Nicely presented and explained. I also enjoy the 'magic' of improvising. Singing melody on the bass line first very helpful. Thanks. Look forward to being a new subscriber.
I learned to play by mostly making notes on the guitar and went with the flow of those notes to build upon it. I Learned to hit a bass note or cord to keep the timing and feel of the song alive. I never knew what I was doing was a thing, and then I just found your lesson here and realized hey I guess I stumbled across a bone fid system of creating music. I love your music it is the type of music I got pulled into playing the guitar with. Thanks for the tips and guidance on this musical journey.
Hi, thanks so much for the comment! Really glad you enjoyed the video. And thanks for the story, I really like to hear about people’s different ways of learning and playing guitar! Cheers 😊👍
Hi there, thanks for the comment. Yeah that can be a little tricky. Is it because you can't find the notes on the fretboard? Or because what you hear in your head is too hard to play?
not so much difficulty as finding the notes w/o interfering with the tune in my head...I'm no beginner player, but yet I'm not advanced either...I would consider myself intermediate on the cusp of advanced...I've come a long way relative to where I started, but I'm growing a little frustrated b/c I seem to b stuck...of late, DADGAD had piqued my interest...I need a teacher.
@@johnmcleod8961 Yeah I find these moments of feeling stuck very frustrating as well. The longer I've been playing for then the longer I get stuck in these ruts. Having a teacher is a great way of getting yourself out of a rut for sure!
With regard to finding the available notes above a fingered bass note as you described, do you ever use a thumb over technique on the 6th string in order to enhance the higher available notes? Many players use it to great affect, though I'm not one of them, havng only dabbled with it on occasion. I probably need a fatter thumb. 😄
Hi, yeah that's a good question, I actually used to use my thumb for bass notes a lot more but now as my technique has developed I don't use it as much. I prefer to have my thumb lower down behind the neck so that I can get the most reach out of my fingers. I find if my thumb is up hitting bass notes then it's harder to stretch my fingers. That also could be because I don't have particularly big hands and the neck on my guitar is fairly wide compared to other steel string guitars. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
this is very insightful...my biggest problem is transferring to my fingers what I hear in my head...thank you so much.
