Loved the video but I’m here to admit I bought that tweed coat. I draft and sew, but not to recreate brands. I tried to do that for years with Cabbages and Roses (because I couldn’t afford their clothes) and always failed miserably. The shapes were easy but its really about the quality and sheer amount of specially commissioned fabric they use - and for me sourcing fabric I’m happy with that’s not about £100 a metre even when not trying to dupe something is impossible, so cost wise its a wash. Back to the Toast coat - its gorgeous and in such a special bright green tweed with a very unusual cosy cotton lining and some internal structure, well worth £465. Inspecting it now I see that it has raglan sleeves, a straight cut with a very long vent at the back and darts on the top of the shoulders to give them shape. I absolutely wouldn’t be happy wasting almost the same amount of money (not to mention time) on a me-made attempt at a similar one.🎉
I love a “sew the look video” especially with fabric suggestions. Yes! Keep making them.😊
Kate ..you’re a woman after my own heart…I was recently in TOAST too…loved their blanket coat…and often think about how I could make clothes in the style of….and also find good quality fabrics. Noticed that for winter there is still a lot of denim , corduroy and boiled wool around. I also get inspiration from Margaret Howell London, and OSKA which are bit beyond my price range, especially now I’m retired. I also like getting ideas for accessories e.g. nice socks. Anyway thanks for this video….and suggestions of where to find patterns and fabrics…would love to see anything you’ve made or at least know about which things you choose to make ….although I wonder where you would find the time! I’m a fairly new sewer but love Merchant and Mills patterns….I’m making my 5th pair of their EVE trousers…so nice to be able make trousers with a waist rather then elastic. I find trousers with a waistband hard to buy because the waist, hips , crotch and thigh measurements never work out for me with shop bought ones! 😮
Love this edit. It’s like you’ve read my mind. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve looked at Toast pieces and wondered if I could make them instead, especially as they are never complicated designs, just really well cut with amazing fabrics. Really great idea and thank you so much ❤
Yesss i have been self drafting lots of toast inspired clothes lately. It's definitely doable.
So happy you liked it!
Absolutely love these videos - please do more to include other clothing brands - equally fabric sourcing recommendations are so useful. I love the way you break the patterns down using the line drawings and your enthusiasm for the whole creative process- please keep them coming
Excellent video, Kate! Would love to see this done with Sezane as well because they have their classic pieces (Will jacket, Gaspard cardigan sweater, etc) that they bring back season after season and are very core to their brand.
Great suggestion!
Genius idea for a video! Thank you. Other aspirational brands: Me + Em, Oska, Cos, Jigsaw, LK Bennett, White Company...and that's just for starters!
Great ideas 😀
O.M.G. Kate that is absolutely my favourite type of video and it just so happens that I love Toast !
I have ' copied ' their dresses on many occasions using Style Arc patterns and have been happy with the result.
I wouldn’t dare enter a Toast shop for obvious reasons ( the prices are beyond my budget ) but I am forever on their website , but I agree
with you that it’s the quality of the fabric and the muted colours that put their clothes in a different league . So , many ,many thanks .
I loved this Kate especially the side by side shots. I would love you to do it on Stoned & Waisted, they have the most wonderful styles and I am obsessed!! ❤
Great suggestion!
Brilliant Kate , thank you. Another company with amazing muted fabrics is The Drapers Daughter.
Beautiful clothes and amazing patterns to copy them! I’ve nearly finished my Nova coat, first coat ever and now I’ve got the bug! You are right, it’s about the fabrics too. Great ideas, Kate, thank you!
The Olivia Blouse is a great option if you prefer the raglan sleeves thefoldline.com/product/atelier-jupe-olivia-blouse-and-dress/
Loved this video - thanks for getting inside my head! I’ve bought from Toast before I learned to sew (and still do but sale only for knits) and love their style. What made me laugh is that without realising it I have many of the patterns you picked. But you’ve given me some more options which is brilliant. Oska and Plumo are other brands I look at for inspiration … although they’re very similar to Toast 😂, so this is another vote for a series!
Yes, more of this type, please. I love this! 🩷
I love this, and thank you so much for compiling these patterns! Itch to Stitch released their Majorelle shirt after this video was released. I think it is a nice match for the top in Toast top.
Loved this edit for Toast matches, especially the trouser patterns. I'd like to throw in a couple of pattern suggestions - The Megan Nielsen Durban pattern for the dungarees looks like a good match and Merchant & Mills Ellis/Hattie for one of the dresses. There is a designer you don't stock (yet?) Sewgirl in the UK - when interviewed she says a lot of her patterns are Toast inspired. I'm enjoying the comments on other suggestions too. Thank you everyone.
loved this one! had no idea about Toast and now I'm a fangirl. thanks for the introduction!
Brilliant Edit. Thank you for thinking of doing this for us. I too love TOAST's products, styles and fabrics. Can't wait to get going.
Any time!
Yes, please do more of these!
Will be rewatching this many many many times. Honestly the best content on UA-cam. 🎉
Agree 100%
That is some very lovely feedback! 🥰
Would love more of this Kate.
I loved this show. I am always looking at clothes and how I can make what I see in ready to wear. I’ve been meaning to make that last pattern you showed forever and now I’m inspired. Thanks
I loved this video, Kate. Yes please - more.
I agree Kate. I love making clothes but I also love buying them. It’s a real conundrum 🫣
Love this type of video, thanks Kate. Perhaps a Whistles video in the future? They always have stunning dresses, I'm sure there are patterns to copy them. Thanks
Fantastic Kate a mountain of work ...spot on pattern matches ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Yes! Please do more of these. This was brill.
These are my absolute favorite videos that you do!! Please yes, do more!!
I have to say that I have never shopped at toast, but I LOVED this video. Would love to see another! Super work as always x
Thanks so much! 😊
Love the Brand Edit. You might consider a Brand Edit for The Fold London. I love their things!
More please Kate - Zara would be fab
That was a great “edit vlog!” Loved it! Lots to think about. Thank you x
Loved this video. Love the pairing of popular/current RTW styles to patterns. Thanks for doing this for us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I get such a kick out of this. Browsing the frightfully expensive designer labels, and engineering something very similar. These days the minimalist designs are so easy to recreate.
YES - MORE PLEASE
These are great dupes for the classic modern style of Toast, which I admire from afar.
Love this format! Would love to see a Stella McCartney or Sandro edit or even riess or whistles ❤
This is brilliant, thank you. I’m also inspired to think about small changes I can make to a pattern to update it. Yes please to more of these. 😊
Will do!
Yes, I agree, often look at really expensive coats and wonder ....
Was very useful and enjoyed the video
Yep, love this. Thank you!!
Just catching up on posts that I’ve missed, and am now super-inspired,especially by the pants patterns to try this year!
Thank you! I love this format! Please do more brands/ catalogs!
More to come!
This is fantastic! I love these types of videos. This is the exact reason why I got into sewing!
Well..., also to sew exact fit for myself 😊
So glad you enjoyed it!
Oh wow! Thank you for compiling this! If in the future you have the time or inclination, I would love to see a more structured or maybe tailored-like version with a beautiful classic coat (although I loved the one you showed here) and a pair of trousers and a shirt (feminine but also slightly menswearish!). I don't know how one might determine if the pattern is actually well designed so just a few tweaks or if the user needs to make a sample and attempt to modify to their own body. I'm from Canada so never heard of Toast but I can see you did an amazing job recreating the brand!!!
Really appreciate how much time and effort goes into a video like this Kate, and I really appreciate it!
You're so welcome!
Love it - more please!
Fabulous video, thank you Kate. Would love more! One suggestion is Margaret Howell.
Yes! I LOVE Margaret Howell! ❤
Great suggestion!
I loved this video Kate and I really appreciate the effort that went into it. I'm very tempted by the Big Easy Top now! I'd love a similar video on Mint Velvet.
Loved this video and great tips on the fabric too. Appreciate all the research you’ve done, thank you! Would love more of this style of edit! Particularly when it’s really lovely companies with a great ethos but unfortunately we just can’t afford to support them all the time!
More to come!
MORE PLEASE!
Oh that was so interesting Kate, thank you. I would appreciate a similar review of Jigsaw and /or Whistles RTW if you have the time.
Great suggestion!
Excellent idea. I would love to see you do Zimmerman.
I really enjoyed this! Thank you so much! ❤
Yes more of these, and I'd love you to do ME + EM please .
Loved this video. I look forward to all your videos every week. These ones are a treat because you give us ideas on how to make the types of clothes we see in the stores or online but can’t afford. I’m a curvy woman so the size inclusive pattern choices you make to copy the styles are brilliant. Thanks 😊❤
Great video. I hanker after a lot of those toast pieces as well. I caved and bought two dresses in one day this summer, which I love, but I had to sell my husband and non existent children to pay for them. How about looking at Maninthestudio clothes? Simple, linen mostly, pretty clothes. Anyway, thanks for a very useful video.
Love this series! What a good idea , it still shows respect to the brands’s work ❤
Awe KAAAAAAAATE you absolute STAR. 🌟. Thank you for this!! Genius.
You are SO welcome!
What a great idea - thanks Kate. I'd love to see one on Cos if poss please.
Great suggestion!
Thanks for this , please do more of these videos!
More to come!
Great styles! I would do the TAL Car Coat or Vikisews Hayden for the Wool coat because of the raglan sleeves.
LOVE this
Agreed. My youngest loves the New Look sizing and style but the quality is shocking. I’d love to be able to select some patterns for her and use better fabrics and construction techniques to recreate the look she likes
This is super! I'd love to see one for Ba&sh and Sézanne
Love this, thanks for putting it together, must take you ages! I love that cardigan too, and I love to knit - I need a 'Fold line' for knitting patterns!
Me too! When you find one let me know!
I want all of them so beautifull
I loved the episode. Toast is such a big inspiration for sewers. May I suggest you have a look at the French label ‚Sezane‘.
This was great! I will be happy to watch whatever company you choose next! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this video all my life. Thanks Kate! More please.
Hoo-ray! That's great to hear 🥳
Margaret Howell would be wonderful ,please …Thanks for this .
Awesome, just awesome ❤
Thanks a lot 😊
Really enjoyed that Kate, thanks. Would love you to look at COS. 😊
Thank you! Will do!
Love this video so much! I think the best part is you explaining what you wanted to buy! The struggle is real. I would suggest the Sew Liberated pinafore. No buttons but everything else is a fab match. XOX PS This made my weekend much brighter!
Agree agree....Toast is the best. And I often think I wish they did sewing patterns!! Can you imagine! I do think many patterns come close, but their stuff is about the cut and the fabric - its all really good. But the prices are eye watering.....I love the blanket stitch coat atm - retail at £655!
Enjoyed this. Great pattern matches.
Inn Washington DC there is a store called Tuckernuck. Their clothes are well made and I'd like your impression of some off their dresses and tops. They have clothes that fit me, meaning inclusive sizing.
Just thought I would add an extra comment on the Toast lookalike pattern, a coat with raglan sleeves. I have a vintage Vogue pattern - it might still be available somewhere - Vogue, Calvin Klein 2530. I have been sewing for over 50 years and have never thrown a pattern away!
Why on earth would you ever throw a pattern away? I must admit that after my grandkids were all out of the baby stage, and there were no more on the horizon, I bundled up the size 1 and under and took them to Ragfinery, a local sewers thrift shop.
You are smart. You never know when you might want to use them again!
Thanks Kate - I love Toast clothes - how about tackling Oska - even more expensive!
Great idea!!
Thank you so very much Kate. I love toast but don’t have much chance to go to the shops so I appreciate this very much.
As someone who has shopped at Toast but lives across the pond in the US (and happens to have started sewing a little while ago) this was Brilliant! Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching!
Loved this. Thank you so much. ❤❤❤
You are so welcome!
OMG what have you done to me!!! I’ve not really brought rtw clothes for years since pre pandemic/learning to sew but THAT cardigan 😍😍 £215 😱😫🤔
Love this! Toast is my absolute favourite.... The velvet dressing gown in their current collection! Gorgeous. Thank you for putting this together.
You are so welcome!
I suspect high end fabrics make all the difference to me too😉
Brilliant thank you, love Toast! I've made the Merchant & Mills Whittaker pinafore loads as well because I feel it has a toast vibe!
Because of Kate's video I think I'll pull out my Whittaker pattern and make it!
Absolutely!!
More of this.please. i loved it.x
You did very good.thank you
Hey Kate I know this was a while ago but I'm still thinking about it, great video, i adore all of your content!! One expensive brand I'm always drooling over is FREE PEOPLE for the unique and elegant boho designs and I can't often find patterns like them, would love to see what you came up with!!
Also i remember you did one on that fleetwood mac inspired tv series- could you do Gillian Anderson's wardrobe from Sex Education?!! Iconic!
Please do more Edits like this!!
I loved this. Please could you do ME + EM. I had a go at recreating one of their dresses earlier this year and would love to make another piece.
Love all of these .Love Toast. Want them!! Thank you
I love this type of video - thank you! Love Toast also and appreciate the fabric source recos. More please!
OMG! I just went to the Toast website. The clothing is absolutely stunning, you can see the quality, love the design, but the prices! Yes, we can definitely make these clothes, the sweaters if you knit or have a knitting machine are very easy kits. thanks for the tips and the inspiration!. I look forward every Sunday morning for your videos.
Thanks for watching! 🥰
This was such a good idea! I think these styles are so timeless…but like you said, it’s all about the quality fabric. So inspiring!
You are so welcome!
I loved this, yes please Kate if we could have more of one brand, like Cos 😍
I loved this. Yes please more.
Yes please, love this style of vlog, thanks Kate.
HI Kate! Your videos pairing ready made clothing to existing patterns are brilliant. Could I put in a request for another kind of video? My body type is more on the petite side. Petite NOT meaning skinny or thin necessarily, but more narrow shoulders, shorter height, short torso, shorter along the shoulder seams, shorter crotch, etc. Could you do a video on patterns that are geared for petite physiques? I'm starting to loose my love of garment making because I have to make such big adjustments since most current patterns are designed for women 5'5" - 5'9". Also many of the current patterns are so full of gathered waists, oversized bodices, high waist pants, and ruffles or flounces. These are just not complimentary to a smaller frame. They feel frumpy and make me look heavier than I am. Thanks for considering it.
That was fantastic! I love all of your postings- however this type and the wardrobe capsules are hands down the best!! How about Madewell or the Maeve line in Anthropologie?? xo
Glad you like them!
yay! thanks so much Kate this was fantastic! PS I make lots of my clothes but I still love buying clothes too :)
Thanks so much for this Kate - like you and lots of other people I love Toast! So can't thank you enough
Love this idea of finding patterns matching one company’s style. Great idea. FYI, I think Helen’s Closet York Pinafore might be a better match, or at least easier to alter the shape of the skirt, than the shape of the neck. I appreciate this video nonetheless; I feel like we went shopping together.
@rochelleduff9277 I was thinking about York pinafore too!
Love this, right up my street, more like this please
