Have you ever wondered if you're matching your belt with your shoes and other accessories properly? In this belt matching 101 video lessons, I'll show you the two simple rules you need to know to match your shoes and belts like a style expert.
Here's the thing about these rules: they're super flexible, and you can totally break them to fit your personality and style preferences. But you have know the rules before breaking them. So here are the two rules about belt matching:
Rule #1: Match your leathers
Rule #2: Match your metals
In the video, I'll show you a few different examples of how you can use these rules to match your belt, belt buckle, watch and shoes perfectly, every single time. I'll also show you what to do when you don't have a belt that really matches your shoes (like if you're wearing blue or grey suede shoes, for example).

Thanks for the video Brock. I've always targeted to match my leathers and medals, but never had heard it broken down that way before. Kudos to you man. Usually when I buy my shoes, I get the matching belt, that's why I love Allen Edmonds. My concern from Anson is their price point, since it is on the lower side (which I like) how does the quality compare to a premium shoe?
+Michael Duran if you go with their newer line of vegetable tanned leather straps, the quality will be on par with Allen Edmonds, etc. I hear you, though...it's nice to have a high quality belt for each pair of shoes.

They have both an oxblood and a cordovan leather strap. I own both (for now). I say for now because I plan to exchange the cordovan. In my opinion the two colors are so close that it does not make sense to have both. I personally prefer the look of the oxblood. It is a little darker and has a richer hue. Putting the two next to each other, the cordovan looks a little muted and dull. The oxblood seems to more closely match the shoes I have, and pairs better with dark or medium navy colored garments. Again, just my opinion from having them in hand. Love all of my Anson belts. I have nine straps and nine different buckles. I bought all of them, none given as a promotion. All great quality and customer service is excellent. I recommend the box deal they offer on the website.

Plan ahead when purchasing the belt, shoes, and watch. Plan to coordinate. Black and Silver are cool tones, Brown and Gold are warm tones.

You could go with either blue or brown belt. Since brown belts fit more situation, that would be the logical choice if your collection is small, but if you have lots of belts having a brown leather belt and blue canvas and/or suede belts, for example, would make sense.

The Modest Man No dress code. I own a lot of black and darker colors. I wanted to get the black leather strap and a brown strap but idk what to use for buckles or even a third casual strap
+SomeGuyOnUA-cam black and brown is a good start. I'd go with a canvas strap too, either dark grey or olive (probably grey for you). For buckles, definitely black and probably gunmetal (unless you wear lots of gold accessories, then go gold).

My opinion would be not to pair white sneakers with any suit, but if you do, I’d avoid a white belt. Go with something closer to the suit color (navy, charcoal, etc).

You don't need your watch leather bracelet to match your belt and your shoes. Most of the times it looks like you're trying a bit too hard. Shoes and belt should always match; your watch is an accessory - choose something you like (staying classy - case diameters under 40mm) and enjoy yourself.
Is it ok to totally ignore it when it comes to watch leather? I have a navy ostrich strap, but black boots. @@jhorn188 That's about 20% of the video. My goal with sponsored content is always the same: make sure the video would still be valuable if you removed the sponsorship (or swapped the sponsor with another brand). I think this video accomplishes that, but I appreciate the feedback.
