This album had some of Dylan's best lyrics, like in this song: «I gained some recognition, but I lost my appetite», or «Lone wolf went out drinking, that was over pretty fast».
Also one of his rudest lyrics... ‘today in the countryside it was hotter than a crotch’...one of my favourite Dylan songs.
Even in "Tough Mama" alone, so many humorous clever lines.

Sweet goddess- born of a blinding light and changing wind.
Silver angel- with a badge of the lonesome rode written on your sleeve.
This song has more great lines than the entire rest of the album imho.
Planet Waves is criminally underrated. It sounds just as good as his 80s records. It was ahead of its time for sure.
Tough Mama feels like it was written for Garcia the way All the Young Dudes was written for Mott the Hoople

Dylan's 70s albums are my favourites of his- Desire, Blood on the Tracks and this one- awesome in every way
The melody at the beginning of the organ solo that closes out the song is stupendous!

All I really know is I was raised on this music and it's like a time machine, takes me back to a beautiful place in my youth. I don't listen to Dylan constantly, but when I do it makes me happy.

This album must have been one of last times he sang with The Band: like The Beatles in Hamburg Dylan and the Band had been fired in the wars of experiencing hostility and great energy, the
music reflects the bounce, rhythm, music resonance and energy of a well-forged partnership.
Not sure about it being one of the last times they played together. they did a tour after that, and recorded the before the flood album, did the last waltz, and he played with individual members well into the 80s
