I agree that the 7000s are very good reels. I like mine better than the 6500s. I think they cast slightly further, and the lower gear ratio (4.1-1) makes for good power and torque. They are absolutely fabulous for carp and flatheads! Great video!
What are the side plates made out of? A have a 7000i which developed significant pitting in the anodised aluminium side plates after only couple of years use on a boat. It used to happen on the Swedish ABU's as well, probably not that quickly though. They also had chromed brass versions for saltwater use.
there are some numbers on a washer under the Cast Control Cap (knob)--on the side opposite the handle. however, because no posts mention them, I'm wary of using them on my warranty.
hey your video and the information your sharing would be way easier to watch with that music turned down or off. it was really hard to listen you with the music being louder than your voice
That is not an Abu Garcia reel for starters! It's a fake copy from China that has only Abu written on it, but it is not an Abu Garcia reel...or to be more precise, an ABU Sweden reel.
Thanks, but what species is a “Spotted Cat”? It must be something outside the U.S. because this reel will handle any Catfish species inside the U.S.. The Chinese 7000c3 lacks nothing in the strength department in comparison to the old Swedish models. In fact I would argue it is stronger in structural design. The only thing the Chinese model lacks is a tiny bit of the refinement you see on the Swedish models. Fit on mine is very good. Spool to frame gap is very tight and the reel is very smooth. My only complaints is when I first spooled line on it I noticed it favored one side of the spool with more line and I noticed the spool was off center, this is easily adjusted by adding a shim to which ever end cap is one low side of the spool. I added a shim under the cap on the handle side and it was fixed. Another problem I had was grease, way to much grease packed in it and even in the breaks and drum. I cleaned all unnecessary grease from the reel and gave the carbon drags a dab of CAL’S drag grease just to smooth it out a bit. I’m using it in the surf casting close to a hundred yards on a 12’ Penn surf rod reeling in six ounce sinkers no problems. Heavy lead and bait is the main reason to have a reel with torque like the 7000 with a 4:1:1 gear ratio. No one with any fishing experience will attempt to reel a large fish in without pumping the rod. I tell people all the time the reel needs to be big enough and powerful enough to handle bringing in your casting weight. Drag , thumb pressure and the rod are used for fighting the fish. The reel plays its part but not as a winch. What is your reel of choice for the Bank and “Big spotted cats”?
@@natesplace7809 here is louisiana it is spotted cat/ opelousas cat/ in your neck of the woods it is flathead i would guess, my reels are usa made penn 505 hs. i have 7000s great chunking reels but just will not hold up to bank fishing. i rebuild and maintenance my own reels, just take a 505 and a 7000 spool and measure the spool shaft dia , and drag washers area, not even close. of course the 505s are conventional reels ,not for every one. like your video man, very well done. ua-cam.com/video/rLDXH-cjUZ8/v-deo.html

I think music is the key to videos ❤
And it's annoying ass music!

Why do you guys buy fake chinese reels and then ask for help from ABU enthusiasts? Ask Lee, not Sven.
