Firstly, thank you yet again for a fabulous analysis that gives space to the music and the performance rather than continually interrupting to remain central, which I find so frustrating with some of your peers. Blue October are one of the most underrated bands out there and Justin Furstenfeld is such an incredible song writer and lyricist. He never fails to highlight the true depth of human emotions and the challenges so many people experience. Against a music industry filled with such empty, emotionless, pulp that is consistently pushed through the media as entertainment, be thankful for genuine shining lights such as Mr Furstenfeld and Blue October. I only wish they eventually gain the recognition and success that talent such as this truly deserves.
This is one of my absolutely favorite Blue October songs. I've been a fan since I found them in the early 2000s. I've seen them live about a dozen times and I've had the pleasure of seeing Justin on one of his Open Book tours (where it's just him as he walks you through his life and the music). It's pretty incredible just to listen to any of his songs in the moment, but seeing the evolution of his music from the album recordings to his many live and acoustic renditions, and his constant evolution of every song is just amazing. His life journey has been some extreme ups and downs and even his own music takes on a new meaning to him. He has some REALLY dark music that he isn't proud of and doesn't sing anymore as well. I've cried to this song so many times. If you have listened to 3 songs and you have such admiration for him then it's time you embark down his whole discography, but PLEASE take us with you. You could do a whole series on Justin.
I'm in my mid 50's and have seen quite a few bands in my lifetime. I have to say they are right at the top when it comes to live performances. I've seen them 5 times and each one, lucky enough, was in a smaller intimate venue. One of my favorite bands ever. So underrated. If you know his life story it makes his music even better.
Living in Houston I've been following Blue October since the beginning, even been onstage with Justin. Their very first album The Answers is pure poetry.
I love everything about him and all of his work.... I heard a fairly lengthy interview with him on the radio... I think, and being able to get real and look deep within himself has served him quite well, both in his personal life and in his career .
I watched this at the start of the month and loved it. His voice, the lyrics. The original video with him on the beach was fantastic as he shows true feelings and emotions in relation to the song and story.👍
It would be so cool if you could do a video about the absolutely iconic Simon and Garfunkel performance of Bridge Over Trouble Water in Central Park 1981 :) Art Garfunkel definitely delivered one of the best vocal performances ever!!
This is a beautiful song. Yes, i have a preference to that stripped down style. And rhythmic, poetic, lyrical content. Having a chameleonistic vocal range, is a huge bonus, not all songs get. It's what defines a song as Great. Rather than just good. If a song can tug at your emotions... *every, time you hear it...* then you have a masterpiece. They are rare. And *must* be appreciated for that fact. They are few. *"(One More Year Of) Daddy's Little Girl",* by Dr Hook is another such rarity, that I highly recommend (again. I have recommended it a couple times in the past..stating that it is, *"probably the saddest song ever written".* )
He reminds me a lot of James Blunt. They both have so much emotion in their voices that it sells the song. It doesn't really need much instrumental. Thanks for sharing this artist. I've never heard before.
Great reaction, thanks Bethany. Would highly recommend watching the documentary on Justin called "Get Back Up" from 2020. It's a raw and honest look at the drive behind his music.
Please please please check out SHE'S MY RIDE HOME from Blue October. Words cannot express the depth of what that song has meant in my life and my odyssey through and out from hell. - This one, OMG, just grasps the deep ends in such beautiful ways in ways only Blue October can, Than you for sharing Bethany!!
🤓 Hi Bethany! 👋 I think having some experience with his artistry helped you better understand his style and give a really detailed reaction. Great job! 👏 👏as an INSPIRATIONAL song I’ll give it 3 -😮😮😮 oh yeahs!

I am hoping for you to listen to Kurt Nilsen performing Firestone with Kygo at the nobel peace prize in 2015. The only winner of world idol and being called too ugly for tv by Simon Cowell
@@lisamuller5931 It may be due to habit. It may also be that mass media reinforces this type of usage. Or maybe it may be that the huge difference between love and liking has not been emphasized in novels and stories for centuries. These are analyses that emerged after a brief brainstorming session. Perhaps if there were "English language" literary writers and culture enthusiasts among us, they could tell the truth.
I'm sorry but I don't really think that he is any different from a lot of other acoustic singers and his tonal quality is good but not exceptional. Each to their own.
Music is the language of emotion. When he switches to expressing emotion seemingly out of context of music, I believe he loses his credibility as a musician.. this became an acting performance. At least an opera has tonality that can be expressed in notes. Doubt we’ll find a music sheet accurately representing this piece anytime soon. Many great songs address the topic of fear without using the word.. that is a requirement of a definition.. to not use the word being defined in its definition. That is when creativity is exercised.. I guess I’m saying there’s too much conditioned mind here.. at least for me. Alas, I’m also not traditionally trained in music so take my opinion with a grain of salt. 😊 As a highly respected engineer once said to a composer friend of mine after his piece was played by an orchestra: wow. That went way over my head; I think I’d have to be trained well in music to appreciate it at a level compensatory with all the effort that went into writing and playing it.😂
This man and this band deserves much more attention.

I will never understand, why so many americans so often use the word "love". In germany, it is used only for deepest feelings.
They mean "like"
@@RonyTheNevadian i know, but why they dont use "like"?

I respect you, I don't have a musical ear, so you're right. But I didn't like it. The problem must be my ears :)

Youre crazy. Lol. My favorite live singer of all time.
Sure. I’m sure you’re just as good bud. 😂😂
You are clueless
