    "Hooker With A Penis" from Tool's "Ænima" album (1996).
    Never have I typed the word "Penis" so much before... Anyway, this is the first Tool video on this channel and it will not be the last one. I hope so anyway. I actually wanted to wait with Tool and improve my sound so that I could somewhat mimic the sound of Justin's bass. However, I could not wait and went with the shit sound I have, so enjoy the terrible bass sound. Now for the song, like any Tool song, it has some difficult parts. The first minute is quite simple but fast. Why does it look like I only strum 2 times instead of 4 at the intro riff? Because I hammer-on the second note and strum back on the third note. You can apply that to most riffs in this song if your hand starts to hurt. Anyway, we move on to the chorus which you later on get to repeat in the exact same way, so that's all fine still. The first difficult riff comes in right after the second chorus. It feels a bit illogical at first, but after a while it shouldn't be a problem. Then there's the drop with the slow part and then the next difficult part which is basically, strumming the lower D string like crazy. Doing this consistently is harder than you think since it is quite a fast tempo. After the speed up we get to another typical tool riff with different time signatures. Then the intro riff again, and then we end it off with strumming the D string some more. Hooker With A Penis!

    If someone asks "What do bassist mean when they say they want their tone to be fat/thick/girthy?" - show them this video.

    I wish I could get that tone. Must be the amp and strings. The one thing that's tough about being a beginner bassist is finding all the songs you can't play because your bass is too cheap or not set up to play them. 😁 This was awesome though, thanks for sharing.

      Most of this bass tone came from using lots of treble and new strings. I wasn't actually that happy with this tone as the highs were a bit too much. But thank you!

      @@LeoBassCovers2 I had one question.
      I have more than enough skill to get each individual section right, but if i just can't last through the whole song. And for some reason it's my shoulder that gives out first. Is the shoulder even supposed to be involved in alt picking? Am i doing something wrong, or do i just need more practice with a pick?

      Depends on if you're standing or sitting down. However, the picking motion should come from the wrist and nothing but the wrist.

      So this goes back into the times when the tab software (Go Playalong v3) would sometimes crash during a song. If you look closely at the tab, you'll see that the yellow marker suddenly crashes and leaves a trail of yellow behind. All I can say.. I'm glad this stuff doesn't happen anymore..

    Any tips for playing in 11/8 time?

    • @LeoBassCovers2
      @LeoBassCovers2  2 роки тому +3

      Honestly just don't think about it. Learn the song/riffs to a point where it doesn't matter whether it's in 11/8 or 19/16.
