      DeutschlandPorsche That's why names are important. You can call anybody that. But there is only one Larry Joe Bird. Just as the commentator said after he dropped 60, in the manner that he did it: " Larry Bird!, Larry Bird!, Larry Bird!" and you knew exactly what he's talking about. Larry Joe Bird

      He did that in the 1st 3-Point shootout. When he first walked into the locker room, he looked at all the guys and said, "So, which one of you are coming in second?"

      It's common knowledge that he put the finger up because he thought the ball before the money ball was the one that won it for him. Google is your friend

    legend has it, he walked in to the locker room before the shootout and asked the other players, "so who came here to win second place? " then he went out there and he didn't even take his warm up jacket off to win his 3rd title in a row. ,

No zone D as it was all man. No free reign around the rim. It's a different game now and a worse one at that. If you notice bird’s form when he shoots is one of a kind. His hand is sort of behind his head at the beginning of his shot. I’ve never in my life seen anyone with this technique. Almost as if he cups the ball in his hand and creates a huge arc. Literally the smoothest release I have ever seen in the history of basketball.

    PEOPLE MENTIONING THE "LOW" SCORE:
    Kevin Love won with 17 points in 2012, Daequan Cook with 19 in 2009, Dirk with 18 in 2006, Hornacek with 13 in 2000...
    Craig Hodges has the record for most points in a round, ever, in 1986 (Bird won that contest). Hodges also has the record for most consecutive shots made with 19, in 1991, and Bird is 2nd with 11, in 1986. Larry is also 4th all-time in most points in the final round, with 22. Oh, and players back then didn't grow up with the 3PT line, plus they now have the money-ball rack which allows for more total points. Just this year, only a couple of players reached 20 points WITH the money-ball rack.
    Go watch the 1986 contest for Bird's best performance, also.

      @JakeStine 4 роки тому

      @@joehalili8468 First off, shooting 40% from 3pt is pretty good even today. A significant number of Bird's 3's were contested shots and last-second heaves from half court. He only took around 2.5 3pt shots per game for the bulk of his career, and usually one of those was a last second heave to end a quarter, and another was him throwing up some junk with 2 or 3 guys in his face. And his avg was still 40%. By comparison, Lillard avgs 40% today and while he certainly shows his range, he also takes 9 attempts a game and most of them aren't deep or contested. The 43% Lillard shoots when wide open helps offset the 35% he shoots when he's actually somewhat covered, and/or when the clock is running down.

    The passage of time has a way of diminishing a player's greatness as compared to current stars and in this regard Jordan has somehow gotten the nod over bird and magic as the GOAT in many people's opinions but having watched all 3 play their entire careers I can't say with any conviction that one was better than the other. They all existed on a different plane to be sure and their will to win and BBall IQ was off the charts but if pressed I would have to say that bird and magic controlled the game in ways that Jordan never could.

      "The passage of time has a way of diminishing a player's greatness as compared to current stars..."
      Nah mate, that's the other way around. I remember when MJ was playing at his best there were a lot of discussions about his greatness, whereas now he's universally regarded as the best basketball player ever no questions asked. Similar with Bird, and Magic, and Kareem, etc. etc. It's always like that, it's so called 'dead paradox'. Present players are always picked much more than past ones. It will be same with James or Durant, of-course any non-moron know they are very very good but they are still getting picked on a lot for every little thing, but 5-10 years after their career is over they'll most likely be remembered as the great ones, no doubt about it.

      You proved yourself wrong, and TheJMSESQ right when you said "Present players are always picked much more than past ones." That's exactly his point, present players are 'picked' as better than their peers from the 80's for example, because they're in the public's attention RIGHT NOW. I see people all the time say LeBron is the GOAT or Kobe, etc, etc when neither could compare to Bird, Magic or Jordan. . .Neither LeBron or Kobe had to face the competition those guys did. LeBron has never had to go through the Bad Boys to get to Magic and the Lakers in the finals! The same with Kobe. I mean they're GREAT players (Kobe, LeBron, Durant) but can't compare to the Bird's, Magic, and Jordans.

      Chris Kavanagh i think he meant getting "picked on" as opposed to just picked and in that regard he makes a bit of a point but its more of a transitory phase. the superstars' games are picked apart somewhat while they're playing but shortly after they retire the average fan's memory of their game is that it was flawless and they become "the guy" until the next great one comes along. i was talking about the players final consideration, many years after they retire. as the years go by those of us who saw bird and magic play in their primes will start to disappear and there will be less of us to make the argument that they're greater than those that came before and after. its happening already. the voices that say MJ was the best are louder and more numerous than ours, just as the guys who argued for bill russell, jerry west, etc. when we were younger are now harder to hear/find. it happens in just about every sport except baseball. as best as i can figure babe ruth is still considered the GOAT by a majority of people asked. he must've been something else to watch,

      ***** if you were around back then you'd understand that its almost impossible to talk about bird w/o mentioning magic and vice-versa. together they changed the game and will forever be linked to each other.

      Joe Gates the winners are in the mid/low 20s these days. bird had 17. he wouldnt when bird played it was a different game, threes arent a very difficult shot anymore and thats why i think the line needs to be moved back but bird wouldnt win in todays game
