VERY large but very average MDF dresser and turning into an absolute show stopper by cutting quarter sawn oak veneer on my bandsaw and refacing all the drawer faces. I also created a custom stain with Odie's Oil and pigments, and a custom mixed paint colour using Fusion Mineral Paint. The perfect blend of woodgrain and paint, and new hardware, this piece was just elevated to another dimension altogether! You won't even believe it.

The detail that no one seems to be noticing is how you added more pulls so each "drawer" has its own -- makes the illusion of many thin drawers that much more convincing. It really does look like an antique piece now -- the veneer looks gorgeous.

      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  9 днів тому +8

Thank you! I’ve had many people saying “too many pulls”, not realizing that if this were a REAL map cabinet, each drawer would have at LEAST one pull, and often two! So I very much appreciate the fact that you can see what I was going for here. :-)

You made a silk purse out of a sow's ear! Thanks for all your inspiration and the Woodworkers Guild. My husband died, and while I know how to use all the equipment in the shop, I know diddly squat about their maintenance needs. And little things like fixing the broken table saw height adjustment.💚💚💚

'Rog! Rabbits! There's rabbits!. Never mind the pea flakes, get through here now! Aw! You've missed them. What?! Rog! Rog! Now she's working on MDF! And she's spreading butter on it! What's going on?!' To say that Transcend is a confusing emotional rollercoaster for a certain small rodent is no exaggeration. It's why I won't let him watch any horror films fronted by hell's gatekeeper, David Attenborough. However, the appearance of wood veneer (and a few sprigs of curly-leaf parsley) restored piggie equilibrium and together we marvelled at your transformation of a fairly unprepossessing piece of hygroscopic wood substitute. Another winner.

Amazing transformation! Adding the real wood to the drawer fronts really elevated the entire piece.

You never cease to amaze me, Angie! The staining technique was very interesting, and made the finished drawer fronts look great. But, your own veneer?!? Wow. Wonderful transformation

Angie, you get the BEST finish on everything you paint! Whether with brush or roller, it always looks super smooth & streak free. Not a brush mark in sight. Your work is always excellent. Love from Annie, in Cornwall, UK🙂🌸

I absolutely love the new look. Much richer, much more expensive and neat and interesting piece. To me, it doesn’t look “older”, just the opposite. Not too rustic, and I don’t love too rustic things either.

Wow! What a change. the rich browns of the wood is stunning against the dark taupe(?). Beautiful. Another wonderful piece of furniture that will undoubtedly go to a very lucky buyer very soon.

There is another UA-camr in Nova Scotia named Shannon Makes that I think you could do an amazing collaboration with! She has a large house she bought full of antiques that need restoration. I would love to see the two of you work together.

Tip: The wider the saw blade on the band saw, the better the longitudinal cuts will be. The thinner the saw blade, i.e. not as wide behind the saw tooth, the easier it is to make curved cuts. But I'm not talking about the thickness of the band saw blade here, i.e. the thickness of the material, but the width.

Yes indeed. I plan to get a smaller blade for more intricate work but thankfully it came with the resaw blade already attached. :-)

If I were renewing furniture pieces I would definitely take up the offer to subscribe to the woodworking forum. It sounds wonderful.
This piece and others on your channel reinforce my belief in your understanding of the relationships between functional design, aesthetics, and production cost management. That, along with the fact that you are thinking of designing your own pieces, caused the Memphis Movement return to mind.
Not many people have heard of it per se but would recognize the iconic pieces that came out of it. It was actually a school of industrial designers’ tongue-in-cheek rebellion against the mindless “variations on a theme” practice of putting anything and everything in a black box-VCRs, videotape cassettes, tuners, CD players, storage units for the media, radio tuners, amplifiers, stereo speakers, seating, coffee tables, lamps, desks, computers, printers, etc., ad nauseam.
Memphis pieces were designed to bring playfulness and whimsy back into everyday objects in our lives (I treated myself to a neglected Richard Sapper Alessi 9091 Chrome, Brass, & Copper Whistling Teapot, which I restored to almost new condition!)
I saw a number of the pieces in an exhibit in the early 1980s, I can attest that the level of craftsmanship and detail that went into designing and fabricating these required artisans who would have to have had your particular skills, talents, and expertise.

    Angie, lovely work as always!
As a suggestion, would mark in pencil the face you DONT want to glue. You sand after drying anyways and the pencil will come off and you wont mix up which side is which.
Love the mix of dark color and wood.
