Can't believe the comments! Idolising Janis, criticising P!nk, finding faults in timing and pitch... With all due respect to Janis Joplin, Alecia Moore - or P!nk - has been an amazing talent from her beginnings, like Janis was - almost spoiled by the industry but luckily recoiled back and remains consistent with her rock-based affinities. Technically, she is a great vocalist, learned and perfected her voice over time, worked with some great mentors (Linda Perry being one). It does not make sense comparing her singing with the technique of Janis Joplin. P!nk, adding to her talent and expressiveness, has been consistently working on her vocal technique. Janis was a heroin and alcohol addict and that was affecting her performances. You must nor forget that P!nk is a complete author of her music like Janis was. They have quite a lot in common. It is a shame that Janis died being only 27 years old. P!nk will be 38 this year. The song It is an urban country song composed by Kris Kristofferson, with so many great renditions since the one that Janis Joplin recorded. The session The session on UA-cam was a very old and an informal family gathering of Pink and her father Jim Moore who was a Viet veteran, not a professional guitar player. All the nitpicking for the performance really does not make much sense. Just enjoy the music!
you can tell shes well versed when she tells him to change the key from G to A, and then when they change the key again, the guitar goes to a different key then shes expecting for a second, but they fix it on the fly, most singers would not have noticed that, and the guitar player would switch keys to be with her, but instead, she did the fixing, as far as the pitch and tone, shes doing subtle signature things that janis used to do, while keeping her own style, as far as the vietnam vet, 2 reasons, this song was HUGE during vietnam, and shes playing it more as an emotional tribute then as a piece of repertoire
Girl, I played keyboard on the original studio recording of this. This was the only recording of Me & Bobby with a keyboard on board with Janis. My good friend Sam Andrews (Big Bro & the Holding co.) didn't want a piano in the band. So that was it. You came pretty close to reminding me of that set with this cover. Kudos.
Stephen, you must have some interesting stories.....Janis rocked out supported by the best musicians. Big Brother/ Holding Co, Kozmic Blues Band, & Full Tilt Boogie Band. Did you sit in on any of these?
@@chisflanagan5498 Hi Chris, my relationsjp with Janis was mostly personal. It was the sixties and that means it was always a little foggy - which is sort of hard to explain if you weren't there. Sam Andrews was my friend then, and right up to his death 7 years ago - he was just a couple of years older than me. Janis and I were exactly the same age. I was a pianist/keyboardist and Sam and the other guys at BBHC and KBB were devotees of the Electric phallus so I never played with them. We jammed sometimes, tho, because I was a session musician. I'm really old now, and they say that if you remember the sixties - you didn't do them right. Well, I must've done them right, because I remember only certain scenes, sort of as flashbacks. Certain moments. Can't get the year or the sequence right most of the times. But of course the intimate moments stay pretty vivid and those I won't talk about. Visit Janis' Wikipedia page. You'll see me on there in the "various bands'" section and in the "solo career" section. Not much else to tell.
@@stephenryder1995 Hey Stephen, thanks for sharing what you do remember from so many years ago. My brother-in-law is retired now, but he was a sound guy for decades. He toured with Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon and others. He might even have met you. Small world.
@@chisflanagan5498 after 8/10ths of a century on the planet you begin to see patterns in types of people. I observed that some professions seem to be unchangeably hard-wired into people from the start. Policemen, photographers and musicians are three of the personality types that never change. These folks always were what they wound up to be, and no amount of time or circumstance alters that mentality. Other folks try this and try that and try to 'find themselves' but a musician is hopelessly smitten with the music from 8 to 80.
@@stephenryder1995 hey Stephen, it's Chris from a few months ago. As corny as this may sound, I haven't forgotten your words of wisdom. shes so awsome. She had a hard time in life so anything good that comes along she deserves.Iv watched her grow up and shes just beautiful inside and out.Love her.
It is evident she enjoyed singing this song. Probably the second best rendition I've ever heard, had me seeing visions of Janice throughout. Good enough I think to gather up more band members and taking another whack at it. Didn't Janice have a unique voice? Gutteral, raspy, soulful. And she put her heart in it. Go for it Pink, you're singing is right up there.
I have never been a Pink fan. Why? Quite simply because I wasn't exposed to her. I now realize I have been missing out. I had no IDEA she covered this song. She nailed it. She loved singing it. She glows while singing it. She is beautiful.
Some singers out there might get close, but I have never seen anyone nail the ending so friggin perfectly. Wow. That's usually where they fall apart and that's where Pink can do a mic drop, I swear.

I'm a young adult now, but I can still remember sitting with my dad as a kid, and watching this with an amazed reaction, stunned by her voice and skill. She's one of a kind, truly. A beautiful woman, and an amazing role model to young women 💕✨
Do a little research and you'll find she wasn't the first one to put it out on a record either. It was a different woman, with a much more sultry, jazzy, raspy voice. Janis was NOT the first woman to do this song.
Really? I think the guitarist is fantastic. There was only one part, where she goes to the "Freedom's just another word" in like the third chorus, where he got caught short, but I think that part varies between versions. That's actually the one I'm trying to figure out right now. Edit - the part where he was a beat slow switching to the D chord was probably on him, and it doesn't seem to differ between versions, either.
The amount of talent AND confidence it would take to even come close to Joplin's version was seemingly impossible....until 5 mins ago when I found this video. Wow, just....WOW! CHILLS! Well, gotta go. Have to watch this about 300 more times.

+Brett Carter I agree- my wife and daughter told me to check it out and I actually did and hate to admit that they are right lol. She is really a good diverse singer.
Prince
Wow. I can't believe this slipped through the cracks. Fantastic rendition and I just found it. I knew Pink could sing, but....wow this is just incredible!!
Huh huh

spectacular
This song kept me alive during the '70s when I was living in squats and making a precarious living as a busker on the London Underground... Must say, I don't know much about Pink or her music, but if this is typical, I think I'd like to hear more from her. She does Janis Joplin (and even Kris Kristoffersen!) credit! 'Onya Pink! Well done! 😊
Im not a big fan of covers but....Pink.......you kicked ass! Totally rocked that song! You did Janis Joplin proud!
Janis only covered it herself.
@@Doniedaff really? I didn't know that. Do you know who sang the original?
@@randomaggie6455 Kris Kristofferson
@@Doniedaff wow! I'll have to check that out. Thanks
You should check out What's up she done awesome in it as well
That Woman is powerful!! I think I'm in loVe. She knows what she wants and gets it. I've written some poems down with some life experiences, would kick ass if she SanG some, dreaming, then I wake up, and reality sirs in and I listen to the music to get me through it, thNks again bombshell of voice!!

As far as I can tell, she can't sing anything badly. I believe this lady is one of the purest talents of our time.
Jennifer Reed
Jennifer Reed absolutely agree!
Of our time.....Pink? This is why music blows now days. Can we at least get some people who can play an instrument? My money is on Adele's voice by the way.
and you sir an idiot...see how that works?
I'm going to go ahead and tell you I don't give a fuck what you say about music in general...you like Cinderella so I'll leave it at that. I won't go into the other shit 80's and 90's music you seem to enjoy. Keep your hard on for Pink my man and keep that shit hair band flag flying.
Always brings energy and life to her performances and this version of that famous song is brilliant. I WANT MORE
🏡
Best rendition I have ever heard. Love her voice.

Janice?
Janis Joplin, the singer who made this song famous. Unfortunately she died before it was released. First woman of rock and roll.
Another 27?
Ginger Thompson o
The song
It is an urban country song composed by Kris Kristofferson, with so many great renditions since the one that Janis Joplin recorded.
The session
The session on UA-cam was a very old and an informal family gathering of Pink and her father Jim Moore who was a Viet veteran, not a professional guitar player. All the nitpicking for the performance really does not make much sense.
Just enjoy the music!
Dan Bosak and the relevance of being a Viet veteran here is?
Christopher Smith
eat donky turds
you can tell shes well versed when she tells him to change the key from G to A, and then when they change the key again, the guitar goes to a different key then shes expecting for a second, but they fix it on the fly, most singers would not have noticed that, and the guitar player would switch keys to be with her, but instead, she did the fixing, as far as the pitch and tone, shes doing subtle signature things that janis used to do, while keeping her own style, as far as the vietnam vet, 2 reasons, this song was HUGE during vietnam, and shes playing it more as an emotional tribute then as a piece of repertoire
Lie to me
Girl, I played keyboard on the original studio recording of this.
I'm referring to you saying that musicians are hardwired from early age and are exactly where they should be in life. No searching to find themselves. Well, those words are still in my head today. Right now, I'm at a point in life where decisions need to be made. I want you to know that your words have helped me think in a positive manner. Enjoy your day. And thanks again.
Been a fan of this Janis song for over 50 years - one of the best renditions I ever heard. Thank you, Kris K. for a fantastic tune…

Wow. First time hearing this and I am blown away. Fabulous Pink, just fabulous!

Pink is awesome she really nails this song. I never really caref for pinks music but after listening to this song i think ill listen to more of her songs
I have no words.... My God what a voice..!!

WOW! She has such an amazing voice! Great version of this classic! Nailed it Pink!!!!
Classic awesome tune she made even better....., then the cutest little 'oops, I didn't change chord's on time cuz I'm so taken by you Pink' just freakin' adorable!!!! Love this!!!! Makes our heart's smile :),....
I am an old man and my kids would kid me about loving PINK, but WOW WHAT A TALENTED, VERSATILE, AND BEAUTIFUL VOICE AND WOMAN!!!
Thought I wrote this comment myself. No better performer this decade.
She's amazing! My mom, who's in her 60s, and I got to see her in concert last year and it was the best concert ever! The crowd was so diverse with all different ages. How could anyone not like her? She is a beautiful and talented woman!
Punk is one of kind
Pink has always had one of the better voices of her generation. Check out her version of Bohemian Rhapsody, it’s exactly what you’d expect 😎
@@triciag3311 She's 40, you dummy. You must be really young.
*I was expecting to turn it off right away, but I was more than pleased with her rendition!! AWESOME Pink, you go girl!!!!*
Keith Good thank you for your honesty. There are a lot of people who won't even give it a chance
Keith, in a way same here, I love Janis and didn't think anyone could even come close to her, but the fact I love pink I had to give her a chance and glad i did.
I about did the same myself. I figure i give it a shot until opening verse. Glad i did.
Best mix right here
Keep listening
I wish I could "like" this video a thousand times. It's just that magnificent
Hi David
shes so awsome. She had a hard time in life so anything good that comes along she deserves.Iv watched her grow up and shes just beautiful inside and out.Love her.
If you are not friends and see her frequently in real life, you know absolutely zero about her. Period.
Pink has the best FEMALE VOCAL of our time!! Just beautiful. Janis would be very proud of Pink here...FoSure!!
if you like Janis, try listening to Beth Hart live from Amsterdam.
Great rendition. I love the quality of her voice in this song.
Hi 👋
Absolutely BRILLIANT, she's singing so raw and with passion. A huge like from me. ❤

I listen to this over and over and over again. Amazing!
Hey Vicky
As an old fart, I generally don't care for modern remakes of such sacred classics. Pink is an exception.
Hi Shane
Yep And The Young Courtney Just On DIFFERENT same Waves .....❤😊❤❤❤❤😊😊😊. But THAT WAS AWESOME to See and Hear You Do Your Beautiful TALANT'S
Whats the first? Do u mean Janis or another cover?
I love this angels voice for real’’
Damn!! She tore that up! Love that raspy voice and such a beautiful lady!
I think Janis would be proud of this version.
Pink
I have never been a Pink fan. Why? Quite simply because I wasn't exposed to her. I now realize I have been missing out. I had no IDEA she covered this song. She nailed it. She loved singing it. She glows while singing it. She is beautiful.
Eric1SanDiego1 She never covered it, but she's always been a fan of Joplins. I think Pink was in one of Janis' documentaries called Little Girl Blue 🙄
I couldn't agree more spot on comment

She does an excellent job of singing this song!!! ♥️

Pink is definitely one of the top 10 if not top 5 female singers or our time.
totally and whole heartedly agree very underrated
Along with Stevie Nicks, Chrissie Hynde, Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson, Linda Ronstadt to name a few others.
aside from her doing an amazing job, I love that she just looks happy to do the song and the little laugh fit perfectly
Some singers out there might get close, but I have never seen anyone nail the ending so friggin perfectly. Wow. That's usually where they fall apart and that's where Pink can do a mic drop, I swear.
Necroticus yeah, those ..."Na na na, na na na na..." lines will trip up the best of them. Other than that, she did surprisingly well.
I dare say I think pink does this song better than janis
@@chrisw1430 Well u can say that....however I wager u were not there...then..60's (kidding) .however, she does the best version I've heard (and Crystal Bowersox).as well are the only ones to have done it;

I'm a young adult now, but I can still remember sitting with my dad as a kid, and watching this with an amazed reaction, stunned by her voice and skill. She's one of a kind, truly. A beautiful woman, and an amazing role model to young women 💕✨
I hope Pink is around long after I am gone. She is a classic and a legend before her time and should be considered that.
i agree.
signing this.
It's not a Janis Joplin song.
She didn't write it, but she sure made it hers. When most people think of this song, they think JJ you don't think of KK
Do a little research and you'll find she wasn't the first one to put it out on a record either. It was a different woman, with a much more sultry, jazzy, raspy voice. Janis was NOT the first woman to do this song.
Pink CLEARLY has the right "voice" to sing this song. Whoever suggested she sing it gets a gold star next to their name
2024, glad I found this!!❤❤❤
Hi 👋
Man. I'm 71 and I was young when Janis hit the big time .Pink sounds just like her .Janis would be proud that's for sure
I would like to officially acknowledge the guitar player for keeping his concentration for as long as he did.
I thought he struggled through it lol!
Yeah, I thought he struggled, but at the end of the day it's just my opinion......dont count for nothin' really.
I mean she is really distracting, can you imagine playing with her face to face?
Chris Fouke He was definitely attracted to her and Pink knew it, by the way she seemed to "tease" him. Hahaha
No one but PINK could do this cover justice...you make JANIS proud!!!❤❤❤
What about kris.
❤most definitely made him proud! For those who might not know, Kris wrote this timeless awesome song ...thanks KRIS ❤

The amount of talent AND confidence it would take to even come close to Joplin's version was seemingly impossible....until 5 mins ago when I found this video. Wow, just....WOW! CHILLS!
Well, gotta go. Have to watch this about 300 more times.
Pink is absolutely incredible. This rendition moved me to tears.
