This was a phenomenal video my friend. Every time I thought of something I wished I could see better, you gave us a better view. Thank you for your patience and effort!
Love this Hammock Mr Messner. I still have the DD Frontline which I find comfortable once I am settled. But as with all hammocks you have the fun of getting in and settled down first!! Also bought a Dura II bag with a front zip which makes the process so much more dignified!!! The only thing I find with Hammock camping is it takes a few mins to get over the sea sick swing!!! Great video mate...
I use pretty much the same setup and agree that it is great hammock. I also agree that the small tarp is a little too small. I use the Hennessy Hex Fly for weather protection. I use the same method with the carabiner and rings. They work nice :) Thanks for sharing the video - Martin
Great minds think alike, Martin :). The rings make adjustment very easy. The Hennessy tarp does a good job at protecting the hammock but it doesn't cover much else. I like a little more room under my tarp to cook, work and keep my gear stored. The DD 3x3 tarp does this well. Thank you for watching. Paul.
Found your channel while researching the Hennessy Hammock. One thing.. in wet conditions I would mount the tarp before sliding off the snakeskins. And when breaking camp, slide on snakeskins before removing the tarp. That aside, This video got me one step closer to purchase.. damnit 😁
+Ola Andersson Hi. Thank you for watching the video. Glad you enjoyed it. If it's raining I always put the tarp up first. I don't often use the hennessy fly now though as it is a little small. I would recommend choosing the larger tarp they supply. I use a 3x3m tarp with diagonal setup most of the time now, as seen on my other videos. I highly recommend the hammock though. Extremely well made and very comfortable. All the best. Paul
I found your channel and started watching vids and hit the sub button. I have had this same hammock for the last two seasons. Great hammock! I use the under quilt. I struggled to get the right setup as far as how tight to set it up. Now that I know what I like, it is a great nights sleep for me.
Thanks for watching and for the sub....I agree it's a great hammock. I prefer to use the exped mat now instead of the underquilt. Each to their own I suppose...ATB Paul
Hi Paul, you look very young in this video. I'm sure Reggie might struggle in a hammock. I'm thinking about buying one of these, perhaps you should do an updated review, now you're a full time professional UA-cam'er. Great video mate, happy camping 👍
It does look a nice bit of kit. I'm solely a ground dweller. I sleep on my side with arms and legs everywhere lol. Tarp in summer, tent in winter for me. Cheers.
Evening Mr Friz...I am a side sleeper too so that's probably why I prefer to sleep on the ground. Lake District next weekend so I'm going for luxury and taking the Vango Zenith. ATB Paul
whats the reason for the extra caribinear on the tarp? it looks like it's meant to just clip right on to the one on the hammock? I just ordered one but went with the larger tarp that says needs to be tied to the tree, kind of regretting going for that one when I see how easy this one is!
Dear Paul Messner, Sir. May I take a moment of your time that I may bolster the good comments made by all about your goodself. There right it's a good presentation clear concise jam packed with classy information. Not a tarp man myself... I do enjoy to see any outdoors camping especially wild styling. I look forward to seeing your Vango trip soon All the best From Craig Lee White.
good video i have the same Hammock and my set up has rings and tree huggers at both ends, that way it is easier to move the hammock to the position you want between the trees. I also have the larger Hexfly as i found the one that came with it a bit small, if you put a roll mat in-side have a open sleeping bag under you and a cheep duvet over me then you can sleep diagnally and on your side i know thats bulky so i only do that for my week camps
Thanks for watching. I have an exped synmat 7 that I sometimes use instead of a roll mat. It's really warm but has a tendency to wander off in the night :). I have to have it only inflated about 50% but find this still offers great insulation from underneath. I just need to find a way to keep it secure in the hammock. ATB Paul
The key for a flat/flatter lay is a ridge line strong enough to hold your weight, dyneema is perfect for this. Henge hammocks sell adjustable ridge lines to find the best length for anyone's preference, and being the same length each erection the sag/flat lay is consistent too. I have the DD superlight range and havent tried the mozzy net yet but it's cool to be completely removable. I assume the frontline doesn't work with a saggg hammock as intended and I imagine it's annoying with such things as the rods to hold it up. I can't fathom how Hennessy do the all in one pack system, I'd love to incorporate it into the DD superlight hammock/tarp
Great video, I've just got the DD travel hammock but have not used it yet. I definitely need to get the tree huggers with carabiner and rings as it looks a lot easier.
Philip Nicolson Glad you enjoyed the video. The travel hammock is a very good piece of kit. will you be using an underquilt or a pad to insulate you from underneath? ATB Paul
a lot money them hennessy hammocks, I see to ground dwell all the time but after breaking my back have gone over to hammocks now, after much looking i use the tenth wonder super xl hammock which is 3mx 1.8m, use with a structural ridge line and I can lay dead flat on the diagonal, I have a 4mx4m tw tarp to give me plenty of room for admin/cooking etc, really like your videos, cheers craig
Thanks for the comment Craig. The Hennessey is a bit on the expensive side but it's good quality and comfortable. I've heard good things about the tenth wonder. Glad you like it. WOW..4 x 4 tarp...I bet that takes up some space in the pack. I find the 3 x 3 is the perfect size for me. ATB Paul
I normally use the DD 3x3 with this hammock. The travel hammock is very versatile as you rightly say can be effectively used as a bivi when needed. I'll look out for your video. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Do you have a system for ensuring that the asymmetrical shape of the tarp is easily set up the right way to match the shape of the hammock? Especially in the dark.
excellent hammock. I would definitely switch out the rope for whoopie slings and avoid the 2 rings. they would often slip. so true huggers, crab attached to a marlin spike hitch then directly on to the whoopies. I did the mod myself (very successfully) and I am really not the practical type.
The Hennessy is a great Hammock. Really comfortable. I only upgraded due to cutting pack size and weight. I had the zip version. Not sure how I'd get on with the one where you enter from the bottom 👍
I use a couple of rings to act as rain break. You can also add some string on a prussik knot to act as a rain break. I have a video on this. Also check out Shug....He makes some brilliant hammock videos. Thanks for watching. ATB Paul
Useful as ever Paul without the fluff. I am
Considering getting a hammock so this has been very useful.

Getting into the sleeping bag is an art form....I've not mastered that yet. The Dura does make it easier. Thanks for watching
thanks for the video, looking forward to try the carabiner and rings set up method
Glad you found it useful. Let me know how you get on with it.

Another fantastic video and my wife will get on to me for another item I spent money on. What flowers do you recommend?
:)...don't blame me Mike. I suggest a big bouquet of roses. Thank you for watching.

Well when you order the hennessy hammock their is an option for the larger fly, which is well worth it.
Great advice. The standard one is a bit tight. I've since upgraded to a chameleon and warbonnet tarp. Thanks for watching
Thanks Paul, an incredible video for setting up the hammock and for the review!

Cheers Craig. Hopefully there will be a video of the trip on Sunday.
Cool idea with the rings. I am going to use that one :)

just set up my new DD 3X3 tarp and DD travel lite/bivvy hammock today, it is sweet, video to follow., great vid, cheers
I normally use the DD 3x3 with this hammock. The travel hammock is very versatile as you rightly say can be effectively used as a bivi when needed. I'll look out for your video. Thanks for watching.
great video! i like the ring idea
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Do you have a system for ensuring that the asymmetrical shape of the tarp is easily set up the right way to match the shape of the hammock? Especially in the dark.
I set mine up in the day and the marked the head end of my fly and hammock with a simple tie of orange paracord
excellent hammock. I would definitely switch out the rope for whoopie slings and avoid the 2 rings. they would often slip. so true huggers, crab attached to a marlin spike hitch then directly on to the whoopies. I did the mod myself (very successfully) and I am really not the practical type.
That was the plan but in the end i upgraded to the chameleon due to the reduction in weight. The hennessey is still a great hammock though
Great informative vid paul thanks Mate.
Great review. Thanks for posting~! Also nice Casio watch.
Nice hammock!
Great video! Very helpful.
Very good review thank you for your time and effort
Hey up Paul, I know you now have the chameleon but how did you get on with the hennessy. Currently bidding on one on a whim
The Hennessy is a great Hammock. Really comfortable. I only upgraded due to cutting pack size and weight. I had the zip version. Not sure how I'd get on with the one where you enter from the bottom 👍
Thats the one I'm bidding on. I like to be able to roll up my bug net. Doh
i use the same set up but why have the extra crab on the fly??
Cuz he likes the extra weight maybe?
high just bought this set up but i am worried that rain and snow will run down the tethering system and onto me. what is your experience?
I use a couple of rings to act as rain break. You can also add some string on a prussik knot to act as a rain break. I have a video on this. Also check out Shug....He makes some brilliant hammock videos. Thanks for watching. ATB Paul
Thank you for this review!
Thanks for posting!
Suspension looks less than 30° which can damage the hammock if you didn't have a structural ridgeline.
I'm glad to see tony sopranos kid all grown up.
Have you been whacked yet? :)
Great info! Thanks!
Thanks and great review,cheers
This is a great review. Looks fabulous. atb phil
wildphil64 cheers Phil. It's a very good hammock. it's very well made and easy to pitch ATB Paul
