I would kind of love to know how Kate got ahold of not only the historically accurate vampire books but the historically accurate vampire books that mentioned Angelus specifically. What kind of luck does that take and why can’t I have it?
The invite rule only applies to a living being's property (possibly only humans, I forget). Vampires don't afford such protection because they are dead. Public places are also open as everyone is welcome.
Small correction it is "home" not property. Doesn't matter who the place belongs to. If a human considers it its home, vampires can't enter..even if the landlord is a vampire.
He got run over by basically a tank. So many broken bones and considering his age - full recovery is unlikely. Lets hope it won't stop him from acting.
Yes that’s a very young Jeremy Renner. I just watched his first movie, National Lampoon’s Senior Trip. Luckily he grew into his big ,expressive eyes. I hope he’s healing well.
Last Resort was the first thing I ever saw him in, he played a pretty good knock-off Spicoli if I remember correctly. This was the second, and an impressive performance. His later films (including the MCU) made him one of my favourite actors.
Yup, Renner, and a joy watching it back these days to spot pre-megastar actors as breakout parts in the Buffyverse. Renner makes an awesome villain, thanks for the react!
Yeah I remember seeing this for the first time and recognizing Jeremy Renner right away because he hasn't even changed his hairstyle in 20 years, but then I was so confused when I heard him speak. 😅 His voice has changed soooo much!
What I like about Cordy she does exactly what a person with a brain would do in the scene she notices that she is pumped for info and than pulls up the curtains ❤
This is honestly my favorite first season Angel episode. I like they get more into the psychic connection between vampires and their sires. Though it's only hinted at in Buffy, I don't believe anyone just comes out and says it as clearly as this episode.
EDIT: Thanks for the replies and opinions. Please be aware that answers to my post contain spoilers, so please do not read them in case you‘re not familiar with both shows. Thx. I‘m not sure if the split between Angel and Angelus is right. 🤔 I think Angel and Angelus are in the end the same demon who calls himself Angel when he has a soul and Angelus when the soul is gone. The soul is the one thing that stops him from being evil because he is able to feel guilt, pain, pity, mercy etc. and also love and therefore he is able suffer. When the soul is gone he is relieved from this pain and acts evil. But even with the soul Angelus (so to say his dark side) is always there. Thats also why he is able to show his demon face whenever he wants and why he is so afraid to lose control. It’s literally always present for him. Also I think that the curse says that if he experiences a moment of true happiness the curse will be lifted which means that he loses the soul and „becomes“ Angelus. So everything that makes him truely happy could be risky not only being with Buffy. Thats how I understand it.😅 I really love your reactions. 😊
It’s a bit complicated. Angel is Angelus. The addition of the soul makes him feel accountable for everything he did as Angelus. But with a soul comes all that guilt and remorse and it totally transforms his behavior as if he’s a different person. Angel, would never do those things. So while he’s not a different person he is a different personality. So while it doesn’t seem fair that Angel has to pay the price of guilt for everything he did as Angelus, without that guilt, he would probably just be Angelus. He might be capable of all the evil a human is capable of but that guilt keeps him in check. Combine that and learning to be a hero from Buffy, it makes him who we consider Angel to be today. But underneath, he really is still Angelus. Remove Angelus and we’re left with the guy from I Will Remember You. Simply a mortal human with the memories of Angelus but not burdened with the demon of Angelus. (And possibly not even burdened by the guilt of Angelus, considering that the part of him that did that was truly gone and not just suppressed.)
Angelus admitted to loving Buffy in season 2. And this is were the whole Angel or Spike who's better for Buffy and who's better comes into play. Angel If he truly was bad like everyone else claims he would just have gave in and lost his soul. When he sleeps with Darla he doesn't lose it. Spike could be happy and he wouldn't lose his soul. Also Angel was forgiven with the Mora demon. So I think when he wishes the day back it created a whole separate time line. I love both characters but I think Angel is the best and little better. And def not selfish to give up his happiness for all of this.
@@zemoxian You remove the demon, not Angelus. Angelus is not synonymous with the vampire demon, it's the demon plus personality, just like in any vampire. Angel is the demon plus personality plus soul.
16:25 No it just if a human lives there they must invite the vampire in, If someone that doesn't live there invites them it doesn't work. With a demon home no invite needed.
If you want to see another time Jeremy Renner was the bad guy, look for the movie S.W.A.T. with Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell. There is quite the showdown between Colin Farrell and Jeremy Renner at the end. For me there was also the fact that, as a little boy in the 70's, I watched the TV series the movie was based on. The characters Jackson and Farrell play were characters from the original show.
I've never known for sure but, I've always suspected that Jeremy Renner doing this episode really helped him get the role of Hawkeye in "The Avengers"! Joss Whedon has a tendency to cast actors who have worked in his projects before so, I don't think it's entirely a coincidence that the actor playing Hawkeye in "The Avengers" (which was written/directed by Joss Whedon) just so happened to be a Buffyverse alum. Obviously, I don't know for certain if Whedon even had a say in the casting of Hawkeye but, since he wrote/directed the film that fully introduced the character to the MCU, I find it very likely that he did (I mean, I don't think Kenneth Branagh would've been in charge of casting Hawkeye just for his little cameo in "Thor"). And to, belatedly, answer the question about vampires being invited in... The implication tends to be that if it's not a person's permanent residence, a vampire doesn't need an invitation (because it's not their home). So, most hotel rooms and other public spaces can be entered without an invite. And vampires never need an invitation to enter another vampire's living space (same goes for demons).
angel is still angelus. he is still someone who killed countless people and she has a right to have feelings towards him in regards to that. his soul gives him guilt and pain and makes him act good, it does not make his demon side go away. it only makes him choose to not act that way because he feels bad about it. its not that he is a different person with or without the soul, its that the addition of a soul is what makes him choose to be angel. like a sociopath who gains a concience. i feel like they made a really simple explanation in the beginning of buffy that wasnt really hold true to what the actuality is in the show. since most vampires are not fleshed out characters. but who they are as a person is still in there as a vampire, but without remorse or pain or anything. souless spike loves his girlfriend. vampire willow had parts of willows personality still but with the confidence of not caring. being a vampire isnt like demon posession, its like a merging of soulessness and blood lust with who you were as a human. so while angel is attoning and is very different when he cares and has a soul, he is still the demon who did all those things. its not like a demon was there and then has been cast out. its like its caged inside him and he can feel it and struggle with it.
Yes, being turned into a vampire is like someone rooting around in your brain to destroy the parts responsible for conscience and empathy and transform you into a psychopath with a propensity to violence. Gaining a soul is like having conscience and empathy restored, but still retaining violent tendencies you have to continuously keep under control. That control can slip, so people are justified in mistrusting you.
It seems that the invite rule only applies for humans. Vampire and demon homes do not count. Neither do motelrooms and the like even if you are a fairly permamnent resident, it still counts as a sort of 'public property'
24:23 Angel absolutely is Angelus. And he did think it was a-ok to kill people and now is reformed. The difference is, with a soul, Angel has a conscience and feels the guilt of all the destruction he's caused. Angelus does not have a soul holding him back from committing untold pain and suffering. The gypsy gave Angelus a soul for him to feel the loss and hurt he caused them, so now the demon is now sort of dormant but always there. They're not different people. But yes, with a soul, he's different but not separate from Angelus.

R.I.P. to a Legend
3:22 Yes, They left Doyle in for the extra episode so you wouldn't know that Wesley was going to be here.
If only they did that for Charisma during the first episode, or just not have an intro, like the first episode of Buffy.
30 broken bones ran over by his tractor and they say he will never walk again. I feel for him.Amazing actor.
I think what your describing as Kate unable to process that vampires exist even after witnessing it is called "cognitive dissonance".
"Avengers Assemble" - Xander Harris, Buffy, Season 4. Well, I guess we got one.

This is such a great episode
Nobody notice Pedro Pascal in Buffy 4:1 as 'Dead Eddie' Buffy's 'friend' Sunday vamps. Well if they do they never say anything.

The entering rule as I understand it: Vampires cannot enter a living human's place without permission.
If a person is dead then a vampire can enter
the vamp rule is it a human owns and is alive a vampire can't enter the house. public places and places owned by vampires or demons are ok.
